I just downloaded the free giveaway of Mass Effect 2( if you own Dragon Age 2) and when I start the game up I get the normal sounds for the intro screens but no picture, just a black screen. After the intro movies I can see and move around the mouse and hear the scroll over sounds for the buttons, but still no picture. My computer isn't great but it can still run games. There are also no error messages. Is there something I can do to fix this?

Sorry, but on one can even take any guess, since you have chosen to withhold any and all useful information.

Since my first bet is that this is indeed related to hardware (or drivers), there's not really any advice to give without specs. See the thread near the top titled "Read First."

Right, you have a five year old machine that wasn't adequate to play games on when brand new, and now, it doesn't even have the correct pixel shaders for current games.

Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater(**); ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce G.210, 310, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9100, 9200, and 9300; ATI Radeon X1300, X1550, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4350, and (probably) HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

so a black screen means that the PC is not suitable for ME 2?

This is not true at all. Nothing to do with the specs. I have an Alienware Aurora with an i5 2'8 G, 3 RAM, Win7 64bit, AMD HD 6800 and I have this same exact problem with ME 1. I played a good amount of hours with high specs but at some random point in the game I try to load a Save and... black screen, cursor, can access inventory, can access Map (all black), and nothing.

I guess he just wanted to tell us about his overpriced Alienware nonsense.

And a note to that poster: You don't have the exact same problem that would mean you are running the exact same system specs and everything. You are not. You have a completely unrelated problem.
