Unfortunately for me, my arachnophobia is far more developed than any of you here. It pisses me of when game developers decide to put spiders in games; especially in RPG games, like there isn't anything else they can imagine as a scary enemy...make it a scorpion like they did in Fallout 3 for example.

So what about the people who are deathly afraid of scorpions? :P

Seriously though, I mean no offence, I would think it would make the game much better because the monsters are terrifying to you. I look at a spider and I'm like, "Eh... a spider. *thwack*" You look at one and go "HOLY @#$*! A SPIDER!!! *Slice*SMASH*KILLITWITHFIRE!!!!!" There is much more passion in what you'd be doing to a relatively boring and easy enemy.

But that's just my take on it. I personally would love a game with the ability to scare the crap out of me.

Could you post a save-game where you are about to encounter spiders? Then I would try it!

Thank you for the offer man, i really do appreciate it but spiders are not only in one area as i was terrified checking the walkthroughs. But i'm really grateful for you asking.

Thank you Adinos. Yes, mine is pc version but I can barely make time for playing games for 2 hours a day, because of my long hours of work at the hospital. So it's very difficult for me to create a mod, first i'd need to learn how to do it.

You have a point there but obviously and luckily you don't have a phobia :) A phobia is not just a simple feeling of fear, it's much more than that. Let me give you an example; i find the aliens in Alien movies scary but I can deal with them in a video game, therefore it was a blast playing Aliens vs. Predator 7 years ago. But if a person has a phobia of spiders, it's nearly impossible for him/her dealing with them in a 3d environment. I taught my 70 years old dad to play Resident Evil for example, that's how i got through that game. And for some other games as well :) In some games it's not that bad; if the models aren't that big and not animated that good, i can take care of it. But in this game, there are waay too many and scary looking spiders and they come on top of you from the ceiling, they pop from out of nowhere, in your face :( Therefore, i stopped playing the moment my friend told me there're those eight legged freaks in the game. But god knows how i want to play this game so bad, it's a shame...

For those that just want to get straight to playing a spider-free game without worrying about modding, I put together a super quick and dirty mod based on the APR_base-modifying idea I mentioned earlier. The modified 2DA file is here: http://social.biowar...m/project/1237/

To install, you'll have to download and extract a 2 kilobyte GDA file and put it in your core override directory. I decided for a mod this simple putting it into a DAZIP would likely be more trouble than installing it manually. :)

Do Deepstalkers have an animation for overwhelm though?

I don't have any problems with spiders in game but I just wanted to say that it's way cool Bryan that you took the time to make this mod. Two thumbs up for you and Bioware!

They do, and they will do the overwhelm attack normally. I've only done about half an hour of testing on this thing, jumping around from spider-infested area to spider-infested area using console commands to see what they look like now, and the deepstalker-spiders seem to be about as tough a fight as the spiders they used to be.

I have noticed that they try to do a "web" attack and nothing happens, though, so that part is a bit easier. :)

Heh. Don't consider this an "official" mod by any stretch of the imagination. I threw it together during my lunch break. :)

@BryanDerksen, please let me say, I love you :) This work you did, even though you say it took only an hour or so, I can't thank you enough. Does it get rid of corrupted spiders as well? I mean all kinds of spiders? What about spider queen :) Thank you man, god bless you.

There are only three spider "appearances" in the APR_base 2DA; the giant spider, the corrupted spider, and the poisonous spider. All of the spider creatures in the game should use one of those three appearances, and I've turned all three of them into copies of the deepstalker's row. So that should account for all of them.

Mind you, in areas where there were lots of spiders there's still likely to be a lot of creepy spider-related stuff still around. There's webbing and there are ambient sounds of spiders in the distance. So expect some areas to still be real nasty experiences. Hopefully not insurmountably nasty ones, though.

Oh, and if you folks don't like Deepstalkers, it turns out someone beat me to the punch and made a mod that turns spiders into bears instead. Sadly, they don't have a descend-from-the-ceiling animation. :) http://social.biowar...m/project/1013/

sorry to bump but both the bear and your deepstalker mod replaces the queen?

Don't know about the bear one specifically, but the deepstalker one should. There are only three spider "appearances" in the game; Giant, Poison, and Corrupted. All the variations of spider use one of those three appearances and I replaced all three of them with the deepstalker appearance. I presume the bear mod did the same thing.

Heck, I'm not phobic and I get pretty unsettled whenever one of those spiders hits my PC with its "overwhelm" attack. It's really nasty looking. Nice to have a party member with shield bash handy to smack the thing off of you in those situations.

Heck, I still jump everytime they drop down from the ceiling. Especially the one during the Magi Origin, gets me everytime.

Uff. I've been looking for a simple solution to something for several days. I'm not sure if anyone is still paying attention to this thread, but if you are...

I've never made a Mod, either, but I'm willing to learn. What I'm looking for is very similar to what's been done here, with spiders to deep stalkers except I'd like to swap another creature.

I really would like to trade out the bearskarns (might not have the spelling right on that) with the large brown bear / great bear. I wouldn't it would be too tough because the animation looks the same, so are the sounds. They even look relatively the same size.

So my question is this... HOW do you do this, if someone wouldn't mind telling me - or pointing me to another place to read up? I have found some information through pieces of different tutorials, but am at a real loss.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

If anyone is curious as to why I even care about such a thing, it's kind of silly...

I'm playing a shapeshifter and I liked the black bear form. With your camera set in the usual spot behind, you watch it's fuzzy black butt trundle along in front of you. With Shapeshifter Master, however, it turns into the bearskarn. Which is great for being a little more buff, but now I'm staring at the diseased, crusty, spiked, rather disturbing rump of that thing.

I've found a tutorial on actually adding a new shape and creating an additional shapeshifter mod, but that seemed a bit extreme. Plus, I'd like to stay as close to possible to the real way the game plays out without giving my character extra advantages. Part of the fun for me at the moment is trying out the Shapeshifting to see if a good mix of spells will allow for survival to hack on that meddlesome Archdemon's toenails at the end of the game and bring him down.

Swapping out bearskarns for bears sounded a lot more reasonable...

Am I wrong?

Answered my own question, or close enough. I always make things harder than they are. All I had to do was a tiny edit on the shapechange file then turn it into a GDA for my overwrite folder. I'm not a diseased, mangy monster any more... and happy. :P

I just want to thank you for putting this together. A buddy of mine HATES spiders and won't play the game after I myself was describing the way spiders look in this game (haha). I was looking around for hours on how to use the toolset or something like that and I just stumbled on this thread and you just dropped it in my lap. I realize this is an old thread, but thanks again nonetheless. No one who plays games should go on without playing DA:Origins!
