1. More aggresive NPCs who level up with you.

2. Combat that feels moe like Devil May Cry and God of War. I'm talking about using a launcher, jumping into the air, performing an air combo and then using a chi attacfk to blow an enemy backwards.

3. Skill trees for combat styles. Instead of amking attacks strnger or more powerful, give players the ability to have new attacks like sweeps taht hit multiple emies and counter attacks.

4. The PC version needs a save import and the 360 version should allow the original game to have a save import, even if it can only be done on the Xbox orgianls version. PS3 gamers should ahve every major plot choice appear to them as an optional checklist, otherwise it's assumed taht the player played an Open Palm male who romanced SIlk Fox.

5. A Three person party.

6. Make the combat real time. Do away with the action queue for good.

7. Give the player the option to create his own style(s) by mixing and matching movements from default styles.

8. Make the game a little less linear. I'm not talking Oblivion here - that would break the mould - but Kotor or NWN e.g. were much better in that regard.

agreed on 8. More locations would be a good change of pace.

I'm rather fond of number 7, too. In my mod you can learn a whole bunch of styles. That way you can mix and match styles to long combinations. One of the users of my mod took it to a new level. He modded two styles even further. He removed the knockback from one of them and sped up the strong attack of the other. Then he combined these two with another style to create a triple combo and thereby created his own metastyle. His fighting style is as personalized as can be, now. It's truly *his*. How cool is that? That's the way to go.

Something like this was already planned for JE, but the idea was scrapped during development.

Not only extend party size, but (maybe) let you control party members too?

Definitely customizable clothing for your character AT LEAST.

I don't really mind if they keep you only choosing a default face/body. Maybe give them origin stories? Like the first part of the game of Furious Ming is differecnt from Li's

Somewhat of an inventory at least. More than just 'plot items'

Upgarding martial, weapon, and chi styles: more than just increasing speed, damage, duration. Let us see some more done. Like the cover of my original JE shows the girl holding a flaming sword. Till this day I wonder how to get it, if its even there.

Somehow BLEND martial arts, weapons, or chi into a same style. More than just having chi strike while using a martial style. Say: kick, kick, shoot fireball at heart.

I liked how the original JE had had enemies that were resistant to certain types of styles, this made the player explore other types and made the game feel balanced.

Add much more animations, I got tired of seeing the same thing over and over again in the original.

Regardless, making the game play like Devil May Cry: The RPG is soemthing taht the devs should reconsider. The game needs a bit more flair to the combat and NPCs should also be playable but only have two styles available to them.

I had some commentary to throw out on potential narrative structure, which no one seems to have touched on yet. As a martial artist & a lover of martial arts films, two major narrative arcs seems to appear in most stories or screenplays:
1. The character is forced to use his skills because of his personal situation. This is either in protection of people or things he cares about, or in revenge for having those things take away. Generally the most common narrative arc.
2. The viewer follows the story of the main characters individuation, or coming to power. Sometimes this is accomplished through the evolution of the effectiveness of the heroes fighting style.
Which one appeals to you? I favor the latter, as it forges a relationship with the main character through the movement of the narrative. As he changes and evolves, you change with him.

I just watched Ip Man. It's what brought me to see if any news on and interest in JE2 could be found. Trying to make button mashing look like artfully choreographed fight sequences would take a bit of genius on the devs' part.

As for truly bone-crunching combat, has anyone played Vindictus (Mabinogi Heroes)? That RPG makes real time combat feel like you opened a can of whoop-ass. You can even play it with friends and it has a storyline. If Bioware were to turn their attention to Jade Empire with combat and multiplayer aspects of that game, I think I'd just about sail around the world twice, then just keel over from the excitement. Then again, I'd do the same for a single player version as well.

Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning is going for something more akin to the fighting game style of combat and will hopefully carry that over into the subsequent MMOPRG based on the same IP.

I guess I'll just add the recommendation that the game be longer. The first was bloody short. Also, companions that are more than decoration as far as combat is concerned would be nice.

No need for a voiced protagonist, but a more aesthetically customizable character would be nice.  A face morphing system a la mass effect and Dragon age combined with some variable clothing.  (Not in favor of an armor system!  Aesthetic clothing only!)

Things Jade Empire 2 needs:-
1) to be sufficiently distanced from the end of Jade Empire as to not contradict or compromise the player's chosen ending
2) TO BE MADE!

Now that I think about it, Jade Empire's combat was pretty weak. If they could at least make it look faster and smoother like DA2's rogue combat would be nice.

I would say tune up the combat so it's easy to switch styles and execute. Perhaps put in counter-moves. I don't think it should be all button mash live action though. Of course we need another great story and characters. Hopefully keep the whole romance thing to a minimum if at all (like the original JE and as oppose to the Harlequin novel that apparently everyone wants Mass Effect to be).

I also don't think it needs to be free roam/sandbox game as that tends to disperse focus off the main storyline. Side-quest and a little bit of exploring is cool though. The choice of a middle path and to be able to choose a direction/action based on the situation as the player sees fit (as oppose to just "good" and "evil" choices that just slapped onto every scenario).

Finally we need more (at least some) Asian voice actors.

Make Closed Fist actually be Closed Fist and not Way of the Douchebag.
Combat in the style of Dynaste Warriors/Sengoku BASARA (personal preference).
Party combo attacks.

Get more open palm points for trying to stay in one place, and understanding one's place in the world through dialogue and options, and closed fist options for dialogue options that symbolize strength and progressing in the world despite other people's positions. Not the whole thug vs likeable guy. Actual honor and harmony verse discord and social progression at any cost.

Know what JE2 needs most of all?

A developer intending to develop it... nor that you can't dream about of course.

I too agree it’s not easy to develop course. But if a developer intending then it is some thing we all appreciate. Great thoughts all around.
