DA2 is a turd. No amount of "but Bethesda did it" can justify DA2 being a turd.

that reminds me of south park and butters. "Simpsons did it!"

That's irrelevant. I've never said if the changes are for better or worse, just the hiprocracy in those complaining about changes from DAO while defending the same changes from FO.

No - attempt to cater to all and you wind up catering to none.

The point of this thread was whether or not catering to a large unknown consumer produce a worthwhile product for all consumers, not if it is hypocritical to dislike similar changes for one game but not another.

EA Bioware stated why they wanted to appeal to the masses that like CoD. Tthe result was DA2 not doing what EA Bioware aimed for.

Ironicly, it was DAO that appealed to more gamers than any game in Bioware's history, yet somehow the fellow in charge felt that radical changes were necessary to appeal to a wide audience. Certanly with the benefit of hindsight we can clearly see what should've been obvious all along really, that when you've got a huge success on your hands, you dont make huge changes, you make small ones. If DA2 had stuck to improving the graphics, improving the crafting system, and improving the story, instead of making wholesale changes across the board, no doubt it would've been extremely successful just like the original. In the future, if they want to appeal to the masses, they should look at their biggest selling game ever as something to emulate, not something to distance themselves from.

@OP: The only way to cater for a lot of gamers with different tastes, it's to pull out a true classic. And designing a game using metrics or marketing research it's not the best way to make a classic.

Bull****. Everyone's entitled to his tastes but sales figures tell a different story. A story where ME2 have sold a lot more while being published only on 2 platforms and where DA2 is selling just like DA:O if not more so.
