Pretty much. They also mention that he was the one who trained Bethany and Hawke (if applicable) which probably explains their M1 Abrams-like plot armor against demonic possession.

Would also explain how they learned to be apostates and live right next to a Templar central without ever attracting their attention unless their name is Wesley.

The line seems likely to die with those 3 kids though. : ( Twins are dead and dead/Circle/Templar/Grey Warden. Grey Wardens have serious trouble having children so if that's what happened to Carver/Bethany then it looks grim for them. A Hawke paired with Anders would have the same problem. Plus Hawke is now god knows where and doesn't seem to be in a situation that's conducive to having children.

The only salvation for the line is elf-blood babies with Fenris!

Who knows. All we hear in game is Leandra saying he died 3 years before the attack on Lothering, and Bethany saying he died in the Blight.
As Sten would say, one of these things cannot be true.
Or he had a vision of the blight and decided to commit suicide when no one believed him.
Or was killed by the Templar who hates having headaches, by yelling and screaming like a certain chasind.

Then he abandoned his slave name of Malcolm Hawke and adopted his true name as Kolgrim.

Malcolm Hawke was so intense and so charismatic that he faked his death and went to the Frostback Mountains. Where he came across a small peaceful village. In the course of a single year Malcolm transformed that village of Haven into fanatics of a new religion and brainwashed them to think it had been like this forever.
Then he abandoned his slave name of Malcolm Hawke and adopted his true name as Kolgrim.

I thought it was Malcom who mated with the high dragon, hence the babies.
