I know it won't be good, so I'm just going to hope it's so bad that it's hilarious.

It has a chance. Casey Hudson won't let them churn out crap. These types of things have a nasty stigma in the western world of being mediocre and subpar. Let's hope the Bioware/FUNimation team-up can finally show everyone how it's done.

That said, if they can swing the writers for Cowboy Bebop or the Ghost in the Shell series, I wouldn't mind letting them have a go at the ME universe.

To be honest, I think what they need to do is get western writers and just leave the animation to the Japanese. If you want to avoid the anime cliches it's best to do so by letting non-Japanese do the writing, since that's where most of the cliches lie. Sure, some are visual and all, but it's usually linked to the writing more than anything. Nothing against the Japanese and all, but they have a different style than the west, and I think Mass Effect suits a more western style of writing personally.

agreed, and that goes back to what i posted about the halo animes: they were pretty much all variations on one or other japanese anime cliche that you see in *all* their own productions, rather than what you'd expect to see in a western property of a certain nature.

hopefully having Casey Hudson as exec producer will keep it as in-universe and tone as possible *fingers crossed.*

Hope they keep Galaxy art-style. And I pray they don't add any annoying little girls, like it was with Devil May Cry anime.

Yeah, another change in style, just what the franchise needed -_-
I hope it's the kind of anime with amazingly detailed drawings and good story.

Strictly speaking, it only counts as a change if it's being applied to the entire franchise, this is just another way to expand on the universe like the novels and comics. Take it from a long time Star Wars nerd, the expanded universe is just as hit and miss as the core of the franchise. For every Darth Vader, you'll have an Emokin, for every KotOR you'll have a KotOR 2, for every Darth Bane: Path of Destruction you'll have a Death Troopers. Whether this will be an entry in the expanded universe that is praised as the epitome of combining Eastern and Western styles or one that we lock away and pretend doesn't exist remains to be seen.

I'm... conflicted.
On the one hand, there's great anime like Twelve Kingdoms, Ghost in the Shell, Dennou Coil, Ergo Proxy, Grave of the Fireflies, and so on.
On the flipside, there's the vast majority of the rest that just plain sucks. So this could be great, but it could also suck balls. I'm hoping for the former.
Also, to the Halo haters, have a look here before you go bashing Halo for lack of story. It's no longer updated, but there's some interesting stuff there.

Anyone else feel like (barring Revelation) Mass Effect should have started and ended as a trilogy? I really am not a fan of the Star Wars-esque expansion the series is undergoing...

Here here, hopefully it's comedy gold like the Van Damme Street Fighter movie.

Still, a part of me wishes it'll be legitamately good.

Never said Halo lacks a story, it has one, it just happens to be a story that I hate.

Seeing this universe aspirate for the first real breakthrough of games acknowledged as something which could be taken as serious as movies/books was just exagerated enthusiasm from my part back then I guess...ok then...when will it air on Nickelodeon channel?

It would be one thing if it was more like dead space's animated films, but this is going to have a slightly off-putting feel to it like Halo Legends. It's certainly an interesting direction, but don't be surprised if the fans aren't satisfied.

Mass Effect the moe anime.

It will just be about Tali, Miranda, Kasumi, and Jack and their adventures in high school while also running a band.

Whether or not I care will depend on what the specific subject matter is, but it could potentially be good--or at least more satisfying than the Dark Horse comics. Mass Effect's expanded media hasn't been fantastic by any means, but it's still been enjoyable, so I'm willing to give an anime its due chance.
