If you transferred over a dalish warden save who returned to their clan, how does DA2 explain his/her absense for 7 years?

Anders can mention to Merrill that the Warden values their privacy.

A lot is probably left to the imagination/personal preference- my Amell has never gone back to the Circle because she's Chancellor, another Warden might be on Warden business, still another might be ruling Gwaren, or helping big brother Fergus out, etc. Too many possibilities- the Dalish elf can be doing a number of things, no reason to spell it out- or for Bioware to show their hand.

One of my Dalish stayed away because they're still mad about being essentially booted out. The others probably went "Wait, they went where? Screw that."

Heh, my Dalish Warden went with Morrigon through the Eluvian. So no explanation of his disappearance was needed :P

Dalish Warden: "Hey guys I just came back from my 7 year constitutional and.."

*views the scene of carnage after Hawke and Merril are attacked by the whole clan*

Dalish Warden: "WAT"

In comes my Dalish Warden

"When did Ilen and Pivel become complete douchewaffles?"

He learned that one from Ogren.

They didn't return to their clan, but were forced to become Warden Commander by the Plot God - also known as Flemeth.

I think even if you said you returned to your clan, you end up getting stuck being the warden commander. I imagine it goes like this:

Post coronation, you go back to your clan with what's her name.
6 months later, what's her name who died in the Joining comes and takes you back to Amaranthine to be the Warden Commander.

They never let you leave, other than the occasional visit to Denerim. You begin to rue the day you became a Grey Warden.

At least that's how envision it with my Dalish Warden (minus the fact that she never visited her clan). Besides, you also COULD have stopped by and said Hi sometime during the 3 year times skips.

Bioware's game police pulled over your Dalish Warden and coldly told him (or her) that he wasn't permitted to return to his clan after all. Now move your lazy butt up to Vigil's Keep.

Heck, apparently any Warden is subject to being the Warden Commander. Even if they're King/Queen, or out trying to find Morrigan, returning to their clan, becoming a Paragon, etc.

Your warden started to return to the clan. He got to the edge of the clearing where they were camped, then saw those new elf ears.

He then ran back to Denerim, begging for a posting in a City someplace, screaming and muttering about goats taking his ears . . . .

My understanding is that the epilogues were not cannon. They were there to provide some closure if they never got to make a Dragon Age game or the player never played another. They're only considered a rumor about what happened to the warden.

Yeah, apparently they never returned to the clan even if you said that you would. Merrill still only hears stories of him or her.

Maybe the Dalish Warden returned to tell Merethari about the Dalish lands and quickly left to become Warden Commander while Merrill was out getting groceries or something?

Well, during post Coronation, that one older elf woman is there (the one who treats the PC like a son/daughter) from the clan and is looking forward to having a permanent home in the elves 'new' lands. And I can't for the life of me recall if she is in Sundermount when Hawke encounters them or not, though everyone else appears to be, even Pol.
So only some of the Dalish must have settled in the new lands. I do find it strange that Keeper Marethari is at the Dalish Hero's funeral yet in Sundermount (where they went to escape the Blight HUH?). So, yea. Lot of confusion for me on Dalish imports...

Really? Because mine are shouting 'Hallejuah!' over finally having elven ears - the knife-ears insults lose their meaning when the elf wardens all have tiny ears that can fairly easily pass for human ears.

It may have something to do with staying put in Ferelden, and/or having a romantic relationship with Lil; a good ideas at the time....
