The point is people calling her a little girl have no basis.
Think about it, if Merril had a dominant voice like Morrigan's would you still call her a little girl?

is not the voice  that make her look a little girl ( for me ) is the fact that she is stubborn in her stupid quest  ..not listening to  her keeper ( she thinks she's smarter than an old keeper? )  like a teenager  would do ...she kills her clan ..she makes  her keeper sacrifice  for her (that being the only way to save her stupid ass) ...the mistakes that she makes through the whole game are unforgivable  ( for me ) ..mistakes of a teenager with magic powers

You're probably right. I'm starting to remember the Sir Pounce-A-Lot comments to Anders, and her later comments to Bethany about having a pet griffin named Feathers.

You've never met completely stubborn adults who always believe they're right no matter how many mistakes they make?

Perhaps I give too much credit to the relative ages of forum posters.Image IPB

Considering that Marethari irresponsibly kept her clan in one location for 7 years and fell prey to a pride demon, yes. Merril is smarter than Marethari. Marethari may not be stupid, but her stubborness and pride did her in.
Her clan? Her clan are a bunch of psychos. Why should she listen to them? And again, she didn't kill them. They attacked. Were Merril and Hawke supposed to take it and die?

Edit: And stop assuming that becoming an abomination was the only way to "save" Merril. Only Marethari's own arrogance lead her to determine that.

I think the big irony with that quest is how Marethari, out of her excessive desire in keeping Merrill from becoming possessed/endangered by a demon, endangers her entire clan (by not leaving Sundermount), and ultimately becomes an abomination herself.

Funny, I think I only know 2 people who can completely resist demons. Hawke and my Grey Warden.

Wow.  Very interesting.  After seeing some of those banters I missed, I have to agree.  She may be the best written character in this game.  ...  Shame about the bandana though.

I like the bandana. It gives her an iconic look... she's the only bandana-ed person in Kirkwall.

You realize those, too, are "sick jokes" except by the developers right?

"If someone offers you clams, just say no. The last time I had clams on the docks, I was sick for a week." She does love her snacks, doesn't she? :?

Too bad they had to add that tacky chin stud to that. I gleefully await the mod that erases it.

Bethany gets credit for completely resisting Demons too. Shame she wasn't as good at resisting the blight...

Bethany avoids demons. But Hawke and the Grey Warden can have a nice chat with the most powerful demons and even trick them. They are basically like the Maker compared to demons.

I actually don't mind the chin stud that much... I just wish it was a bit better colored. It's too close to her flesh tone, so it looks a little like a strange mole depending on the lighting. If they can't find some way to fix that, then yeah I'd be right behind you in line to get the mod to erase it.

Yeah but I mean one that edits the hairstyle model (the stud is part of the hairstyle, that's DA game engine logic for you) so it's the same hairstyle and face without tacky bling.

Actually she's my second least favorite companion in DA2. Not remotely a fan.

I've just met stubborn people of all ages in my life. I don't consider it an 'age' thing.

If you give the book and the thief (Isabella) to the Qunari they leave peacefully. The only reason the Qunari came to Kirkwall was chasing Isabella who stole their book to begin with.

Ugh... I just turned Isabella over to the Qunari on my current playthrough last night, and i still feel dirty about it.

You should feel bad about the Arishok. Because Isabella escapes again and even steals the book again. Which won't really increase the Arishok's respect among his brethren.

I can't help loving Merrill. I loved her from the start. I almost wept when I made my Hawke rival her.
Isabela is a harlot and I want nothing to do with her! Of course I roleplayed it differently, just once.

Either way the only truely worthwhile romance in da:o is the Anora one. Well, I only did the male ones, I'm not big into playing females though I did go gay with Zevran while with Lelianna ;p. Then I dumped them both for Morrigan >.< Thats how little I cared for them.

Merrill made me care.

I adored Isabela and to me Merrill's main use was to act as the clueless comic foil to my sarcasm. I enjoyed her story but wasn't the least bit attracted to her character. That's the point though in having to very different female LI that will be appealing to different people.

Actually, this line of reasoning will help me never feel compelled to do that again. I mostly did it for the "ah, its you again hawke" moment in da3 or wherever with the arishok, but i can't imagine he'd keep his position after 2 blunders with their Tome, so him being dead will be just fine.

And a glowing spirit possession aura gives Anders an iconic look.  ...  Not always a good thing.

"Your female choices are a ****ty pirate and a naive blood mage. Not much of a choice really."

As opposed to a bipolar assassin who talks to dead people, or a mage who sexes them and leaves them while having no issues havings ex with anyone to perform a 'dark ritual'?

Not really any different than the pirate sex kitten with a concious or the child like blood mage?

L0LZ

For the record.. I'd rank them as this...
1. Morrigan (she came first) 2. Isabella ( one of the most complex characters in any BIO game) 3. Lariana (just because she actually looks and acts like an adult even if she is crazy) and 4. Merrill (i'm too old for little children)
