Have you considered where the logical endpoint of that thinking is? Since there is magic there is no need to conform to realism at all.

I highlighted the key words you need to pay attention to in your own statement. Now say them together and tell me if that makes senses.

Logic and magic cannot go together?  Have you even read the sodding codex in origins?

the warrior's champion armor looks good, but the mage's version should have been called the peasant armor, I refuse to wear it. It's the worse looking armor in the game, excepting those things you begin with. Overall mage robes look much better than in Origins, it's a shame that the most "iconic" armor in the game is the one that makes you look like some sort of vagabond.

By the way, regarding the first post of the thread, no Balmain glam trash in my Dragon Age, thanks. Though it could have worked as one of Varric's exaggerations, Hawke enters the battle in a golden suit with white boots and then Wade says, fierce!

I'll weigh in on this topic:

I'm not a big fan of the spikey, anime style that they used for the Champion armor. I realize some folks are, but it just looks silly to me.
Honestly, I prefer to mod and use the Stonehammer set. It makes my male warrior Hawke look "bulkier".

More choices are always better.

I don't mind the looks of the armors.

Rogue Champion I loved its look.

Mage Champion looked decent. Didn't mind wearing it.

Warrior Champion seemed a bit odd to wear. It's my least favorite of the three.

I liked the overall look, particularly loved the Rogue Champion armor, but what I did not liked was that it seemed to follow a darkspawn design pattern, shoudn't the armor of the CHAMPION of kirkwall would be more detailed and artistic?

Personally, I thought the Champion armors were ok - though honestly some of the other armour sets you get throughout the game look much better in my opinion.

My favourites were:

Warrior - Fallen Set
Rogue - Last Descent Set
Mage - Overseer Set

Or in other words, all the first unique item sets :P

Logic can be applied to anything, magic is not immune. Applying the same logic to a fantasy world as you would our world however might not work to your advantage.

As such logic can be applied to how you construct armour in a fantasy world. Things like deflecting blows is a nice thing to think about when you design armour. Though we have to remember it is a fantasy world which means the material restrictions of our world might not apply. There might be a metal that is lighter and sturdier then anything we have here. A good example of this in fantasy is Mithril. If we then have this fantastic material we can get the same protection (or more) for less weight or even more protection for the same weight. This also means that restrictions on how you can put together your armour is not the same as in our world.

Now lets add magic into the mix -- Do you want armour that offers protection against magic? Well then the requierments might not be the same as your normal sword deflecting armour.

Lets add psychological warfare into that and you might for for something more outlandish to demoralize your opponents.

Want that armour to be both battle ready and represent your station?

You all get the idea. Some people would go for the straight up functional melee armour others might go for a mix or favour another attribute. The point I'm trying to make is that armour crafting might not have the same restrictions as they had in our world and that the needs might also differ.

All that said the Mage Champion's armour was my favorite in the game -- to bad only mages can use it.

I loved the champion's armor, especially mage, didn't give the stereotypical mage in robes look yet it looked like it fit really well. I just want to thank whoever made mage armor sets overall. Spiral eye is one of the best looking robes i've seen in a long time.

the one major thing I found bad about most armor was the weird spit bucket on their chests covering the PC face at times or the weird angled spikes jutting out in 3 places on one particular set.. My b/f says the bucket thing was used in jousting matches altho they were larger in size than the champ mage a rmor version, to cause the lance to slide up over the target rather t han thru the chest etc.
I found most of the armor ugly and i liked the mage armor except for the spit thing... I hated the robes tho.... just as bad as the circle robes *shudders* they shoulda mb looked at the cool stuff the modders developed for fresh ideas teehee.

Armor does one thing; Protect. All you have to do to make it protect you magically is throw some lyrium on it & viola it can be enchanted to protect you from magic or the elements & such. You're argument is invalid.

the champions armors from the three classes are awesome ,DA:O armors was lame and old fashy especialy the rogues ones...all the exact same pathetic looking just with diff colors and stats...i just liked the juggernaut armor and the black armor u get from DA:A was fine for the timeline DA:O, all the rest was awfull...beside 10 years has past everything evolves same for the armors (except zevran it seems lol he got the exact same armor from DA:O wtb wardrobe) if u like the old awfull armors then talk to bioware and tell them to make a prequel dragon age game...where mens was wearing just underpants and sandals if thats what u like...

Champion armor sets were alright. I just didn't like the fact that it said silverite and the metal pieces looked mostlty like iron (color wise) and a bit ragtagged; didn't reflect status. Besides that it was good, unique.

I like the designs of the Champion Armor as well. It makes Hawke stand out, which was the idea. If he wore generic armor, he'd look just that; Generic.

Realistic armor? In a world with Ogres, Magic, Elves, Dwarves and Darkspawn?

I have never figured what this means. Why realism is not possible, with ogres, magic, dwarves ad darkspawn?

Many people in our real life, believes God, what is totally unrealistic. Does it mean our reality can't have anything realistic  because of it? Point here is just because some "virtual" reality has different rules how the nature behaves, doesn't mean there isn't any reason to follow realiasm as logical conclusions of that reality. Most the time realism comes from practicality as what does work well and what doesn't. Meaning there is reason why car weels are round and not square. So, is about many things related armors.

Yeah, in our history people really did believe in mythical creatures that could kill you at a glance, they still wore proper armor.

Mage Champion armor is freakin awesome looking.

Didn't look like something a 'champion' would wear. Just looked like hedge mage/apostate armor cobbling together pieces of armor from various Templars he'd killed.

hint hint.

Origins was awesome because it was a realistic, gritty, mature fantasy world. The armor was realistic because you needed to believe it would be used by real people. Just because there is magic doesn't mean everything else in the whole world needs to be dramatically removed from reality.

In fact, it's that pseudo-logic that led to the departure from the good art style in Origins to the silly-ass unrealistic, darkspawn-ruining, jRPG-hair-having, armor-too-spikey abomination of an art style that DA2 calls its own.

Origins had the worst of both worlds : unrealistic and bland. Then they decided to make it worse by making pieces purple, or bright red, or lime green and encouraging you to mismatch them...

I think Cassandra's armour is the best looking armour in the game.
Is it possible to get this armour for the PC? Or do you have to mod it in?
