I'm wondering if there will a patch to get Anders to side with the templars through being a rival?

Image IPB

It is confirmed to be true...
There are several threads about this but nobody has been able to do it without debugging the script.

I only played DA2 once but why would Anders side with the Templars? That goes against everything he believes in. Is that really a bug?

According to the the prima guide it's not possible. I can't believe it's even an option... Anders siding with the templars? O_o

Jennifer Hepler, the writer for Anders stated that is possible by convincing him he's wrong though the rivalry path to side with the templars... though it's bugged since at the end, Anders recoginizes Hawke as a friend rather than a rival.
People have been trying to get that ending though it's bugged, so I'm really hoping that there will be a patch for this.

Didn't the guide say that Fenris siding with mages wasn't possible?

Apparantly the whole rivalry ending is bugged for Anders. It's not just a choice for siding with the templars which is an option the ending is shown on youtube, but several conversations should change for the rivalry path and they don't. Essentially at the end it defaults to friendship no matter what.

Wow, that is a huge bug. Hope there's nothing like that for any other companions.

yeah. Don't know if it was noticed in time for the patch though.

You know... Anders siding with the Templars doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Not only is it a complete contradiction to everything he's ever said and done, but why would Meredith even allow that to happen? I'd need to see the scene first hand, and even if I did, I doubt this would have been logical... I mean... really? Anders helping Templars after killing the Grand Cleric??? Hawke must have some kind of mind control ability I'm not aware of.

I think you can see the scene on youtube...(The scene was debugged but then the game crashed.)
At the end, Anders seems to realize what he's done and accepts to side with the templars despite him describing that "Is it my weakness that I wished you had killed me instead?....   I can feel Vengeance whelling up inside me scratching to get out...."
Hawke:*I picked the option with the star like option* Show me you are truly sorry for what you have done Anders."

It's contradicting if the siding were to happen with the friendship path, but through the rivalry path he says that merging with Justice was wrong.
You can make Merrill to side with templars and Fenris to fight for mages in the rivalry path.

I've always had Fenris fight with the mages- both at full friendship and full rivalry. Does that mean it is a bug?

I've seen videos of Anders siding with the Templars, but only through romance.

the only way to do it at the moment is through the pc console. I think it's meant to happen at 100% rivalry but it's bugged and won't happen normally in the game at all.

No, I don't think so but I always thought full friendship with Fenris would mean that you support his beliefs as It's how it is to get full friendship with Anders.

I'm not sure if this is true, but I've heard from other threads that if Anders sides with the templars without Hawke being a romance with him that he will ask if Hawke can kill him after the battle. ):

My 1st playthrough, I had everyone at full friendship before the endgame. You just have to play a character that is a two-faced liar that tells each companion what they want to hear. It took a great deal of party manipulation to get constant approval...I reloaded alot.

With Fenris at full friendship, when I sided with the mages, he basically said he didn't agree, but wouldn't abandon me. Likewise, Merrill didn't bat an eye when I sided with templars, and she was full rivalry. I think that is the case with all companions except Anders...and Sebastian will leave if you don't meet his ultimatum with Anders.

I can't wait for the rivalmance with Anders to get fixed. It looks deliciously painful.

I have been rivaling him, and after I saved him from killing the girl in his Justice quest, you can call him an abomination. He agrees and says the templars might be right. That's when he asks if you want him to leave the party or stay. Following this line of reasoning, it's not a leap to make him admit he is wrong again, post chantry boom. Someone in a romance with another person will do all sorts of crap- including betraying their core beliefs, at times. Anders idolizes the PC when you romance him...borderline obsession.

Since the type of character you play affects how the game shapes itself, I don't think it is unreasonable to include the rivalry outcome. It has been a completely different game experience for me, having Anders as a rival. Makes me want to weep alot. :crying:

Same here! I was so obsessed with getting party approval, that I always saved before a convo with a companion.(and always reloaded since Hawke sometimes says something I didn't mean to say. Image IPB)

But for my 2nd playthrough, I tried out the rivalry path for some of my companions and I found the story to be alot more... interesting than trying to please everyone all the time. Image IPB

I'm wondering if this topic is known to the devs, among most of the players; they haven't heard much conformation towards this to believe whether or not this is possible...

It's been put in the list of priorities for the next patch so yes it is a known issue.
