And yet I still have zero interest in the Witcher franchise.
The Witcher 2 shows how it's done, Dragon Age II remains sockpuppetry. NSFW.

Okay I've played a lot of video games with love scenes, and being a girl, love-scenes to me aren't about yelling 'score'
You did not need to tell us you were a girl, it was obvious from the moment you used the words "love scene"!
LOL!

Can you imagine how good DA2 would have been if they'd managed to make Kirkwall as good as Vizima? Ah, it breaks my heart...BW could have made such an epic game *sigh*
Indeed. I had such high hopes for DA2. But there was just so many flaws in the game.
This was one of them.

No, I don't hate men, I love 'em. Why, some of my best friends are men p)
I know that I'm limiting myself, severely so. I also know that many men play female PC's and many women play male PC's. I just can't do it, it never feels right. I'm never *in* the game, I'm just playing it. Sorta like DA 2 (for me/end obligatory foot-note).
However, I don't mind reading about male protagonists, and I don't mind watching my friends play them. Weird? Probably.
The only games where I could play as a male PC, and actually enjoy it were PS:T and the Zelda stuff. Seriously. Oh lord, I hope I'm not too weird.

You've got tons of tents in the distance, COLORS, far off mountains, more than 5 people on the screen at once and so on. Visually at least, TW2 seems far and away superior to DA or anything BioWare has come out with. Now, the animations might suck or the gameplay end up rubbish, but TW2 has a damn good look, which is more than I can say for DA.
The colors! The lighting! The sense of scale!

The map!

And really, if BioWare is aiming to bring in a more mainstream audience for DA, the easiest way to do that? Have the game knock your socks off visually- the best damn marketing tool is to show off a stunning screenshot. Hell, back when I never played RPGs, the reason BG2 got my attention were the graphics.

The Witcher was only slightly richer in these areas and imo earned a 15 rating.
I really do agree with the above statements to the fact that games producers need to man-up with regard to facing down the Mary Whitehouse brigade. With each new "this game will ruin your soul" story that pops up in the media, I ask myself why games developers are so timid? The gaming industry is more than established, and easily competes with film on the financial front; why does it refuse to defend its consumers from the nanny-state?
I really enjoyed both games, so this engineered competition between DA and TW goes over my head. Both games had issues and both have evolved. I hope TW's combat system has been improved because (imo) it was the weakest part of that game. Conversely I hope DA 3 becomes significantly grittier and dark.

I don't usually like games which force you to play only male protagonist (same if you are forced to play as female really) either, I think it's important that you could play as both. But I don't let it limit myself, since well you will lose some great games that way.

Dragon Age 2...there really wasn't any sex to speak of. I found the flirting dialogue more cringe-worthy and squeamish than any thigh or breast shot they could have employed. I mean you're already playing a rated MA game, so why splurge on the gore only to pull back on the fun bits. I mean even if you thought Origin's cut scene sex was corny, at least you got to giggle a little bit over it.
I remember watching the fade to black of Kirkwall and saying out loud: "Really?"
Then I shook my head and tried to have Hawke flirt with Sandahl for fun. Nothing happened of course, but the end result was the same for when she took Anders to the sheets.

Please play those games then go to The Witcher then DA:O and DA2.
If you will still think after that DA2 is more of an RPG then Witcher you should get off this topic, because apearantly you dont anything how RPG games should look like and realizing how few RPG elements DA2 has.

This quote is taken from RPGF, have to know that Megamat was this week at the CDPR studios, for an exclusive preview
edit: for those who are interested to read his preview, you can find it here (He has just gave me the right to communicate the link).
Feel free to translate it of course (screens are not exclusive)

Honestly, Bioware's design choices seem to be a cross-purposes in so many ways that it's hard to say what sort of audience they're really going for.

The Origins scenes weren't too bad. I mean what do you want? Full on penetration shots and porno tempo music?
Either show it, or don't show it (via artsy cutaways and fade to blacks). Don't have it be a pantomime in pantaloons.

I'm a dedicated BW fan since the days of KOTOR, but I must tell you that -at least for me- whatever weaknesses the Witcher had, it was overshadowed by the fracking awesomeness of the plot. I didn't truly understand the meaning of shades of gray morality until I played that game...there is just NO FRACKING WAY for you to pick the right choice, they took the whole grey thing to a completely new level that I have NEVER experienced in any other game!
All in all, the game had its weaknesses, but the good parts really make you forget anything bad about it!

I don't see any noteworthy difference in the technical aspects of DA/TW graphics? I think the attention to detail and complexity is higher in TW than DA, but that is a different aspect.
Some of DA 2's level designs are rich (ok, not as rich as TW/2), but some of TW's combat was awful. 6 of 1, half a dozen of another.
We can have both!

It depends. On games when the character is given enough freedom for me to really impact their personality and choices, I only play male as that's a preference. Still have yet to play femshep although I've heard her voice acting is great. Also, romancing as a female is not that appealing to me.
For games where the main character is already decided and I'm kind of along for the ride, I don't mind it at all.
