If what they mentioned in the GI article is true. (Spoiler) That there are hints to Anderson being a squadmember, I want him to be a badass like Johnson, or I want him to turn into King from Platoon.

I want Aria, Kal'Reeger, Garrus, Blasto, Miranda, Liara, Thane's son(forgot his name), Cpt Anderson, and a I'm going to guess right now that the "secret" squadmate that you get later is a prothean.

A human character with a permanent mask/helmet and armor on to hide his identity. Likes to joke about his appearance to other faceless video game/movie heroes. Great sense of humor. Not a smart ass, though. An optimist, with a "fondness" for quarian females.

A Krogan female with a very different disposition from Wrex and Grunt. More rational than vicious. Still pretty violent, though. Similar in appearance to male Krogan, except she has a different shaped crest on her head.

Aria T'loak. 300 years of training, an information broker, and a crime queen. Scheming, with secret plans to over throw Shepard, Liara, and TIM when the war is over. Likes to appeal to all of the crew mates weaknesses to intimidate them.

--OR--

Rachni soldier. Similar to Legion, is controlled from afar. Has extensive knowledge of Rachni origins, culture, and perspectives. Enjoys listening to bipedal's style music. Addicted to pheromones.

I want a Elcor, a Hanar, a Volus, a Batarian, and a Rachni squad member. After all a few of these races have to be doing something in the universe, they just can't be the awkwardly different looking species that have no combat appearances.

Well I don't want to solve their issues so that they can do their f*cking job. No seriously the entire damn galaxy is about to die and I have to go around making them fell better?

Yeah you know Shep I would really like to help you but you know I have my daddy issues so sorry you know no hard feeling? Good luck saving all life in the galaxy and all btw.

Grow a pair damn it.

Also I would like them to actually have a CONNECTION to the damn story and not just be some random filler. Make them actually do something important for the main story unlike bunch of characters in ME2.

stealth ninja edit:

Oh and for f*cks sake more alien crew please. Or at least 50-50. I did not get a SF space opera game to hang around with humans.

In ME2, the only humans on your squad was Jacob, Miranda, Jack, and Zaeed.  That's 1/3 human and 2/3 alien.  As for the ship's crew, in ME2 it's a damned Cerberus ship.  Do you really think there are going to be legions of aliens working for Cerberus?

You forgot Kasumi. Which makes 5/12. But yeah, there are more aliens than humans. I think what people are actually complaining about is the unwritten '1 member of any alien species' rule that ME seems to follow, with the plausible exception of LotSB since you could take Samara/Morinth and have 2 Asari.

In standard ME2, we have 5 humans, but only 1 Turian, 1 Drell, 1 Asari, 1 Quarian, 1 Geth, 1 Krogan, 1 Salarian. I guess some people view that as unfair. I don't really care as long as the characters are interesting and the aliens aren't just a form of tokenism there to give you random exposition on their respective cultures.

How about a good fellow human? I hate both Williams, Alenko, Lawson and Taylor. Jack is just Meh. They make our race look boring. Almost all humans are kinda boring in this game.

And a genuinly funny character. Someone who feels very warm and "homey". Not sterile. But i guess Joker is like that.

I really hope Liara and Garrus being squadmates doesn't hurt Gavorn and Aria's chances of being one.

Unlikely as it may be, I want the whole squad back. However, there are some I like a little less than others, so I'd be open to trading them for more interesting squaddies in ME3. I'd like...

-Another drell. Especially if Thane dies.
-A vorcha.
-A Batarian. Either gender.
-A human of different descent. Indian, Arab, Spanish, for example.
-So far pretty much all we've seen are influential Asari. I took the "Illium is like Omega," comments to mean it has slums and dangerous areas, so I would like to see an Asari from them.
-Soldier Salarian.

Merek Ten'Jurah Batarian: Medial Tech: At the on-set of his military career Merek was a field-medic. Despite his background in medicine and genetics the realities of warfare changed Merek. The feeling of helplessness he felt in the face of all the death he saw changed him profoundly. Merek abandoned what he saw as the "reactive action" of treating the injured and took up "direct action." Merek joined a weapons research and development team. His natural intellect allowed him to quickly learn everything his fellows knew about weapons. Merek's knowledge outstriped the other members of the team even in their own respective fields of speciality. His background in medicine helped him to modify  existing bio-weapons and even create several of his own. The Hegemony took notice of Merek and assigned to ever higher clearance and powerful think tanks. As his power within the military community grew he began to insist upon field testing his own weapons. A reputations of fearlessness and possible insanity grew around Merek as he went to greater and greater lengths to inflict maximum casualities upon his foes with his weapons. Merek's designs grew ever more brutal. Eventual Merek was becoming a liablity. The weapons that Merek created and insisted upon testing personally were far outside of galactic regulation. The council made a very public outcry for something to be done. Not wanting to lose their brilliant scientist the Hegemony faked his excection. Instead of lethal injection Merek was sent to work on a secret project. Namely, the analysis of the Leviathan of Dis. Merek's genetics background and understanding of weapons allowed him to make phenomenal strides in the study of the Leviathan and he was eventually made head of the project. On Febuary 21st Merek and three others who were working on the Leviathan attempted to venture farther into it's body than any had dared before,. Only Merek returned. He collapsed to the ground before the rest of the study and was hopsitalized for an unknown condition. He slept for 4 days murmuring under his breath the same word over and over again "Shepard." Upon waking he spent the next two hours screaming. After a quick psichiatric evaluation he was determined to be paranoid scizophrenic, bi-polar and delusional and condemned to a mental asylumn, Using unknown means Merek escaped, commandeered a starship and flew off in the direction of the Sol system. His last recorded words were "They're here! Run!" to a security guard before injecting the man with an unknown toxin and instantly killing him.

Basically I want an insane Batarian Doctor.

I think it would be awesome if Tali and Legion (or whoever your tech crew is), using quarian, geth, human and prothien technology create a mobile body for EDI. Its totally possible. I think it would be cool to see a basic robot, almost like a mech...but with a hologram projection of Trish Helser over it, similar to AVINA the hologram on the citidel. So you can sorta see the robot under it, but it would be cool in battle if when her shield goes down the hologram would shut off to divert power. Trisha Helfer is already confirmed to be back as EDI, and this would give her a more physical presence in the game. Anyone else like this idea?

I like this idea. It could be made better if she had missile batteries.

As far as new squadmates go, these are my hopes:

Yes a Batarian, definitely. If there's one race that seems to antagonize Shepard more than any other, it's the Batarians. Especially in DLC (both Arrival and Bring Down the Sky have a lot of Batarian killing). So Having a Batarian to either let Shepard make amends and/or antagonize further just makes too much sense not to do. I would honestly be surprised if there WASN'T a Batarian squadmate.

Yes it's true, we don't see enough in the way of femaleKrogans and Turians. It would be nice to see that perspective. But I feel a female Krogan is unlikely seeing as Krogans find them too precious to let out of their sights. But a Krogan "Princess" idea might work . . .

I've said I want to see another NEW race as a squadmate for a while. These bird-like Raloi could fit the bill nicely. If not that, I want to see some sort of hairy species. Maybe it's just me, but it seems odd to me that no other sentient species in the galaxy has obvious mammalian traits.

Bioware loves to give us former badguys to screw with our perceptions, so if the Batarian doesn't count on this end, I'm betting we're either getting a Vorcha or a Collector added to our ranks.

Finally I want to see a Volus in a Mech suit. Considering their size, and shape, Volus don't make the best fighters in a traditional sense. However, this doesn't mean one with some technical acumen couldn't compensate for this by creating some powered armor to integrate with his/her's already worn protection suit. Also, it would be nice to have some of the more non-combative races take a role, but I just don't see how the Elcor would work, and the Hanar are just silly. Blasto is an example that proves this.

There's already been a lot of discussion about who will be returning and who won't be for Mass Effect 3, but with the potential for every squad mate (with the exception of Liara) to die between ME1 and 2, there is going to have to be at least some no squad members for the final installment.  Also it's highly possible that some previous members will not be recruitable even if they lived.  Often mentioned are Thane and Mordin since they are nearing the end of their lives. And even if Mordin lives in ME 3, I could also see him taking more of a back seat support role, working the science mojo for fighting the reapers instead of being on the front lines.  Samara's oath only lasts until you completed the suicide mission.  If you choose Morinth, she also would likely leave you to pursue a life of killing for pleasure since she fulfilled her end of the bargain (essentially "kill my mother and I will help you with your mission").  Zaeed and Kasumi as DLC characters will likely be cameo roles since purchasing them is completely optional.  Point being, we're going to need some new characters to fill the vacancies if they are there and also provide some greater variation from the previous games.

Yes for these reasons I definitely think that there needs to be optional recruitable squadmates. This way if your Shepard has only a minimum number of squadmates to choose from; 2 from ME2, Liara (probably), and Kaiden/Ashley (probably) there would be 2-4 squadmates, and that's if all surviving ME2 squadmates return; you will still have the option to have a reasonable number of squadmates for ME3.

Having 4-6 such potential squadmates would give a range from 4 to 21 if we assume the above about returning squadmates. This would create a vastly different experience as 4 inputs/stories/viewpoints are much more intimate/brief than 21.

Anyways, if I had to choose what new squadmembers I would enjoy in ME3:

1. Batarian:
I feel, like most who have proposed the same, that the Batarians are an integral part of the human place within the galaxy. This extends to history and conflict, and they are sort of set up as binary groups who never interact peacefully. This means that the rest of the species are unable to bring both humans and Batarians into any large-scale discussions together. I feel that there is also a lot of history/conflict between Batarians and the other galactic species that hasn't been able to be touched upon in its entirety because of the human/Batarian conflict. The implications from those who completed Arrival would also take on added depth by hearing a Batarian perspective firsthand.
This seems to offer the most development of the options, in my opinion, and therefore would seem like a no-brainer.

2. Female Turian:
We've heard about them, but have never seen them. Turian society seems to be more egalitarian based on what has been said, but again we don't have any first-hand proof of this.

Khambilo wrote...
4. A Turian biotic - In ME 1 Kaidan mentions he was trained by  Turians
at Jump Zero, yet we never see a Turian biotic.  We have a wealth of
asari (the particle effects go well with their skin tone I guess) and
human biotics.  We even have a volus biotic.  But why no Turians? When
ever we fight a turian in the game, they always seem to be the thick
skinned, heavy armor, heavy weapon using types.  I think it would add
some interesting diversity to the game to have a turian biotic.

and yes, possibly making this character a biotic in some way (even if as a vanguard or something) would be a good chance to address two instances of "we've heard about this, but never had a chance to see it for ourselves" with one character.

3. Vorcha:
Everyone either thinks the Vorcha are barely intellegent or hate them outright in the galaxy. This would be a good chance to find out more about the species, have a character that helps Shepard question the stereotypes about the species, and provide a very different perspective on things as Vorcha are definitely outsiders in the galactic community.
I like Seboist's idea for how to integrate one into the party storywise. Another idea would be similar to this only have a young Vorcha who has not made a major adaptation yet (usually only happens once in life) and depending on how the mission plays out it would change stats, class, or abilities of the Vorcha squadmate, within reason there would be 2-4 different outcomes.
Plus just think of the great changes that could be made to the perception of the Vorcha in the galactic community if one helps save the galaxy, or even sacrifices itself to do so.

4. Kal'Reegar:
Think the indepth perspective of a Quarian who wasn't from a privileged background as Tali would be useful, and he's already an established character with a fanbase. Plus he's voiced by Adam Baldwin, so there's that...

5. [/b]Matriarch Aethyta:
Has implied ties to backstory, established character with following (see Kal'Reegar), strong biotic, no-nonsense attitude from a race that favors more subtlety. Seems like a good option, plus as a Matriarch we would have a chance to hear about like 1000 years of galactic/Asari history.

6. Gillian Grayson:
She is a character from the Ascension book and the upcoming Deception book. Basically she is a super powerful human biotic who happens to be a pre-teen autistic girl. I would definitely like to see a child/teen be involved in the story (the entirety of the sentient species of the galaxy are at risk here) as it would add an extra layer of "this is something that we're fighting for here". Plus, has there ever been an indepth portrayal of an autistic person in a videogame? I'm definitely looking forward to Deception, and I think it makes a good opportunity to tie the character into ME.

7. Female Krogan:
This may be better for a crew member (see end of comment), but I definitely agree with Khambilo that this would be a great perspective to have on the genophage and galactic events. A female Krogan also has immense value to the species if she would happen to be fertile. I think that it is mentioned on Tuchanka that the female clan was led by a fertile female. This would add additional dynamics to the story if you could recruit her. If not fertile, however, would create a great motivation for her to fight for curing the genophage when Shepard is eventually forced to deal with the issue once and for all.

8. "Big Ben Sniper":
Probably will need another human somewhere and he seems like a good option.

Finally, I believe that there should be some sort of option to recruit crew members to add to the Normandy roster. These characters could provide some useful upgrade either to the ship, equipment, gameplay, or interaction (ex. a volus crewmate would make an excellent requisitions officer). They could also be someone that you would be able to talk with on the ship, like with squadmates. They don't need to be as in depth as the squadmates, but could provide a lot of insight into the species/organization they represent. Volus, Hanar, and Elcor are all very interesting, but they are all possibly not very useful in a battle situation (I don't think Blasto is real, the "biotic god" was NOT what he thought he was, and yes I know there was an Elcor serial killer). Possible surviving Rachni or Protheans would also have a lot of interesting information/insight but may not be simple to integrate into the game as a squadmate, but this would get around the problem. I think this could be a revolutionary addition to role-playing games, but I'm hyping it up quite a lot because it is an idea I'm passionate about.

Anyways, it is my opinion that there is a great wealth of possibility in new squadmates and recruitable crewmembers. These should all be optional, unlike the first two games were most were manditory. If Bioware also wants to implement a limit to number of recruited squadmates then that is okay, though I would prefer they did not to open up the game even more. I think it is quite a testiment to Bioware's ability that a comment like this is even feasible as being implemented into a game that is the third part of a trilogy.

ME1: Wrex, Garrus, Tali, Liara via "ear piece"/ go-to person for information, Ashley
ME2: Legion, Thane, Mordin
ME3: Anderson, Kolyat, Shiala, Captain Kirrahe

Kirrahe if Mordin is dead.
Kolyat if he's not in prison and Thane is dead/ dies in-game from his disease.

I was going to include Aria, but there's no way she leaves Omega.

I don't want a Batarian squadmate.  Humans and Batarians just don't get along at all.

Doubt we will get the Big Ben sniper, we already have James Sanders, who is confirmed not to be the big ben guy and a character that provides a fresh look for new players of the series.

I'd say we will probably be getting a batarian, finally, other than that im pretty sure we will get your standard krogan and salarian guy. If another human, it will be female.
