www.businesswire.com/news/home/20110407005391/en/EA-FUNimation-Entertainment-Announce-Mass-Effect-Anime

Casey Hudson of BioWare, executive producer of the Mass Effect series, will serve as executive producer on the film, along with FUNimation President and CEO Gen Fukunaga and Director of Original Entertainment Chris Moujaes and T.O Entertainment’s CEO Takeichi Honda and Yui Shibata.

"Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media. Extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us,” said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer for the Mass Effect series. "Partnering with FUNimation ensures that we will bring this rich universe to life with the utmost quality and the same attention to detail that the Mass Effect games are known for.”

as long as it's better than the japanese-cliche halo ones... tbh it could be really good iff they kept the art style of galaxy...

Oh god, I really wished that was a rickroll. Halo did the same thing as well... I find this information...disturbing.

Well, hopefully this Mass Effect variant will actually have some substance and avoid the Halo Legends pitfall of just being a gimmicky thing where they just give Halo to different anime directors and see what they can do with it.

Dragon Ball Z, Full Metal Alchemist, Hellsing... Alright, promising enough.

Ah well, I always wanted a ME anime, so we'll see how it goes.

Yeah, if they make it tasteful I'm not opposed, I just didn't get half of those snippet-films on the Halo Legends DVD. The Spartan 1337 one was funny though :P

that was the worst one. 'leet'. two mysteriously superpowered teenagers. complete bull**** anime cliche. ridiculed the whole premise of the shorts and the universe.

I can understand the trepidation many feel at this news, because I know how bad anime can get, but I also know that there have been many great works of scifi anime. I think that the ultimate success or failure of this project will come down to two things: the writing and how certain things are designed (mostly the women, because that's usually where things start to go off the rails in anime). If Bioware can get T.O. Entertainment's animators to not go overboard with fanservice and get some staff writers to write the script, then there's a decent chance that it can be good.

That said, if they can swing the writers for Cowboy Bebop or the Ghost in the Shell series, I wouldn't mind letting them have a go at the ME universe.

Sweet, but how will they fit giant anime-eyes in Tali's helmet?

I'm sensing something along the lines of ME Galaxy.

Another reason to stay away from anything ME related after ME 3. This will just make it easier.

Dont get me wrong, I am huge anime fan, but I doubt that this will have depth of GitS, Cowboy Bebop or Evangelion.

I'm a bit worried about this, I haven't really liked anything of ME ooutside ofthe games (which are among my favorite games), so I can't help feeling dread, especially as I'm not a big fan of anime :P

To be honest, I think what they need to do is get western writers and just leave the animation to the Japanese. If you want to avoid the anime cliches it's best to do so by letting non-Japanese do the writing, since that's where most of the cliches lie. Sure, some are visual and all, but it's usually linked to the writing more than anything. Nothing against the Japanese and all, but they have a different style than the west, and I think Mass Effect suits a more western style of writing personally.

To be fair, Halo sucks to begin with, so I wouldn't expect quality from any adaptation made of it anyway.

If it's done by the same team that did Ghost in the Shell SAC I would watch it.

Female Shepard wielding the Widow reminds me of Motoko Kusanagi single handed shooting sniper at close range against an armor suit
