Not sure if anyone made a thread for it, but I just started watching Smudboy's Arrival Review and I'm curious to see people's thoughts.

It's definitely a lot more lighthearted than his previous reviews. Still sounds like he liked it better than the main game, though not as much as LOTSB
So far, I think that's my problem with it. I enjoyed his Mass Effect 2 and LOTSB reviews, but aside from a few accurate remarks (Kenson's betrayal, Shepard's imprisonment) it feels like Smud is spending more time trying to be witty than focus on accurate criticisms. Not as good as his previous reviews, imo.

Yeah, it was hard. I feel like I need a hot shower now.

Eh, maybe after all those response video he made he got tired and wanted to kick back a bit. Can't say I'd blame him if that was the case.

At that point, I'd advise him to wait or simply not make the video. I like Smud's snarkiness, but not when it's all there is fueling the work. It works better in conjunction with him pointing significant plot issues, not when he's trying to invent reasons for why Shepard wouldn't visit 'the Project", etc.
I do have to give him points though for mentioning Watchmen.

As good an argument as any as to why we talk about little nitpicks. You can get away with quite a few, but you want to limit them, because if your game is so utterly full of them, people won't be able to ignore them anymore.

Hey... He's funnier! Still completely nitpicking a video game, but he's funnier. And he said I was worthless... By the way, the whole super nova relay thing... we have no idea how far away the relay was from the super nova. It could have just been on the outskirts of the blast radius. Very different from having a small planet slammed into it!!
You know, I take it back... jokes are great, but only when they are related to a point. This feels like he is just trying way too hard to be funny. It just get worse and worse..... I finally get the feeling that he is just trying to show that he can be funnier than me.... Not that that is hard, but....

Stop obsessing over him. You'd do a better job defending ME2 if you focused your videos on explaining why the game is good and why it works and not ever mentioning Smudboy at all. If you did it that way people would draw their own conclusions and the truth in your vision would be clear for all to see.

This, by far. Don't pick at everything he says in his videos, you could do a much better job if you instead just focused on defending what people say are plot holes, and prove they are not.

It should be recognized though, if people saw something as a plothole, "it really isn't, let me explain!" is no excuse for a writer. Their failure of perception is a failure on the writer's part to communicate effectively. This is a basic tenet of writing.
Now, with someone like Smudboy who is deliberately going through something looking for problems, this doesn't apply.

I figure it's my duty. Disney won't improve unless I repeatedly insult them.

I just watched the movie Tangled last night on my new 3D TV. It was pretty cool. But then I started realizing how many plotholes were in it. And there were several tropes. The Disney writers are awful and now I realize the movie stinks. I've decided to write several firmly worded letters to Disney condeming them for being an awful company and demanding that they fire all their writers. Then I'm going to go troll some Disney boards and call all the fans idiots.
I figure it's my duty. Disney won't improve unless I repeatedly insult them.
When can we expect your 10-part youtube series detailing all of Tangled's flaws in a monotone voice?

OK, but what if it's because those people who failed to perceive just aren't very bright?

Yes. If "never leave anything up to the imagination" becomes the new default rule for all media, I guess I'm going to have to go back to reading Shakespeare. Ugh.
If all plot points must be so transparent that the dumbest person who could ever watch your movie will instantly understand what is going on, it's very difficult to be subtle. That's how you get Twilight.
