Nobody is upset.  The OP was making jokes, I was making jokes, and Xeiru thinks is doing that thing that 14 year olds do when they discover the Internet, where they say something stupid and then claim to be the troll puppetmaster when people get riled up.

Just another day on the Internet.

Also this is priceless. I've been reduced from a bigot, to a trolling 14 year old, all so Malkut here can act like hes not upset and I am.

If other people are getting riled up its not really a concern of mine. The people i've been arguing with here have by and large been making silly and absurd requests and accusations. If they get upset when someone points out why they are being silly and absurd perhaps they should think more before they post?

Any arguements that "yeah but black humans are not native to Fereldan" are trumped by the fact that this is fiction and the writers can craft any lore they want...

Unless that lore doesn't include a family of black nobles. Because that would be racist and require a 5+ page long thread of whining.

The finer points of this whole chain can be summed up in this....  If you roll a toon then your parents should match... period.  I don't care if that means you roll a white, black, asian etc etc etc toon then the parents should damn well match.

Feel free to go make a game, with your own malleable lore where race, nationality and creed are utterly irrelevant and the game can be changed completely to suit the will of the player.

This is obviously not that game.

Why should he get different treatment because he chose to roll a black guy into a white noble family?

Tanned white male.

Fiction doesn't have to be equal opportunity. This particular origin story revolves around white folks. Deal.

This. This very very much.

Why don't someone go make some post about there's no Middle-eastern, Indian, or East Asian ethnic groups in the game as well?

Hell, I'm Asian and I'm enjoying the game just fine. Sure, the addition might be kind of nice. BUT IS IT REALLY ALL THAT IMPORTANT?

I agree. We need an origin about the NBA and Popeye's chicken to equal it out. Then we can put spinners on our horses.

Maybe you should create a toon which matches your parents rather than expect your parents to match your toon? xD

I did the same thing as the OP, created black guy, and the rest of the family looked NOTHING like him. Eye color different, hair, nose, face cheekbones. It's not huge but it stands out when you are trying to establish a connection.

It did little to reduce my enjoyment though.

What did reduce my enjoyment was the content of this thread. Half the people who talked so much smack would never in their life say that to anyone face in real life. Which should tell you right there that they know it's wrong.

I'm gonna assume I'm part of that half and say that if the black people I associated myself with in real life whined over something this stupid, and then tried to compare this percived slight to segregation I'd feel completely justified in saying everything I said in this thread.

Stupid is stupid folks. Being black and stupid doesn't make you immune to being called a moron by a white guy.

Some people just need to learn to take a joke and understand that racism really isnt a big deal. Plus, sterotypes are entertaining. Do you not like to be entertained? I like to be entertained!

What a ridiculous thread. There's no reason there would be black people in a medieval England style country. I'm glad they didn't impose today's politically correct obsession on this game world.

Yeah I had been thinking about this too, and also if you make your character look older than your father with gray hair is really funny. I'm sure most of you have the pc version of the game because on my pic my character doesn't have the armor I have on the game and I don't know if it has anything to do that I'm playing it on my 360.

Don't look now, heres another person who realizes games don't have to bend lore to suit real life ideals of racial equality.

The people who wanted to make CJ white are just as retarded as the people who want to make the noble family in Dragon Age black.

See I'm not racist? I think people can be dumb no matter their colour or orientation

EXACTLY!!!!
When the expansion into Qunari lands comes out and we find all the Qunari are black I will make sure to post a rant here about it just so the idiotic complaints can come full circle.

Lots of internet-tough-guy-closet-racists in this thread. I can't blame anyone; I'm a racist too.

Sten isn't black, however there are comparisons that people can find between African Culture (Medieval/Ancient eras) and Qunari Culture.

I think you have it flipped there my friend... Ever heard of a Punnet Square? Lighter skin would never produce darker skin, it is the opposite that could be true. Light skin is genetically recessive while darker tones are genetically dominant strains. You cannot get a dominant strain from two recessive donors.

Bzzzt.

Skin tone is not a Mendelian trait. Dark skin is not "On" or "Off" like having 6 fingers or a hitchiker's thumb. Melanin is a shared-dominance trait that can produce an incredibly wide variety of skin tones depending on the parents.

As long as someone in the last 3-4 generations was lighter-skinned, the chances of having a light-skinned child is there (in fact, books have been written about them). The chances of having a VERY light-skinned child is about 1 in 64. Well, actually, there's still a chance that a black child could appear white without any mixed ancestry, along with having wild red hair, too. It's just incredibly small.

The reverse is true. As long as the gene is still present, "white" parents with some mixed ancestry have a % chance that you will have a very dark-skinned child.

Genetics FTW. :)

Hey Bioware, I have some quick feedback for you. I made a black human noble character. His whole family was white. The whole kingdom was white. That is just silly. Could you do some palette-swapping or something to make the characters who are only in the game's intro consistent with your skin tone? I realize the "no black people in Ferelden" conversation has already been done, but unless there is a reveal that my character was adopted it's jarring and dumb for my family to be the whitest white people. It was done in Fallout 3 and I really appreciated it then. It's a nice acknowledgment that not everyone playing these games is white.

Thanks.

Imagine how I must have felt when playing San Andreas. Such discussions are pointless.

Actually now that I think about it, I'd compare the Qunari culture to ancient Hindu/Indian (country of India - for those less informed) culture than Ancient/Medieval African Societies.
