I have a question, I'm a complete noob. I'm debating wether or not to get DA2 for my mac, I'm currently on console. The mods that you see on dragon age nexus, are they compatible and I'm I able to use these tools that you've listed on my mac? I really don't want to install windows on my computer:/

Just to further clarify a response to this, as I also play on a Mac.

As mentioned previously, the Mac version functions identically the PC version, and 99% of existing mods can be applied. To create mods, you'll need a Windows install (I use Parallels loaded up with XP and run it right alongside DA 2) to run the programs linked in the OP such as pyGFF and the toolset.

A second issue is that the toolset is technically only available to people who have a registered version of DA:O for PC. Considering there's a Mac version, this is a little lame, whether or not the toolset is Windows only. I may contact BioWare support and see if I can get a toolset key/unlock given that I own the Mac copy.

Is there any way in which to petition BioWare to create or modify the toolset so mods can be created properly??

I'm disappointed that this has not been done as the modding community is hamstrung in the way in which it can create the amazing mods that they did for DAO.

Hopefully this will be rectified in the not too distant future

Last I knew, it was in the pipeline for consideration; if it is going to happen, I don't foresee it being available until at least October, if DAO's original plan for the toolset is any indication.

People who got Portal 2 were complaining about Valve doing the same thing by not having the kit available to them on release. Valve announced today theirs is going into beta testing for release. Hopefully we get something similar from BioWare. Really enjoy DA2, but it is just missing so much to it that allowing modders to expand the content, or "fix" certain things is long overdue.

Is there any method / 3rd-party utility for importing Dragon Age 2 scripts into the DAO toolset for editing?

tmp7704's Lightwave import/export plugin should be added to the OP.

I am going to say this I am so, so, sooooo, jealous of you people with this modding thing . I seen some of its work on characters and they look sooooo, faboulous. Ps3, and xbox 360 don't have anything of this remarkable nature. My female hawk look like Hallie Berry when she played storm you dont know how bad I want to put my hawk character and rest of Hawk companions on this modding tool set.Well thats all I have to say about that goodbye.

So, I am having severe problems with .erf files. I can't open them (want to modify some mods).

Erfpack 2.1 gets me a malware warning and automatically deleted from AntiVir and the other tool doesn't seem to work too.

Any solution at hands?

just out of curiosity didnt bioware stick to pretty much the same file structure for DA 2 as they did with NWN? only reason i'm asking is because i see a lot of familiar tools (or updated versions) that i used to use a lot back when i was modding and hosting a Nordock module for nwn.

I know this thread is quite old, but it still has great information. However, I do think there needs to be some tutorial information on using some of these programs.

At any rate, another really useful tool is XnView. It is an image viewer/converter that can view several dozen file types. I normally use this program for working with World of Warcraft addons (and their .blp file type).

For Dragon Age, I was primarily interested in extracting, viewing, and using the UI art files, rather than making full blown mods.

I used pyGFF to extract all of the content in gui.erf and guiexport.erf for both games (click on editor.exe, choose Export All from the File menu, select your .erf file and Open).

Once you export everything, you will see a bunch of new file types, including the image file .dds (DirectDraw Surface), which you can open and convert into something more manageable to play with, like .png, using XnView. You should also conceivably be able to convert your modded .png back into .dds and repack them into an .erf using ERFpack.

Have fun.

Looking at the UI files for DAO especially makes me give huge kudos to the UI design team. They designed a ton of little glyphs and components. It's a shame they went in another direction for DA2.

Hello,

I've played DA2 to the end time on PC, and I would like to learn how to edit saved game file to change attributes.  I see some instructions in the DR wiki (http://dragonage.wik...ve_game_editing)  but I did not understand what the instructions meant by "Open the saved file in a toolset".  Are they referring to a GFF editor when they say toolset?

I did download gff4editor-1.0.7z , but was unable to open the file using using note pad.  What is the proper app to open a GFF editor?

Cheers,

If you go to the bottom of that article. It mentions that DA2 saves aretn' supported with the Origins toolset and that you need the save editor. So solved your own problem there, guy.

You don't do anything just click on it. it should open by itself.
you don't need any other program...

Aaaaactually. You can...

Well, i'm not really sure if it counts as modding, per say. but if you go to
this thread
http://social.biowar...7/index/6749366

It'll tell you how to edit your DA2 saves for the Xbox.
As far as adding modded weapons or armor...i'm going to say no. No, you cannot do that.

I wouldn't really class editing saves as modding, personally. But yeah, if that's what you want to do, you can do it.
