my HD died.  I rescued my files including the install for DA2 but its not recorded on the registry.... also it won't let me re-install the game.... how do I fix this?

If I have to manually delete stuff, which files should I save - besides the "characters" file, if any?

Personally, I would try this:

- Move/remove the Dragon Age 2 folder from Program Files.
- Backup your Characters folder from (My) Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\Characters (e.g. move to Desktop).
- Delete the (My) Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\ folder.

After doing that, attempt a clean install of the game from the disk (assuming you have one) or if it was Digital Download you will more than likely have to move/remove the Dragon Age 2 folder from Program Files before it would let you re-download it anyway.

After re-installing move the Characters folder back to (My) Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\

Hope this helps.

Just delete the installation folder. Saves and settings are saved elsewhere. Got the same thing when I reinstalled windows.
