So after days of back & forth, I manage to edit one of my lategame saves (I had Isabela bug on one playthrough, Sebastian on another, and started getting save corruption trying to mod out the issue so the game was playable) and I get thos:

'we all left Hawkes side...except for Isabela, of course.'

....I romanced Merril, and Isabela vanished for good in Act 2. That pretty much ruined my ending.
Also, what the hell was up with the poor, fuzzy end cutscene quality? Most of the ingame scenes were better than that.
 I enjoyed a lot about DA2, but that'sthe first time I've finished an Bioware game & been disappointed by the ending, rather than disappointed it was over.

Also, wasn't there supposed to be a credits song they made a big deal out of Florence & The Machine doing? I got 5 minutes of vaguely rumbly thunder noises.

Not sure what you're talking about in regards to "fuzzy end cutscene". Isabela leaves for good in Act 2 if you do not meet certain requirements. Not sure what all you were editing enough to corrupt your saves. Was this all just in your first play through?

The stated love interest is a known bug. Varric usually says whoever you initiated a romance with first, not whoever you ended up completing it with. Occasionally, Varric will even dazzle people by saying multiple names at the same time. It's slated to be fixed in the big patch Coming Soon™. The music not playing is also a known issue and should be fixed in the same patch.

The video quality of the ending cutscene seemed visibly poor in my opinion. I'm aware of the circumstances that lead to Isabela leaving, my point is she left for good in this playthrough, but Varric's epilogue said she stayed by my side while everyone else left.
As for what I was editing - there are threads on the infamous Sebastian/Isabela friendship attribute bugs that gradually render the game unplayable. As this is not yet patched, I was editing saves to get around it, but ran into corruption isses. Finally got my save working & playable, completed the game, and it......didn't really seem worth the effort.

EDIT: Yes, this was my first playthrough, though it sat idle for a while in Act 3 after I ran into bugs. Took a 2nd playthrough to the end of Act 2 before getting crippled by bugs also, and have a 3rd on Act 1 just b/c I wanted my girlfriend to see the game.

This happens if you started romancing Isabella up to the point where you sleep with her, then romanced Merrill. Varric says both lines at the same time so you get something like "exceptcept for Merrisabella". Not pretty. Hopefully fixed in the upcoming patch (but too late of course...)

Dunno, most of the pre-rendered cutscenes seem kinda low-res but this one is especially bad. I'm not even sure why they're pre-rendering cutscenes. Maybe because this one featured a group of soldiers ? Doesn't seem like there were many morethan what you could get during regular gameplay so...

I get the feeling I'd have enjoyed this game a lot more if I hadn't preordered. Shoulda waited till it was out and patched and got it without having to spoiler half the damn game due to bugs.

I suppose it wasn't so much an ending as a big sequel teaser anyway

I pre-ordered. But I finished it so long ago I already got over it. The thing that took me the longest to get over was knowing no matter what you can't save the mother. The rest? All just fine at this point.
