This is your own opinion.

Personally I think people like you are the reason games are more streamlined, boring and easier these days.

Because I have my own opinion?  I agree.  I'm not a cookie cutter RPG-d00d.  :kissing::kissing::kissing:

Ironically you enjoyed DA2

No no no.  All wrong.  They're gone because they were boring.  You guys can play Suitcase Packer XTREME-RPG.  ME2's inventory is the idea.

Get off my damn lawn..

Get off my damn lawn too. <_<

Have to agree, get rid of the dialogue wheel and the voiced PC...

Thought as i see it... DA3 will have the wheel with only one choice as to not overstrain the target audience. Also easier to get back to the "awesome button" action and exploding bodies

reading some posts here i wonder why some ppl play rpgs instead of fps or watch a movie...

At this point we won't even be able to ask questions, it'll already be part of the scene, and then we'll have the ME2 style of "This button = douche, this button = hope they let me in their pants" responses.

We went from 4 way intersections to a one way street that forks in two differant directions but ultimately leads to the same destination.

Are you insane? That made the roleplaying.
If anything add different options for sound - mark meer's voice kinda grates on me a little.

I love the voiced protagonist, I an more than happy with the dialogue wheel, and I really love the non-interactive cinematics. I felt more attached to Hawke than I did any of my wardens. I found it jarring to be the only one who was silent, and to have a blank, empty face every time the camera chose to look at me. Hawke's got character, and through the innovative way the 'personality' evolves through the choices in dialogue, I feel I have a semblance of control over what that character is.

I hope they keep these aspects for DA3.

I think the reason is that they want to change RPG's in to FPS games.

They don't want to change them INTO FPS games, they just want them to become as simple as the whole, point, click, boom, headshot.

I mean, ME2 geared towards the...well...gears of war group...call it what you will, but it has pretty much the same combat system now. no upgrades, no inventory, 4-5 things to put "skill points' into and the dialogue is pretty much what bridges the gap.

ME2´s problem is that it´s not even a GOOD shooter.
I DO enjoy some shooters, and i would absolutely LOVE if there´d be a shooter with story, dialogue, roleplaying etc....

But ME2 is just not a good one.

You didn't spoil the RPG genre, you were just enjoying a shooter that was mislabeld, that's all...

and for a 42 year old woman you seem very keen on crapping on the history of a genre whos roots began in the 70's, people continue to play RPG's because they haven't swung radicaly in one direction or another in terms of being of a differant identity alltogether...RPGs that Bioware rush out now seem to be suffering an identity crisis, they don't even know what they are anymore, and neither do we.

If you enjoy it, great, more power to you, but if you decide to hold to a stance that sais this should be the wave of the future? then you have declared yourself part of the problem, not the solution. RPG's should be about challenge, whether that be through puzzle solving, navigating dialogue, or even as crazy as trying to figure out a discombobulated user interface or inventory system, then so be it. I enjoy those things and it seems like that is now some sort of 'blast from the past" now, and I'm only 27...but I can remember as far back as when I played games like Betrayal at Krondor and Fallout and Ultima. I felt challenged and felt as if I had accomplished something when I eventually mastered all the mechanics and systems of the game and had things figured out, now the developers have these all figured out for us and so lazily entered into the game where now we're supposed to press a button to make awesome happen, there is no more challenge for the sake of pleasing some idiot on a 360 who got tired of pwning n00bs.

for someone who claims they are as old as they say, you sure don't sound any more mature than alot of the trollers on this board, so congratulations for bringing yourself down to their level. Welcome to the internets.

Pffft. Bored now.

Well, not all of us can be part of the RPG Elite. Wait, is that an oxymoron?

That doesn't make any sense at all.  DAO's lines weren't voiced, so the game never gave you any information about how they were delivered.  As such, you could choose to have them delivered however you wanted.

Exactly.  In DA:O, the *player* chose how the Warden sounded.

DA2 takes that out of the imagination and puts it on a spoon.

To be fed.  To the player.

Well, all I have to say to that is...omnomnomnomnom. More please!

So what you're saying is, you're not playing the game as an act of imagination, you want to be taken along for the story as if you're watching a movie.

I want to participate in the action and influence outcomes, but yeah, I like a cinematic experience. If I lose nerd points because of that, somehow I know that my heart will go on.

Careful with the insults, this thread has developed quite a discussion with alot of valid points and counter points, I would hate to see this thread locked cause of a sucker punch.

You are in no way contributing to the topic, you aren't even being snarky in an entertaining way, you are merely throwing out insults, labeling people, you could simply say "I would rather keep the dialogue wheel and the voiced protagonist because that is what drew me into gaming", you proceeded to follow it with insults and labels and unfortunately for you, that makes you no better than any troll that rolls into this forum and proclaims "EA iz the devil!".

Get off your high horse and keep this on topic and at least somewhat civil, at your age you should be setting an example of that maturity you were talking about.

I wasn't offended or anything. I Know I'm Old. Feel free to make fun of me about it. I'm old enough to not care what people think of me anyway.

But on topic: I think that the evolution of games as seen in games like Mass Effect 1&2 and Dragon Age 2 is a good thing, and I think each new game is an improvement over the last. I think Dragon Age 2's system is better than Mass Effects even, with the icons and with the very different voice acting between the three archetypes. More archetypes would certainly be better, and so would a choice of voice actors or the ability to somehow modulate the voice by raising/lowering the pitch, cadence, etc. But going back to the paradigm of laboriously reading through a wall of text just to silently and abstractly respond to an NPC after a protracted pause? Meh, not a fan.
