Why do you all keep bashing that poor Deep Roads Dragon? :( He's not even a sub-boss, dammit! Well, probably for the same reason I favor Orsino: he's great as a punching bag/sandbox hybrid :)

As a side note: your video won't play. YouTube seems to think it's private.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!

THE GAUNTLET HAS BEEN THROWN, SIR.

...

I must see this.

P.S - I'd show my skills and attributes, but all you'd actually see is a bunch of fuzzy lines and squiggles; my capture device is a P.O.S.

Fixed.  I like seeing what the fastest time we can get on him is.  At first didn't think we'd be able to reach a minute, now I'm thinking 40 seconds may be a possibility.  It's also payback for him taking me 20 minutes of running around kiting him with anders the first time I fought him.

Lol.  I was going to explicitly say I'd thrown the Gauntlet at you to the death with cutting barbs, but I figured you'd take up the challenge anyways.  I'm pretty sure you can shave that down to 45 seconds, but I doubt you can do it with old square jaw tanking.

Orsino is the only one with high enough HP to be *your* punching bag. Well, maybe ARW has it too, but he rolls around too much. Orsino, however, just meekly waddles about spewing his guts.

Fenris is like a Reaver/Templar but with higher crit rates and gets both his specializations at Level 7. He's a beast early game, but late game Warrior Hawke catches up and surpasses him (or does he really?).

Fenris is also the STAGGER king. It's strange to see that unused. :-S

Yes, his personal tree is very good. Higher crit damage, you mean. Especially if he's a rival.

Yes. Hawke has significantly higher attributes, is much more customizable, and T+R > TF as far as sheer talent power is considered (for example, Fenris has no access to Sacrificial Frenzy, and his version of Holy Smite is weaker in damage terms, though its elemental force multiplier comes handy sometimes). Still, Fenris probably has the best companion tree -- not a single bad talent in sight.

Fenris is also the STAGGER king. It's strange to see that unused. :-S

Actually, I was thinking about making Fenris (with a staff) a ranged stagger machine on my party playthrough.

Absolutely.  Mother always favored her anyways.

Varric is required.
Hawke is a ranged rogue for Mark of Death, Assassinate and constant damage.
Fenris is the Tank and AOE.
That only leaves a single spot for a mage.
Bethany is the only mage with both Entropy tree for upgraded Hex of Torment and Creation tree for upgraded Haste.
After grabbing both of those skills she only has three points left over and that's not enough to take advantage of a stagger.

In my testing: skills which increase the ENTIRE parties damage have a bigger effect than just going for extra STAGGER damage for a single person.

When using Fenris at higher levels, then I will take advantage of Staggers, and probably replace Varric with Merril so there are two mages to capitalize on Staggers.

Can you actually do that?

Why not? Allure's Crook (with Primeval Lyrium, whenever possible) + upgraded Cleave will work nicely with all +attack animation trinkets, Battle Tempo and party Haste.

Lawl. Cold vs a Dragon. No way other weaponry is going to beat that. Good job.

Damn.  That is sick.  I clock that at 38 seconds from first shot to dragon dead.  Did you do this, if so when?  The gear isn't even fully optimized.  Bethany build and Rogue Hawke is almost same as mine, but Anders is putting Fenris to shame.  He doesn't have to back up in melee combat and the team is taking down the adds quickly.  I always thought I would prefer the team to focus on the boss, but I stand corrected.

Yeesh.  This is just sick.  I'm on my first playthrough with what is likelya  very gimped party (trying not to min/max but rather choose what's fun) and that fight took me 15 minutes on nightmare.  Hawke is a TH warrior and I had Bethany specced fire (LOL!) and hex and also had Isabella dual wield with me.  Needless to say, there was a lot of kiting... yawn.

Are there any rules, besides, obviously, legit stats? Nightmare, no CCCs? That's it?

@in1- ccc's are allowed, I just happened not to use any in my 47 sec build. Level 13 max, everything else should be legit.

Allure's Crook Tevinter Fugitive. That will be the end of the Imperium.

RP-wise, though, I think Fenris needs to be drugged or mind-wiped before he'd take up a Mage's staff as a weapon...

Seeing as you did brittle the dragon, having a warrior hawk mighty blow, or heaven forbid assassinate with a rogue would decimate the dragon.

Pretty funny vids and puts my runs to shame. I tend to run a standard "can fight everything but not grand" group setup - warrior, rogue, damage mage, healer.

I think I will have to try running pure damage next time, as if my 2 handed swordsman wasn't funny enough to play through.

I did it this afternoon. I had a save with Archer Hawke near the end of Act 1. Picked up a few Maker's Sighs, a potion of Arcane Technique and a random cold staff for Bethany, and off I went. The fight itself took me almost an hour of party tactic tweaking to get right. The companion builds and party composition is NOT something I'd recommend for regular Nightmare playthroughs.(waaaaay too much knockback)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
I didn't use an Archer's Lance build with Varric because I thought it wouldn't count. :(

Wow, Archer Hawke really does a fantastic job of taking care of those annoying little dragons that may attempt to mob Anders.

It's a complete role-reversal: NPC Mage as boss-killer with Rogue Hawke as mob controller. Refreshing.

Also: Pure Magic on all Mages! And you have no mana problems at all. It seems all classes should do mostly auto-attacks after all.

very nice. Anders as he was intended, not some stand-by buff bot. You really are the best Elementalist posting here.

Updated to add all speed run videos for this poor dragon and to document rules.
