Just curious what people will say here.

My personal opinions

Best:
Baldur's Gate series
Planescape: Torment
Fallout I/II
Ultima VII Part 1: The Black Gate
Ultima VII Part 2: Serpent's Isle

Most disappointing:

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor
Ultima IX
The Temple of Elemental Evil
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
Every damn Might and Magic game ever (my eyes are burned with identical red, blue, and green monsters for all eternity!)

Best:

Mass Effect

Elder Scrolls III GOTY Edition

KOTOR

Fallout 3

Are these not considered RPGs?

Bioshock??

Assassins's Creed??

Worst:

I don't feel qualified to answer this because I never finished a game I didn't like, and, if I didn't finish it, who am I to judge the entirety of it's content that I never experienced?

Best:

BG2

Worst:

ToEE/PoR:RoMD (both of which I have installed on my system at the moment, BTW, which goes to show that I can either tolerate or find something good about just about anything)

Most disappointing (because this is a function of my own expectations more than it is an indictment against the actual game):

NWN1

Best:

Planescape: Torment.

Hands down. Not even putting any other games next to it, because it belongs in a class of its own.

Most Disappointing:

Ultima IX, Might and Magic VIII, and Morrowind.

Those are the only three CRPGs that I can remember going out and buying and then uninstalling before I'd even played them halfway through because they were so horrible.

Compared to BG2 and KotOR, NWN1 and ME were disappointing.

Did I enjoy them, and overall were they good games? Yes, definitely. But when compared to other games from Bioware they were disappointing. Just my opinion though.

The best for me would be... The Witcher, Mass Effect, Morrowind and FFVII - I can't deny I absolutely loved FFVII!

Most disappointing... every FF after VIII. Gothic3.

NWN1 is a bit of a mixed egg isn't it? It's somehow both the most disappointing game and the best game Bioware ever made.

Well, so far.

Well, so far.

The single player campaign could be the reason why. But you cannot deny that the multiplayer and toolset are what made the game great. I would put it on my best list. Along with
Xenogears
Legend of Dragoon
FF7&8
Shadow Hearts
Vampire TM: Bloodlines
KOTOR
Morrowind
Mass Effect
Lost Odyssey (Except the costumes some were flat out odd)
Fallout 3
...thats all i can think of

Diappointing gams
Oblivion (Bland, with ugly armor and weapons. Who ever thought it would be fun to repair broken weapons and armor should be fired.)
Dark Messiah of Might and magic
Final Fantasy 11&12
...Thats all i can think of at the top of my head.

bad:
icewind dale dissapointed, but can be due to the look a like feeling of baldurs gate..

Best :

1. Mass Effect (PC)
2. KOTOR (PC)
3. Fallout
4. Neverwinter Nights - Hordes of the Underdark

Great childhood memories:

Shining Force I and II (the best SRPGs I've ever played, not that I've played many)
Might and Magic II
Fallout 1 and 2
Ravenloft 2: Stone Prophet
Phantasy Star IV

Could have been better:

Fallout 3 - At least the ending of the original no-patched version (its Oblivion /w guns although very well done)
Oblivion - Sandbox gameplay that feels, well like a sandbox/very wooden
Final Fantasy IV - Grinding not so much, great story / interesting game
Tales of Vesperia - Not a fan of wacky Japanese RPGs

Some of the old SSI games are laughable/brutally hard - remember the game wheel? Pool of Radiance. Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday gets an honorable mention for decent gameplay in a space setting.

And Shadowrun for Megadrive/Genesis - Not bad/not great either.

Boeresmurf, can you clarify why Oblivion/Morrowind isn't an RPG? I suppose character generation is a bit non-points based, but you do create a character/role and levels, etc.

Also, to all the haters of Jade Empire, play it on Xbox. Very beautiful, stylistic Action RPG - great concept. Is it the poor gameplay?

My absolute favourite is The Elders Scrolls 3: Morrowind.

Worst? I didn't much like Fallout 2, way too clunky and slow.

I see a lot of disappointment in Mass Effect, could someone explain why they were dissapointed? I personally adored the game. That said...

Best:

Mass Effect

Final Fantasy 7 and 10

Persona 3 and 4

Paper Mario (The original, the sequels kinda blew)

Golden Sun (both)

Disappointing (but still fun =])

Fallout 3 - although much better after the addition of mods, the combat felt a little dry after a while. Hit "V" then click the head 5 times. I also found the game a little bit stressful at times, and not very satisfying overall. Although the amount of content is amazing and I love swapping the "Have you found this?" storied with my friends

Bioshock - I felt there was far too much random encounter in this game. You couldn't walk for 2 minutes without fighting a splicer. Isn't rapture falling apart? Why are there so many random jerks out to kill you and where are they coming from? Also, vita-chambers kind of took away the fear of death and the last boss was a piece of cake.

Final Fantasy 12 - Although fun (I really liked the new combat style) the story line was a little bit political for my taste, and I felt that overall it just lacked that special something that other FF games had. How cool was it in FF10 when you busted up Yuna's wedding? Definitely one of my favorite cut scenes ever. Nothing similar to that seemed to happen in FF12.

Most disappointing:
(1 being most heart breaking, earth shattering, the end of life, hope, happiness itself & disappointing games ever)

~edit, I can't live without squeezing 4th edtion in there somewhere, perhaps god its hard to say where i would put 4th edtion, if it could share a spot how about 2nd.

1. Darkfall Online
(The long awaited holy grail no more mindless themeparks, those that were still in the womb and missed the ultima online boat, come quick board the ship of happiness and dreams!!!!!........betrayed and let down hard)

2. The Whole Suikoden Series after 1 & 2
(1 & 2 were beautiful, works of art. Many man tears where shed)

3. Warhammer Online,
I read a lot of the fantasy novels and this pvp rvr nonsense seemed like fun. I remember watching all the pod casts getting amped up, lol what a joke a sad let down. I don't know if i was blinded by my own fanboish desires cause i read the books and liked the setting, I should have known better, there is no excuses for me.

4. Fallout 3
(loss of GURPS pnp mechanics for.....mindless action with low quality mechanics yay!, oblivion but with guns...)

5. Return to The Temple of Elemental of Evil
(3rd edtion + major bugs and poor gameplay)

6. Pool of Radiance ROMD
(lack of customization with 3e ruleset)

7. NWN
wost main story EVER EVER.............................EV ARRRRR!

8. Oblivion
felt like it had no soul

9. Perhaps all the Persona games after the first one

10. Current & Future JPN rpgs becoming feminized, lame and or childish. "oh the terror"

11. Pretty sure Diablo III is going to be on this list, because im cynical at this point on my number list

and that's just off the top of my head
<_<
