Alright, generally speaking my art style is much more along the lines of beautiful feminine boys with beautiful boys who aren't necessarily feminine, but are generally hairless except for the hair on their heads.

With that said, there is usually never a case where I need to make...stubble. As you all know, Anders is a man with stubble. I have looked up several tutorials on creating the stubble effect in photoshop, but all of them look awful or riddiculously silly on this picture. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

(Or maybe its just me, and it just doesn't look right because its something I am not used to.)

Edit: Obviously, this image is a work in progress and far from done. Posted Image

Start with dotting then give some short and thin strokes irregularly.

Umm, if you have a tablet without all too faulty pen pressure, you could try turning pen pressure on in transfer(CS5) or other dynamics (previous versions), spacing in the main window (brush tip shape) to 1% and if you want to, shape dynamics off or on (depending on what you want)

basically you could then try making thin, short strokes so that you get an effect like this...

Additionally, try adding a layer of darker skin colour under the place where the stubble is, or low opactiy black/ a shade of grey perhaps?

Hope this helps!

I am not sure stubble can easily be applied to anime style art. The style likes to either make a bold feature of a characteristic or leave it out. From the rare occasion I see light facial hair portrayed in this style it is either through a change in skin tone representing stubble or a limited line more indicating shape of hair rather than detailing it. let me find examples.

edit* something like this
