I don't think people should panic just yet over the fact that certain characters haven't been confirmed. The fact that they haven't been mentioned at all is a good sign. You can't expect Bioware to give everything away - they certainly didn't with ME2, and there's no way that those confirmed on the list are the only squadmates we're going to have.

Tali's overwhelming popularity and the delicacy of Thane's condition make them prime targets for being surprise reveal characters anyway. Nobody knew for sure whether Garrus would be a squadmate in ME2 till the last minute, or until they encountered him in the game. The fact that he's already been confirmed makes Tali an even more likely candidate for the last minute surprise squady this time around.

True, when I first saw Archangel I knew it was a turian, but when it turned out he was Garrus I was like f##k yeah!

Garrus was the most poorly kept secret in the world.

You could see him in several trailers fighting beside Shepard.

Plus bioware basically confirms every character to be present but for how long is the question. The article states some will be permanant while others are temp ( likely tali, wrex, ashley, thane, and grunt.)

Which is true for Garrus as well and every other character from ME2.  If they died, they will not show up in ME3.

Meh, Tali died in my playthrough, but tbh I don't mind that much, I find her very annoying and extremely boring, but I do hope Grunt makes it back, he was pretty cool.

Yeah, Grunt was cool. I'd like to have him back in the team. But considering the fact he could have died in ME2, I think he'll be more of a cameo alongside Wrex on Tuchanka.

Yeah there's a good chance he'll be helping Clan Urdnot alongside Wrex I think, but there is always the possibility either Wrex or Grunt WILL be a squaddie, because I doubt they'll want to introduce a whole new Krogan squad-mate when we already like Grunt/Wrex, so I'm hoping we get one of them back lol.

My reactions from the article (spoilers) -

  • Loved the confirmation of evolving powers with multiple branches
  • The return of weapon mods sounds nice, but it may be nothing more than PR talk again
  • Very pleased to hear that Shepard can roll, vault over objects, and climb ladders in combat (espcially the ladder part, which could add interesting level designs previously unheard of in the series)
  • I remain a bit skeptic about the improved AI (they never function like developers say they would) but will remain optimistic
  • NO MULTIPLAYER!!! THANK YOU BIOWARE, THANK YOU!!!
  • Very interested in the addition of class specific melee animations (don't screw the soldier over with a generic punch please)
  • GARRUS!!! However, the "in some form" disclaimer has me nervous. After reading further, I came across the following quote from Casey -
"If Garrus survived, he can join Shepard and may even have a personal quest you can complete".

I found it odd that Casey specifically mentions the fact that Garrus has a (potential) personal quest. I mean, why offer a personal quest to a temporary companion?
  • Mass Effort MMO? No, just no. Don't you guys already have enough to worry about with KotOR? MMO's cost tons of money to produce and can destroy companies if they tank - developing, maintaining, and funding two MMO's is too risky (not to mention excessive) in my opinion.
  • Not to keen to hear about space combat. But then again, that tidbit of information came without context, so Casey could have been alluding to grander cutscenes, vistas, and locations instead of actual gameplay sequences.
  • I have slightly mixed feelings about the removal of weapon restrictions. Since my primary Shepard is a soldier, I can't help but feel ripped off. However, I wouldn't dream of wishing for the feature to be removed for my selfish reasons, so I leave the followiing in hopes that a Bioware dev will notice - you better give the soldier some awesome abilities since they lost what previously made them unique (ps - ammo powers suck, so don't bother including them as talents. Mods are fine, but not talents)
  • Multiple husk variations is always a good thing
  • DO NOT WANT - Ashley's new look. Part of the reason I kept wishing for Ashley back over Miranda in ME2 was the fact that she was properly dressed for combat - now she's wearing a skintight suit with long hair that probably interferes with Alliance dress code. Hopefully thats her casual/alternate outfit.
  • Why is Cerberus gunning for Shepard? I thought the Illusive Man took pride in the fact that he was willing to put his differences aside to work with Shepard. More concerning, I am afraid that Cerberus will take up a large portion of the game as one of Shepard's "primary" enemies (you can't fight reapers on foot you know)
Well, thats about it. I would love if a dev can elaborate on a few points if possible though. :P

I'm curious with the evolving powers if you are back to "rebooting" your character for the 3rd time or if the evolution will take off from where your character is now.

Space combat will be as lame as the MAKO or the "Turret Gun" sessions in the Ebon Hawk. Things that waste time and suck is my guess.

I'm not happy about the Cerberus thing since Shep #1 of mine was all about the Cerberus side of things. If it doesn't matter that you did X or Y at the end of ME2 TIM stil hates you that'll feel weak.

I would like to see some kind of bonus for all the suckers who bought those apearence packs, weapons and armors... such as myself. Dunno. Having spent more than x BioWare/MSpoints on game DLC granting few in ME3?

I personally not liking the new Ashley look either, step too close to Miranda plus it doesn't make sense since this is suppose to be happening right after ME2 it seems and also Kaiden hasn't gone through much of a change either. One of Ashleys fun qualities that I liked was how low maintenance she was and a tom boyish solider gal. Now I'm afraid they'll turn her into Miranda 2.0

I'll never understand why people think Ashley is becoming Miranda 2.0. This is Ash we're talking about here, Ash. Women do this amazing thing called changing their styles, maybe you should look it up, haha. :P

The only time we've seen Ash is when she is in her military unifrom, so this could be just how she relaxes you never know. Besides you've got one photo its too soon to judge.

Also just like to point out I'm an Ash fan and I am liking the new look ;)

Increased size in bust: Double Check!

That's pretty much Miranda now. At first when I saw the picture I thought it was then was upset seeing it was Ashley. Again it was part of her tom boyish character that she didn't look like the typical girls girl. It was also apart of how she took her job, she took  it serious and as such stay in the confines of military requirments. Also if she didn't change her styles in those 3 years you were gone why would she do so now? Even my girlfriend agree that you don't see someone like her suddenly changing that much.

You saw her on duty in her uniform. How is are you going to see her changed look if she's on duty and it was a once off during the game? Her hair is also up in a bun. I am sure it reaches shoulder length when it's out as my room mates does.

She even says in the first Mass Effect when Male Shepard, Kaidan and her are in the wards and she says something a long the lines of "If you want to see me in thigh high boots and a mini skirt I want dinner first, Sir" judging from that line I take it she knows how dress while she's off duty ;)

Already had that. She just wore it up.  In fact, it looks like she actually cut her hair since ME2.

Make up: Check!

And that.

Umm, not really.

Skin tight battlesuit: Check!

Yeah, I'll give you that one.  Not that ME1 armor was exactly what you'd call "loose fitting".

Increased size in bust: Double Check!

Again, not really. She looks about the same in that department as she did in ME1, allowing for engine/graphics upgrades and the outfit (the ME1 armor tends to make the chest look "compressed", actually.  See the ME1 romance scene).   She's also very definitely less, um, "buoyant" than Ms. Lawson.  By a significant margin.

I disagree, they're about the same as Miranda's now.
ME3 Ashley Williams
Miranda

EDIT: I tried to get the poses as similar as possible.
