It did have three years to get there. It's not like it magically appeared the morning after the other dragon was killed. Dragon Age is clearly an apt name for the century though, considering how the dragons have gone from being thought extinct to being killed as vermin. To some extent, I suppose some of the dragonlings can be written off as game play-story separation.

Just because something is rare doesn't mean it can't appear unnoticed, the chances of that happening a lot are low but this is 1 High dragon we're talking about, not 10 High dragons popping up at mines all over Thedas : / I don't think I've actually said this, but I assumed it was hidden somewhere in the mine and the miners disturbed it, just like the dragons in act 1 and the spiders in act 2.

That would make some since but it would've been nice to know officially the reason a high dragon and a ton of dragonlings were there, also thanks for the tips hopefully I can cut down the fight to less than 30 mins on my next playthrough.

At least on Normal, it's fairly easy. Get a fire resist rune for all party members so that you don't have to worry about fireballs in the adds phase. In the adds phase stack everyone up and aoe all the dragons down. Make sure your tank has Stonewall and a mage with Barrier doesn't hurt. I think that's pretty much all you "need" I found Isabela more of a hinderance than a help the time I used her, since she keep backstabbing then getting owned by the tail, so maybe bench her for this fight.

Sadly I had to use her because I'd prefer not to lose attack speed if I loaded a game without her in my party (annoying bugs!), also I played on normal and like I said took me 30 minutes about how much was it for you? Also I used anders and aveline as my last companions and all I gotta say is should I switch anders out for fenris? The recharge on healing and his low amount of health makes him somewhat useless because he dies so fast, although haste is nice.

More con + martyr!!  Oh, and haste is better than nice.

Maker sigh Ander's, dude.  I felt that he was relativly useless, as I really only used his abilities when I was in a 'oh s***' moments.  However, once I replaced a bit of willpower for con and set up his AI to heal for anything and use martyr when available, I couldn't bring myself to leave him out of my group for any boss fight.

Is willpower not good or something? I thought it gave mages more mana for spells?

Well yeah, willpower gives mages more mana, but your sustainables are increasing costs which diminishes the returns for each point of willpower (unless of course you don't use sustainables). You need enough willpower to use spells while maintaining your sustainables.  Anders doesn't need a huge pool of mana because martyr allows him to always have enough mana; not to mention the added benefit of decreasing spell cooldowns. It took me awhile to figure out a decent AI set that wouldn't make Anders pretty much kill himself, but if you keep in mind the awesome synergy of his specialization you can get him to keep your entire party alive, as well as himself, without even doing anything.

Remarkable how many High Dragons there are. So much for the prowess of the Neverrans.

Not that I'm complaining. The ol' girl is gorgeous.

Now I want to try making Steve Erwin in the character generator. Image IPB

There is no comparison. I refer to ancient, majestic creatures and he plays with filthy little reptiles.

The workers complain about a shortage of game to hunt in act 2. Hawk never found any eggs or mature male drakes which are wingless iirc from origins. Hawke never found the high dragon's lair.
My guess was the dragon in act 1 was a daughter striking out on her own.

On a side note, does anyone else wonder why a people who hit 4ft max would build tunnels big enough for a mature dragon to hunt and live in?

The official reason the dragon was there? Lots of caves to nest in, lots of food (the workers,) great place for a dragon. This isn't actually very bewildering.

what you should be asking is how the dragonlings learned to teleport..and why did they only come in waves instead of attacking all-at-once and use their numbers to slaughter you
