So, I can understand in the MMO community the need to pick a role and optimize it.  But, I'd like to remind everyone this is a single player game, and you should do what's fun over what's optimal.  Now, I know for some people, being optimal IS fun, and all of us, to a degree, strive to create effective characters.  I mean, no one is going to put one or two talent points in every tree and try not to use them.  But remember, in a single player game, it doesn't matter if other people do it faster or better, as long as you're having fun.  And with that...

Optimizing is not a science, and there are not factual universal "best specs."  The first reason for this is that people have different definitions for what is optimal in every scenario.  Some people think an optimal rogue is the highest possible damage, in which case you probably want to duel blade.  Some people think it's their ability to cc, in which case sabotage is far more optimal.  Some people think it's a survivable ranged character.  Then an archer with points in subtlety and scoundrel is clearly better.  Some people think a highly survivable melee rogue is what you need for an optimal non-tank dps focused group, in which case, duelist is clearly the best specialization, whereas assassin is clearly better for optimzing damage.  The same goes for warriors.  If you want damage, sword and shield isn't going to do it, if you want tanking, 2 hand isn't your best choice.  If you want crazy aoe a spirit healer with points in spirit, arcane, and protection is a horrible choice.  If you want an adept healer, you won't find it in the elemental or primal lines.  The point is, not only do you not have to optimize, objectively, you can't.

My main, final point to this wall of text is this.  I see a lot of people on these boards not having fun because they're trying to find the absolute best way to play, and there isn't one.  It depends on you, the player.  You might try someone else's optimal party and spec and fail miserably, but then kick ass with combinations they'd scoff at.  It's single player, no one is going to kick you out for not having the highest possible dps, healing potential, or tanking ability.  Just, have fun, and experiment, and most importantly do what's most enjoyable for you!

Agreed. And the experimenting with different character builds adds to replay value.
