and yes i have used the quick level glitch, but only after i'd completed the game once with no glitching. i was at max level, and i decided to do some quests solo, dozens of enemies and i was hacking, slashing and generally causing destruction, spamming my 2h warrior abilities and revelling in the blood and gore.

During the quest with that human/elf kid, when he got captured by slavers, I threw a knife into the slaver's face. It was pretty badass.

If you spent your time running in circles, you're doing something wrong. Even as a Rogue I spent nearly every battle face to face.

Mages get no benefit from being face to face with anyone. All that gets them is interrupts and knock backs to the point where they get practically shut down (unless they buy the fortitude passive)

(also, a rogue who's spending time face to face rather than face to back is probably doing something wrong, too Image IPB)

Well presumably Mages would be using Tanks and Rogue management powers to keep aggro off them. Less running that way.

As for Rogues, Backstabbing is only one way to go. I was a Duelist 'Off-tank' rogue myself.

I don't care how awesome you think your character build were, or your play tactics, I will bet more than once you ran around in circles to wait out a heal spell or potions cooldown, or to wait out an aggro until you could hit taunt again. That was my point, the game wasn't balanced well, you feel like a push over weakling, because even a few times doing that chicken run is just pure comedy , not the thing of heroes.

Destroying the Collector ship before entering the base.

It was especially satisfying since I felt like I avenged the original Normandy and her crew.

Edit:Whoops, wrong game.  Sorry.

Anyways, I thought nailing Isabela made me feel pretty manly.

I feel badass everytime I one hit KO someone with 'Assassinate'. That is the death button. It is amazing. It's key #6.

Revanants can suck it. I have the Death Button.

My Hawkes have mostly been trying to just get on with their lives when the world around them gets dark and stormier. For me I guess feeling badass wouldn't be the most important thing, rather feeling really connected to my Hawke or to the game. Hmm.... gonna try to keep this spoiler-free.

* Taking a drink with a guy from the guards during a very important q for a friend. Highly amusing and I was squirming in my chair because it was so embarrassing, and funny =)    I was my poor Hawke sitting there
* Varric during a personal q when he talks to Cassandra, second Act. In a certain house.
* the romantic scenes with the male LI:s ( the wall- and the kiss-scene, both of them are really good =) )
* a certain very intense scene in the second act, a serial killer might be involved. Had me bawling like a kid. The end of it *sniffle*

I don't hunt for badass scenes =) but I love to feel that connection with my Hawke

Ripping the ogre in half as a mage in the opening of the game. Almost makes me wish Varic would have kept going with the story, I wanna know how I killed the dragon!

There were quite a few moments, most of which I consider to be mainly spoken dialogue or cutscenes instead of actual fights.

Like when I was talking to Carver after doing his quest in Act 1, choosing the sarcastic options and him getting all whiny at me. After that, I chose the option to set him straight: "Fun's fun, but you're taking this little pissing match a little too far." ( paraphrased ).

Or when I go to see the slaver Danzig ( or whatever he's called in Darktown ) choose the sarcastic option, which leads to Hawke drawing his knife, which results in Danzig making some kind of Tevinter Imperium Slaver martial arts movement: grabbing Hawke by the hand and shoving him back.

Oh you're very right about that. With me I chose the aggressive arguement and when we got to that point of the conversation Hawke said something like, "Are you done?" or something like that, which left Carver feeling embarrassed and flustered, then he went on to say, "I carry each death with me and if you're not ready to do that, don't ask for it" or something like that and... man that was SUCH a badass moment. A shame it's kinda buried depending on certain choices but still... just awesome writing.

That Danzig part was actually a badass moment for Danzig. lol. Made my Hawke feel more than a little emasculated. Damn slavers.

In my humble opinion, badassery is an integral component of games... especially in RPGs where you're supposed to identify strongly with the character.

I disagree completely with your basic premise.

In many games (action games, mostly), making the player feel empoered is a primary design goal.

But in an RPG, you (the player) aren't the one doing things in the game.  You are not your character.  I don't think identifying with your character is important, or even desireable.

While this thread was not meant to be a debate on what constitutes an RPG or how one should regard his/her RPG character, I think I should offer my views on this:

I know I'm not my character. I did not mean RPGs are meant to make me feel like my character, or like I'm doing what my character is doing. I meant that RPGs should (in my individual opinion - not fact) enhance how one identifies WITH their characters, not AS their characters.

When I say identify with a character,  I mean relate to him/her. Emphathize, understand, admire. Being a badass, or empowered, in a game, helps me identify with my character because it shows how much my character impacts the world/story of the game, and with what kind of attitude. It makes me feel more connected and invested in the story and in the world. It increases my enjoyment of the game.

Of course, badassery is not the only determinant making me invested in the game, but when it is executed well, it does give me a rush I generally look for in good RPGs.

To the snarkies: DA2 may not have been the best it could have been, but I don't think it's a screw-up either. Hope posting in this thread helped fulfilled your snark quotient for the day.

Killing Fenris, was so tired of his emo ranting. Right around the middle of the game when I had a good couple points into Reaver and would skirt the edge of death to maximize my damage. Then all the bugs started cropping up and that excitement was replaced with frustration.

Using my dog in the Arishok fight and noticing that the bite animation looks to be at the Arishok's crotch level.  I just let the whole nobility of Kirkwall see that if you **** with me that my dog will bite your balls off.  Who needs sharks with lasers.

I'm still angry my dog couldn't duel Loghain. Eamon spoils all my fun.
