So what we know is that she used an incredible amount of power from the Lyrium idol (between dashing around like superman and animating a courtyard of statues), did she try and draw too much power and the idol exploded?

Whats most bizarre is afterwards she appears to have taken on a rather alien form and I'm pretty sure I saw a tail?! What the hell happened to her?

She seems to turn into a material a lot like what the idol appeared made of... which was also cited as being "more potent if broken" by Anders during the Varric Act 3 companion quest. I'm guessing it shattering was really really bad, and we won't know how bad until later - also consuming Meredith in the process.

I wonder if Meredith's "possession" will have a rippling effect among the people of Kirkwall and the rest of Thedas. Being possessed, controlling statues, and turning into a statute might color how some people view the templars.

Maybe she isn't really dead?  Maybe she is just sort of burnt.
They can give her magical limbs.  Maybe give her some sort of enchanted helmet... and a long black magic cloak.  That would be cool.
