Whoever designed the Champion Armor...

On topic, I did like the Champion armors, they were all cool. The clawed gloves were a bit silly, but so was Fenris' armor.

BTW, i do like the new chantry robe look, though they look as if the they're wearing leather jackets.

As a Mage, anyone else keep the Mercenary armor until Act II where they could get the Pirate armor just so they didn't have to wear robes? I'm doing that playing on Hard and so far, great decision. My Mage actually looks like an Apostate and not some drab Circle Mage.
You summed up my mage playthrough near exactly.
Yep. Not a big fan on the robes.

I saved a fortune of money to buy a top level mage dress and it was exactly the same design and colour of another dress my mage had been wearing during the game.
I love the emporium and being able to customise Hawkes look any time I wanted, so thanks so much Bioware!! But I didnt like the champion ugly spikey furry dead animal armours and I didnt like the lack of different choices for armours for my mage and rogues. Oh and those ghastly and oh so grungy chantry armours for mages? That's just ridiculous and wrong!
So thumbs down from me for armours in this game. Only one mage dress and a couple of rogues outfits I really like. Please God the modders will come up with some pretty dresses and outfits for my replays.

The neckguard is kinda silly, and it's messing up nearly everyone's DA2 warrior profile pic.nicethugbert wrote...
Champion armor looks NEAT! But, this is DA2 so we must bash it because we got taste now and we're no longer taking this anymore even though we glorify all the old games that had comparable armor. DA2 = Red Headed Step Child so we must beat it every chance we get because because.
Yeah, just look at the realistic armor designs in Baldur's Gate! My favourite. Imho BioWare should just return to the old ways!
That bores me.

I forgot to mention in my earlier posts how much I absolutely HATE the warrior helmet.
What the hell is it supposed to do? Be a plate-mail baseball cap? Why does nothing cover Hawke's face?!

No thanks, I prefer the armors in DA:O.
Pretty much. I like the simpler, more functional armor rather than having a bunch of spiky plates bolted on and claw gloves.
I think the initial outfits for Hawke in the beginning look much better than the champion armor.
Mage robes (like Orsino's) and the new Chantry robes are decent improvements though.

This is the same problem that goes for the robes in Dragon Age -- I feel -- most of them are really plain and boring. Mages robes can look awesome, but most robes in DA look like normal robes.
Neither the robes from any DA game nor the armour from DAO looks bad, imho, they do however look -- functional is the best i can say about them in terms of looks, realistic i suppose works too.
The new armour styles in DA2 -- with the exclusion from some of the mage robes -- look more unique and personal and I like that. This is also why I personally like the companion armor, what they wear speaks of who they are and adds to their personality.
So all in all I prefer the new heraldic/"anime" armour of DA2 personaly -- keep up the good work

As for the rogue armor claw gloves would actually be useful to a rogue in that they wouldn't need to draw a weapon from it sheath in order to kill someone quietly. They are like hidden blades hidden in plain sight. As for it looking like heavier armor than a rogue should wear that just shows off the skill of Hawke by that time.
The mage armor looks a lot better than most other robes you can get, and besides it's mage armor. If you have any questions about mage armor I would suggest you look up the old WoW video "Big Blue Dress". It sums up mage armor for all RP games.

I liked the DA2 more because it had more "character". They looked less uniform, with some cloth, leather, chain and plate parts mixed together.
Yes ... it was very much "Hawke's" armour. Hell, now the equipment is reminding me I am not playing my own character. Perhaps I should just give up the quest for individuality and accept his default mug. Goes better with his default armour.

Yeah, & hey, could we also ask them to take a gander at armor smithing books too? Cause I hate the over the top anime armor I'm forced to wear i.e. the Champion Armor.
The flashy over-the-top action and anime style are some of my biggest complaints with the game.
It's just...silly like I said earlier. The armor in Origins was kinda over-the-top, too, but it wasn't spikes and sharpness everywhere.
Seriously, Hawke doesn't need claw-gloves.
It's funny when WRPG fans complain about elements of WRPGs by comparing them to anime (while still suggesting a familiarity with anime design ethics by comparing elements of the game in question to it.) It's like "anime" is a curse word or the ultimate insult among WRPG players.

Agreed
Everything went towards anime style in DA2, I miss the more realistic "dark fantasy" that was DA:O.
Nothing wrong with anime (love it), I just don't want DA to be anime.

The design was allright, but I really disliked that weird neck guard, placed on the chest. Does iteven serve any purpose?
Reposting this from one certain thread:
Do a bit of research on medieval armor and you will find a similar "feeding trough" in some armors. It seems to have been made like that to protect the warrior's neck yet giving them space for movement. The Champion armor design is probably derived from that.
Take that piece of metal out and it will just look boring. It gives it a certain edge. IMO.
Armor with those metal pieces where never used for combat, why cause they would get in the way all the time. They only used them for jousting. Thats a reason I think thats stupid to put them on armor for fighting, hawke never goes jousting ever.
