P.S - Does anyone know what, exactly, triggers the Maker's Sigh extra ability point glitch? I NEVER got it on my warrior or Rogue, but I can't seem to respec without getting it as a Mage. I've tried everything to avoid it, followed every instruction I could find, but I just can't figure it out.

After, naturally, remember to retake all your stashed potions/poisons (I always forget, dumb me).
NOTE: If you already saved the game with the bug happening then you are out of luck either here. You will always receive those "bonus" points, no matter what you do. To not receive anymore, however, use the trick above.

Did you remove ALL other usable items (i.e. potions, nades) from your inventory BESIDES Maker's Sigh x1? Apparently that's part of the cause. I've been able to avoid the bug on my Mage Hawke by making sure I only have that 1x Maker's Sigh when I do it.
That being said, kudos to all of you that do these speed runs. I have to pause; I can't just let things play out via tactics without freaking out. I'm probably kind of OCD with regards to DAO/A/2, come to think of it.
edit: I waited, like, 20 minutes to post, browsed some other internets and got ninja'd for it.

Haha. You've got some ground to make up. Ruminations 38 seconds is less than half of your 79 second "minute".
Edit: Also, you're not going to be able to beat my music. That's half the battle right there.

If you are stuck with some extra makers sigh points, just put them into some wasted skills that you don't use and show tactics for that char.

I was gonna just do that, but it was giving me FOUR more points than I was supposed to have, and that didn't sit well with me.
And what sounds better: 7 Minute Abs, or 7 Minute and 19 Second Abs?
I'm determined to do this as Hawke. I don't know why, but I WILL do it. Fenris and Anders (ESPECIALLY ****ing feather coat, constantly in the way, Chantry nuking, 'someone get me a poultice, quick' Anders) do NOT deserve the title!

Basically, what is needed is archer Hawke, Varric, Bethany and Merrill (preferably, with cold staves). Talents: fully upgraded Archer's Lance [both archers], fully upgraded Mark of Death [Hawke], Hex of Torment [both mages], Winter's Grasp + Elemental Mastery [both mages]. Under these conditions, Varric will deal ~5.5k per Lance, Hawke will deal ~7.5k (granted, you'll need a bit of luck freezing that dragon twice in succession). Dragon's hp bar will be down to 1/2 in a matter of seconds. Then... Well, either let your mages finish the work with cold staves or wait for Archer's Lance cooldown (take into account it's 30s, so if you want to beat that 38s record, it's not such a great idea). An important point: Assassinate without BRITTLE synergy (Annihilate, which you can get only at 14) is not worth it in this scenario.
Sadly, I cannot participate, as I have only one save with rogue Hawke in the Deep Roads, and it is solo. Adding companions via console results in all sorts of weird bugs (e. g., companions having access to talents they should not; companions capable of wearing regular armor; companions with minus stats, etc.). I can probably fix it all manually via gff4 or just start a new playthrough, but both options are quite time-consuming, and I'm not that dedicated to the issue, really

A tiny tip for everyone involved: level 12 is the optimum here. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO IT AT LEVEL 13. The scaling system works in such a way that our dragon will have ~26k hp at level 11-12, but will jump to ~31k hp at level 13. Needless to say, your damage-dealing capabilities will fail to keep up.

Don't think that's going to work. Can't get fully upgraded Mark of Death until level 13, and you don't have enough skill points till level 13 for either of the mages to get Death Hex and a fully upgraded elemental tree, even with the arcane book. MAYBE if the dragon goes brittle 4 times in a row it could work, but that's extremely unlikely.

It's not theoretical. Do I think I just pulled those numbers out of thin air to impress AreleX, seriously?
I have done it at 13 on my third try (2 Lances, Assassinate, Winter's Grasps and auto-attacks), but all the companions were screwed up in one way or another, so... doesn't count, formally. Still, a good indication that it will work, if someone is patient and persistent enough to set it up properly. Just decide for yourself what is better: level 13 mages vs a 31k hp dragon or level 12 mages vs a 26k hp one.

I think you did!
But then again, I am an incredibly egomanaiacal person, so take it as you will.
I got to the expedition and my game froze going into the Deep Roads (as it has 3 times before, even though it's installed on my HD), so I'm going to nap. Will rock faces in a few hours.

Level 13 with Death Hex, Mark of Doom, and Haste(even with the bug) vs. a 31k hp dragon is better than a level 12 with double Elemental Mastery vs. a 26k hp dragon. You will deal well over 5k damage just from the combination of Death Hex and Haste alone.
Theories are great if you factor in everything. The biggest problem arises when a theory seems to work. Other factors can cloud a theory that seems to work and you end up with a faulty conclusion.
Anyways, knowing now that CCC is allowed, I redid the fight:

Ah, well... Mage-dominated party setups are most definitely not my forte, so I won't even reply with a sardonic comment this bunch of pretentious banalities really deserves
By the way, I'm trying to study mage playstyle/mechanics now, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. I had a traumatic experience with idiotically overpowered DAO+DAA mages (basically, they made an already easy game almost unplayable for me), so I was reluctant to touch those bastards in DA2.

Main post updated with 31 second run. It's hard to argue with 31 seconds. I'm standing firm that level 13 is key along with a Haste/Hex Bethany.
Is it just me, or does the last 25% of the Dragons health always seem to take disproportionately long? You had him down to 25% in the first 15 seconds or so. I only saw one CCC, but it was a brutal 7k Archers Lance which accounts largely for the saved time.

Yep, a single mage with Haste/Hex contributes more "damage" to the fight than any single damage skill alone.
That last 25% took forever because Haste/Hex/Mark of Death fell off
