I have characters who have a variety of ranged weapon proficiencies in my party.  What ranged weapons are the best choices?  I have a mostly standard game itemwise but have installed the rogue rebalancing mod, which lets you upgrade the frost dart to a +3 weapon doing 1d3+3 +1d3 frost damage per hit with a chance to slow for 1 round.  I'm considering using this over the tuigan bow for Imoen but it seems close in terms of value.

Thanks!

For a non-fighter with a poor-ish THACO, it probably won't matter much. In general the best ranged weapons are either the Sling of Seeking or one of the throwing melee weapons (Axes or Dwarven Throwing Hammer) in the hands of a fighter (or someone with exceptional or better strength) since those weapons all add strength damage. Xbows are also good too since there's a good one you can just purchase on top of Watcher's Keep and during chapter 4-5, you'll pick up a ton of bolts of stunning/paralyzation from the Fish City and the Kua Toa.

Melf's Minute Meteors are the best missile weapons for Imoen for the most part. The fire damage penetrates stoneskins and they have high APR and thac0 bonuses.

Otherwise, go with anything that does elemental damage. In bg2, the main point of missile weapons is not the raw damage they do, but their ability to disrupt spellcasting and they need to break through stoneskins, etc to do that.

The Azureedge axe bought in the coronet is really nice against undead, and pretty good in general. You need to be good aligned to use it, so Korgan's unfortunately out. Even without proficiency I give it to a fighter against level draining undead.

Azuredge doesn't protect against level drain unless you have the Item Upgrade mod and then you can use the Illithium. Or did you just mean to give it to them to destroy undead? Another good option.

gesen bow is probably the best shortbow i think.

Unlimited electric ammo and good stats.
Tho the ammo doesnt hit creatures that require magic weapins to hit i think - and idk if electric effect stacks with arrows.

Gesen shots are really slow compared to any other, though. Plus you can't get it until chapter 6, which is kind of a long time.

I've always been a fan of the Tuigan bow. +1 attack per round is hard to beat.

Yes, you can equip arrows and get whatever the arrow bonus is plus the electric damage on top of that.

Sweet! Good options all. It sounds like I have a decent handle on the concepts behind it all so I will make some decisions shortly.

I'd go for the frost dart.

Yoshimo is using the regular, non-upgraded version in my game and I find it very useful for disrupting enemy spellcasters. Its cold damage goes straight through stoneskin which is especially useful against mage and druid enemies. Also, since it's a dart, you can still wear a buckler on your off hand which is not possible with bows/xbows.

The upgraded version looks pretty sweet, but as far as I can tell from the readme, you can't get it until after Spellhold.
