He changes ethnicity. Go make a black character and test it. He was black when I played through it. Black Liam Neeson.originalSabZero wrote...
Well, Fallout 3 does change Dads facial features to be more close to the ones you chose for your character. He does not change ethnicity however. It's still a neat trick and obviously technically possible.

I think it would be a great addition if Bioware could do that for their game.

Genetics tell us that it is possible for white parents to have a black child, as long as somewhere in both family trees were black people. Of course even in our society it may need a paternity test to convince the father of the mother's faithfulness.
I think you have it flipped there my friend... Ever heard of a Punnet Square? Lighter skin would never produce darker skin, it is the opposite that could be true. Light skin is genetically recessive while darker tones are genetically dominant strains. You cannot get a dominant strain from two recessive donors.
Actually this whole arguement is sort of silly. It is a fantasy world and therefore not based on "real world" events. There is very little in common with 12th century Europe in this game other than swords and armor. It would have been nice had Bioware shaded the family members to match the character you roll but I personally have no less fun playing with my brown skinned toon and the paler skinned family in the game. Not that serious....

Seems they went for the whole midevil period as the theme to me. They could probably have incorporated period equivalent would probably be the Moors of Northern Africa, that would probably be a better suggestion than assuming all white people act alike or that your ethnocentrist view of how 'black culture' is(lets face it, Africans in general detest African-American popular culture... those racists..err nm).

If this bothers you so much, then don't play a black character. It doesn't make sense from a story point of view anyway.
Man what is with all the comments implying I should just suck it down and shut up. I've seen dumber feedback on this forum before.

Did you let a crazy person sit at your computer for a little while? When did I ever talk about black culture.Corgun wrote...
OK Pseudo310... "my family to be the whitest white people" seems a pretty racist statement if I ever heard one. Seems to me this is the 1st part of the story where they are in Ferelden which is populated by 1 human race for the most part. I would expect Qunari to be explored in further expansions.

And I'm pretty sure it's not racist to say those people were white. I'm not talking behaviorally. Their skin tone is downright milky. I know goths that would kill for skin that pale.

Btw, having this game changed because of how the races work out means you'll have to change every game out of fairness...

That's because the development time could be spent on fixing bugs and making DLC instead of wasting it on pointless changes, which don't matter to most people.

So far I haven't heard anything about the noble history of my family. Definitely nothing about how their proud white heritage is integral to their back story which doesn't even come up after the intro. Nah, I think them being white when my character is black is stupider.Xeiru wrote...
Bioware created the noble families to have a history, changing the skin tone and then just ignoring the fact that they are the only black noble family in ferelden without any explanation would be far more stupid.

'Pointless' is relative. I told you the point. Whether you think the point is worthwhile is up to you, but I do. So I'm giving Bioware feedback.deathwing200 wrote...

And you're the minority with your opinion. Just because you cry the loudest, doesn't mean Bio should cater to your whims. You have mummy for that.

So then you think it would be natural in a game where no noble family seems to have a single black member, on a continent with seemingly no black people, for there to be a random noble family of black people with no explanation to why or how?
Yeah, you're right. That makes complete sense.
Let me put this in perspective. I decide to roll a dwarf character, but through some glitch I pick the elf origin story. Should I get to then complain that my parents are elves? From a history of elves? In a society of elves?
No, that would be stupid. The story was set up for elves, and I purposely picked a dwarf, who very obviously didn't belong in that setting. Bioware shouldn't and wouldn't be expected to change my single family into the one family of dwarves in a country/town/city of elves.
Same thing, different words.

Will you please keep the race card in your wallet and save it for when you actually need it? I mean honestly, pulling it over your video game parents?
Playing the "race card" for some people means reminding them that black people actually exist.
You want to be a black character, thats fine, roll one into a history that makes more sense, or don't complain when you do something that doesn't.
Translation: Get to the back of the bus and STFU. Accept our "separate but equal" solution and stop complaining.

Oh yay, now I get to be called a racist for pointing out that a black person is acting like an idiot.
Its not racist to call a spade a spade.

They aren't actualy white people, they are a string of code generated in such a manner that they come out to be a depiction of a humanoid figure that happens to have a creamy colored pallete, I think civil rights has more "important" things to do than attack video games.
Video Games fall under artistic expression and are protected under Bioware's rights as a developer, you want to change art because it doesn't conform to your views? Then you, my friend, belong with the Nahtzee party.

Who gives a **** if there is ONE black noble family? Who cares if this is realistic? We're talking about a players ENJOYMENT which is the sole purpose of a game. Not to mention that THERE ARE DRAGONS AND MAGIC in this game. If you ask me, the realism argument went out the window a long time ago.
If they put the black character = black family thing in, and your racist self doesn't like it, don't put the slider over to the black skin color.
This solves both problems, you racists are happy that black nobles don't exist in your white Ferelden and those that wish to play a black player can do so without this stupid oversight.
