Thats a really insensitive thing to say, I think you are blaming the victim here.  I blame the Chantry for failing to research a cure for the taint, they've had four ages to get cracking on this and all they have done is waste their budget on defense spending and wars of invasion. Lets face facts, we have mage's who have the potential to walk into heaven and ****** off God, I think with the proper resources they could cleanse the taint in about ten minitues.

I'm confused. Are you replying to what I said? Because I was just stating some facts. The taint turns people into ghouls. Grey Wardens go through the Joining and consume the taint as well as other stuff to become Grey Wardens. They are tainted, but the effects take much longer to appear. For a regular person they die within a few days, a Warden who goes through the Joining on the other hand still has a few decades left to live.

My memory must be bad..I don't remember two of them...unless you were referring to the two G's (for attempting to not spoil) and M and F... ?

But in those cases neither got the taint from the otehr.

You're likely forgetting the Tower, before the Deep Roads, with D being caught by G and much embarassment ensuing.  Though, technically, I don't know that we can tell anything from these two events.  D's fling, I don't think she ever shows up in the story again, and the other, he had potions to protect him.

To MOST normal people that get tained, the taint manifests itself as a "Waisting Sickness". Gaider has described it as a horrible way to die. You just fade away. Turning into a ghoul, from what I've read, is less likely to happen than that.
So, if the taint IS transmittable through intercourse, I would say the reciepient would be more likely to waste away and die after a few years.

Presumably though as drinking the Darkspawn blood results in a weakened form of the taint in the Wardens, then the actual infection would be even weaker still reulting in little or no effect to the other party.



The disease may be explained by another mechanism altogether, this is after all a world where magic prevails so our logic may not necessarily apply.
