Dev answered this saying enemies will be using Melee weapons, Shepard will not.

Shepard is a cybernetically enhanced super-commando with heavy armour. Just meet their sword with a fist to the face. They won't be getting back up.

But... the article also says you can pick up and use weapons. Oh well. :-P Not much loss, considering we have everything BUT usable melee weapons.
I'm really happy that BioWare has taken so much input from the player community on this aspect of the game. Players in general liked the more streamlined interface where you didn't have to spend half an hour every 2 or 3 missions organizing your inventory, but we felt too limited in ME2. So what do you guys do? You bring weapon mods into the current system.
So yeah, impressed with how BioWare is listening to people.
I will say, though, that the way customization is done in ME2 doesn't go far enough with the affects on the stats.
One Request, Please:
Could our ME2 armor and weapons be brought into ME3? I never really had a chance to use most of the stuff in my packs... And I wanna keep my Collector's Armor! And my Terminus Armor! And my black hole gun! Besides, it'd be a good way of encouraging further sales of those packs now, which could be used to pay for more man-hours to be put into ME3! Everyone wins!
Stat Growth/Branching Skills:
Cool idea, to have skills branching. I'm a supporter!
No Vehicle (at least as a focus):
Now this kinda makes me sad. They basically said that the vehicle will be at about the same level of participation as the Hammerhead in ME2. Now I liked the Hammerhead (I do have a sneaking suspicion that the supposed lack of armor of the Hammerhead is due more to poor hit detection for fast-moving objects in ME2, though), but I really liked the exploration elements in ME1. I can see why they'd go against the pacing in ME3, but hey the Reapers take their time in conquering a galaxy, so who says we can't do that sometimes if it is called for as well? I'm still *okay* with vehicles being not very utilized, though.
Events of Mass Effect 1/2:
This was one of the weaker elements of the article. A lot of the events described in the article should/would have been directly affected by decisions in the first two games. Krogans attacking the Salarians over the genophage? Well, is this really what the fairly-wise Wrex would have done? Couldn't the situation be solved easily by a certain ME2 decision? The Quarians and the Geth at war? There were several points in ME2's story that would have changed how this plays out. I guess I can only hope for the best.
Cerberus Trying to Kill You:
*Me* they should be trying to kill. But there are a lot of people out there who were huge Cerberus supporters. Could you make it a splinter faction or something for those people instead?
Thresher Maw?:
A Thresher Maw is really big enough to drag down a Reaper? They're big, but they don't seem that big. It does introduce some interesting questions as to *why* Thresher Maws exist, though. And why they're all over the galaxy. Were they seeded by an ancient civilization as a way to strike back against the Reapers beyond the grave?
Sanders:
People have been asking for a tie-in with the books for a long time. We got a small one in ME2, but this could be really cool.
Broken ME1/ME2 Import Decisions:
You guys really have to make things clear to us regarding imports. BioWare has never taken a stance on the 16 or so broken import decisions from the first game. Only one or two were broken in the actual ME1 save file (I only know of UNC: Besieged Base, actually), and I'm not convinced that those are fully irrecoverable either (since Hacket does correctly say if you completed/aced the mission). Why not patch the broken decisions you can fix and give the player the option of choosing the outcome of those you can't?
And what about us PC players (or savvy 360 players) who can edit our save files to correct these mistakes? Will people who do this create game-breaking bugs in ME3? Will content even exist on the ME3 disc for being nice to Conrad in ME1, or acing the UNC: Besieged Base, or supporting the Consort? I need to know this stuff before doing my final run of the game. Come on, the mistake has been made. It's in the past and everyone who is affected already knows about it or doesn't care enough to notice. Just tell us what we need to know to feel fully prepared.
Multiplayer/Lack Thereof:
No multiplayer is kinda a bummer for me. They did say that they *wanted* to put it in in some way, though. If they hadn't started it by the time the interview was done, there is probably no way to implement it well now. TBH, I don't want much for multiplayer. No death match or extra story or anything. I just want the ability to play as a squadmate during when away from the Normandy. Now clearly, at some point that might get awkward if you're playing as Shepard's significant other and/or ex. But they could just add a fourth character and up the difficulty considerably. I think that'd be awesome. Really the only obstacle game-design-wise would be keeping the second player from initiating events, although really it might not matter that much. Probably a good compromise would be if there was a buffer zone in the map beyond where an event would normally trigger for Shepard that the second player can enter freely. But at a certain point past the buffer zone, the event would trigger anyway. During split screen (as opposed to netplay or LAN), just cut a corner and make it so you can't go too far from Shepard so that extra assets don't have to be in memory.
Really, I honestly can think of two people I'd like to play this way with. I've got two friends (one online and one in person) who absolutely adore Mass Effect but haven't played 2 yet. I've been trying to convince them, but I'm positive they'd play it if it were coop. Because when we hang out, we *always* play games together, especially coop ones. That's for both friends, who are very different people. Even if they had played ME2, I'd still want to play with them. Really, a feature as I've described wouldn't take that many extra manhours compared to what people probably think of when they hear "multiplayer." No need for extra maps or a perk system or a leaderboard or even a dedicated online server (just do a direct connection). Keep it simple and the playtesting should be nice and easy, too.

People should not make assumptions that people have played some addional content. (DLC). Point is if those DLC explain something between ME2 and ME3, that's great. But start of ME3 should not leave people cold, who haven't played those DLC's. Meaning it has to make sense too for them too.
Our goal is to make sure that when you start playing ME3, you are brought into the story line in a way that the game will "make sense" - regardless of having played the DLCs or even ME1 or 2. Heck, even players of the past games may need a refresher depending on how long it will have been since they last played. We're looking into creative ways to do this. And no, that doesn't mean "it doesn't matter if you played the first two games or not" - there's no desire to invalidate loyalty to the series
Thats why I like books that have recaps in them, for example the Eragon books...I haven't read the third book in like two years or more so I've forgotten all the names and events and minor details.
Mind you Mass Effect 2 only came out slightly over a year ago but still.

From the Cerberus Network -11/12/2010
Photo Revives Debate Over Tuchanka's "Colossal Thresher Maw"“A photo taken by Clan Ravanor miners during a drilling operation on the krogan homeworld of Tuchanka is reigniting debate on the existence of a colossal thresher maw. The photo, now being viewed widely on the extranet, adds to a long line of evidence that skeptics call an old and treasured hoax -- and believers call irrefutable proof. For centuries, krogan settlements bordering Tuchanka's deserts have told stories of entire clans swallowed by this colossal thresher maw. While locals claim the ancient creature is real, no outside sources have confirmed the beast's existence.”
Apparently, it's just really rare for one to be so big...

the one dark spot is how they are dealing with Cerberus and commander Shepard. i am utterly frustrated at Bioware's decision to screw over Cerberus fans, especially since i sided with Cerberus in EVERY DECISION throughout the past 2 games. from the ending off mass effect one, to the ending in mass effect two. from legion, to the Intel reports. not to mention my Shep sticking his neck out for Cerberus all the time. heck I've done more things that benefited Cerberus than everyone else in mass effect lore combined. the only real victories of Cerberus attained was because of me. i have an uneasy feeling that Bioware is going to go for a stupid plot twist like, that the illusive man is really a reaper or some crap like that.please prove me wrong Bioware.
now onto my second point: although i like the systems alliance(just behind Cerberus) i was astonished that the Normandy fell into the hands of the alliance. this was not their ship to begin with. their Normandy is at Alchera, not only did they have audacity to take away the ship, but re purpose it as an alliance ship.. this i do not mind so much as, the Cerberus crew were getting kind of bland, so a purging is alright with me. i just hope they don't got rid of EDI, having her on board truly made me feel like my ship was on the cutting edge and the most advanced ship in the galaxy.
sorry to gripe on this forum, but i want to voice my opinion

First off is the point made on IGN that we should have space combat. I really hated the idea in the beginning (with disgust) but then I wondered if there was a way. I figured that it had to be unconventional; it would be guerrilla warfare tactics. (Lie in wait, ambush) it would change the navigation as well, from the top down map to a 3rd person manually controlled view, with an option of the space navigation map from the second game. (When traveling between solar systems the space navigation map should take over of course.) I also do not like the “arena” style maps in any squadron game. I think we should be able to exit the map and retreat to fight another day. (Just like the Geth ambushes in the Armstrong cluster in the first game.) Since, it would be guerilla tactics, the game play would be focused on stealth so we can hide behind asteroids for cover, as the enemy ships send probes to scan the area, and then we destroy them and if we fail the enemy ship(s) will fire upon us, which should be realistic pulverizing our cover depending on the objects thickness and composition. (Of course) Space combat also brings a whole new idea of upgrading the Normandy with different weapons (ex. AA guns, mass accelerator cannon, different upgrades etc…) Also protecting a convoy in space or on ground would prove to be a good side mission and or main story mission, and we should have a side mission where we can destroy asteroids or enemy vessels with a GUARDIAN cannon. (Manually controlled)
Vehicles, exploration and map size:
When I saw the gunship I was like wow I want to fly one! However I was greatly disappointed until I got a chance to fly in the car during the shadow broker mission. I think that the transit system should be manually controlled like that. Makes for a miniature sandbox experience when traveling from place to place. I have a question though why in the first game when exiting the Mako did all the characters “pop” out of the APC? That is very weird to me shouldn’t they come out of the back or sides? Halo does it, just cause does it, mercenaries does it why not mass effect? Oh yeah give us a gun ship with fun missions, not boring missions, but fun missions. (Like fire support, either a rail shooter with a mini gun, or 3rd or 1st person manual control of the craft they have that in call of duty and battle field bad company 1; let us have it as well)
The Mako wasn’t bad… it was the boring terrain but the DLC in the second game was worse how repetitive, to hover around a dusty plane for a couple of missions and gather materials in a barren wasteland is not fun. In the first game you could quell a biotic rebellion or talk sense into them, and kill mercenaries and one had freedom of movement. The other one was just killing Geth and digging up ****. I hated the hover tank the Mako was a tank a true tank that could be hit by anything and come out of it. Also why get rid of the Mako if people just didn’t like the terrain.
There is so little exploration in the second game (you said there would be exploration planets) it’s a mediocre exploration most of it is scanning planets for about 15 minutes each, when driving around in the Mako was oh 5 minutes hardly 15 minutes. No one complained about the Mako’s roll in the main story missions on Noveria, Illos, feros, recruiting Liara no one had complaints about it because it was included into the main missions and felt natural. (Felt natural to get out of the vehicle when you wanted to ha, ha, ha.) Everyone only complained about the barren land on the unexplored worlds, it wasn’t the side missions nor the main missions involving it, it was the terrain. So bring back the vehicles, but make it have more space and things to do.
What is with these small maps? I loved the map sizes in the first game. And people say that sovereign destroyed the wards so that’s why every map is small, I don’t get it, what about Feros that wasn’t hit so don’t tell me the reason why maps are small are because of one reaper hitting the citadel? (It was a very odd argument.)
I love large maps with plenty of people to talk to, and why do we have to follow an arrow that is predetermined what’s wrong with setting our own markers? Are all of you trying to please the “12-15 year old call of duty fan boys”? I want the large presidium maps again, clearly that wasn’t destroyed nor much of the cities on the arms of the citadel you can tell when looking out a window. Why couldn’t we have explored some of that? Or go to a beach on Ilium? (I find it hilarious how Ilium is named after the bone of the pelvis lol I get the joke there.)
I also think the maps on one planet should link to other areas again, damn the citadel map of the presidium and what wards we did have in the first game was huge and that was a few wards connecting to the presidium. So why couldn’t we explore a city like a miniature sandbox game play like how it is in the first game but be able to cross from building to building using a sky walk (I love skywalks so breath taking over looking a city, has to be a long sky walk with glass windows to look out on the city at night.) and then onto a open platform (Zen garden on the platform!) windows.
And let us explore some of the streets like on the ground actually I want to see a comparison between the old and the new. I love the addition of ladders that the team is adding in for the third game, it really diversifies the maps, with multi-levels, I hope that we will be allowed to jump off down on to a floor below us that is sticking out and being able to do this in a place like the presidium would be amazing. There should be at least 3 large locations on each world about the same size a ferros (including the road and underground) and the presidium. But when using the transit system I’m not saying we should have this large open sandbox no I’m thinking more GameCube James bond under fire size with only a few directions available.
Five: multiplayer and magazine clips:
First off I know where this is going; no multiplayer please I can easily tell that’s where it is heading. The clips, the arrow following, and the boring map design all means multiplayer. And no ****ing co op how can biotics work in co op if bringing up the power wheel pauses the game, which also poses a problem for standard death matches for multiplayer. Multiplayer would waste too much money and direct the focus of the development from story to online. Bad ideal, people say “well we can have a DLC and not everyone has to buy it.” A DLC why that sounds stupid, so you rather to play a crappy poorly made low budget multiplayer that is downloaded? Go off mind your own business and play mind jack; don’t waste our time.
Now what about clips, let me ask what military branch in there right mind would give up unlimited ammo for clips? It was quite accurate when you had all the upgrades and the highest ranked guns which gave a great RPG experience.
If people want a multiplayer, make a FPS mass effect game with a deep story line! That would be awesome and use the engine for battle field bad company, destructible cover rules. (I don’t think the present graphics, while being impressive is just not realistic or gritty enough, for a multiplayer first or third person shooter, thinking of gears of war and battle field 3.)
This brings me to six loot, armor, and upgrades.
I love loot. There is nothing better then a new weapon or items that change the game play up a bit. The first loot experience I ever had was in Final Fantasy, great game I always made sure I bought every weapon I needed for the route I was on to beat up the stronger opponents that I saw. When mass effect 1 came around many years later, I really enjoyed the looting experience it’s a personal achievement in a game and made the game play flow better. I still would like to have loot, just with some type of vault to keep my favorite ones and keep finding better ones. The problem with the looting system in mass effect is the fact that the enemies don’t necessarily get “stronger”. Sure you had the scion and the big floating thing which I loved both. But unlike final fantasy the enemies are not over baring. So it poses a problem and that’s when I saw this comment.
Personalize weapon upgrades. You want a long range Assault rifle? Buy upgrades like a scope laser sight etc.
I love this idea, we should be able to upgrade and personalize weapons and then I saw it in game informer that you would make it personalized like that. I hope get to find a lot of loot and upgrades to buy or research. I love a lot of loot and a lot of people would agree with me the only problem that existed was the inventory which is great to hear its being updated. I am suspicious how ever just how much loot are we going to have because I don’t mind carrying around dozens of possible upgrades as long as the duplicates can be easily destroyed and I don’t have to select an upgrade to leave the menu, It would also be nice to have a storage container like in dragon age for our favorite weapons.
Last points:
Dealing with evil organizations, like the corporation on Ileum, when recruiting thane, and fighting against Cerberus in the first game was disappointing, what should have felt so Noir became so bland, in the second game we got to see the illusive man’s face which hampered… the illusiveness about him. The books where amazing so noir such suspense and mystery. In the next game make it more Noire in all sense of the word (narration, lighting, acting, and set.) We should have stealth missions kind of like a combination of Splinter cell conviction and what mind jack tried to do (with AI hack instead, cannot hack reapers or anything reaper made. Or they can track the signal back to you) which blend you into the darkness and we also should have sniper missions.
Basically I want mass effect three to feel three dimensional, I want to be immersed in the cultures of each species on each planet I want to see the sun set, I want to feel like I am there and that I live there. We hardly talked to anyone outside of side missions and main story missions within a city or colony. Hell we couldn’t really even talk to our partners nor would they talk amongst them selves either. (I hope we can talk when ever we want to our characters. Dragon age really cut back on that. I hope it isn’t the same for mass effect.) There should be more emotion in these conversations we have, but hearing “So long” over and over again. It drives me crazy, why can’t we crack a joke, which there was a suggestion on IGN that a humor choice on the power wheel would be a great addition. Or break out and start crying with some real gut wrenching ****? Why can we not party, or have a good time doing activities and things of that nature. Hell play basketball we still have that in the future right?

I think it's still too early to tell exactly where they're going with this and it might very well be 'too early' until the game is released. I know it's small consolation and I'm kind of on-edge about this as well (I'm anti-Cerberus, but it frustrates me for the pro-Cerberus fans out there) but we'll see where things go.
I’m actually more surprised/shocked that there are pro-Cerberus fans out there, and actually I find it kind of funny and taken back by it quite a bit in disbelief. Is it like a bad guy’s fan group, or feel pity on the illusive man because they them selves are outcasts? Or is it because of the cool armor?
