suicidal baby, i've tested your build, but i've respec my caracter to duelist/assassin. now i want to capitalize on stagger AND brittle, for both vendetta and assassinate on elite.

here are my tactics, i used a modified version of your build that you posted a my request, i have modified it to better suit my playstyle (wich is assasin/duelist).

i hope you can help me optimized this mess.

note : if it's possible i'd like to use rally when elite are brittle and when they are stagger.

thank in advance.

self health=>75% martyr

so, these are my tactics, hope that you can help me for optimizing my tactics. in fact, these are tactics that i pick up from arelex guides, mixed them together and them modified a little.

the goal is to be capable to capitalize on a brittle elite with assasinate, and to be able capitalize on a staggered without wasted the brittle status on the other elite. if you have readed my aveline's tactics, i'd like to make use of the rally/upgraded might combos when i capitalize of a stagger and when i capitalize on a brittle without wasting them. it's a huge task, and i've never being able to complete it (aveline always stagger the the elite that is brittle =()

edit : i forget to tell you, all the spell in the tactics are upgraded

I still do not like Body Guard, besides your Battle synergy already does this function.  You're better off getting Elemental Aegis in order to make it easier to keep everyone resistant during Rally.

IMO: too many sustained abilities.  Keep it at 3 or less, with what is visable in my tactics you are running with 75%.  Considering the level of stamina you have at lvl 50, this should be enough.

Not sure I like Battle Synergy either.  Better off just upgrading Taunt and running Shield Defense 24/7 if you want damage mitigation.  You should be using your rogue to Armistice anyone attacking Anders or Merrill, while using Back-to-back + Invisible Friend on Hawke to clear threat by invisibility and remove from the area:

Enemy: attacking Hawke: uccfnt
Anders: any: Back-to-Back

Can't say I like any of the builds in this.  A serious lack of synergy.

Hey, Suicidal.

I just wanted to thank you once again for all the efforts you have put into these lessons.  I have learned a lot from them and continue to use them in my game.  It has been a while since I voiced my gratitude, but I do want you to know your work is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for this thread SuicidalBaby, it was very informative. I didn't copy your builds/tactics, but it helped a great deal to get in the right mindset to make my own. My first play-through was with a shield-tank Hawke and the game practically played itself with well-written tactics, very little pausing and micromanagement of the companions ;)

suicidal baby, i've read that you think my build have a bad party sinergy, so, i am asking what should i do to have battle synergy with aveline, considering that i always play with 1 rogue, 1 warrior and 2 mage (the warrior being aveline, and the rogue being hawke). what i've want to reach is to set my mage to exploit the stagger, while my hawke exploit brittle and from time to time, a stagger on a elite.

and i don't plan on using armistice, i don't like babysiting my character, but i like the assassin/duelist rogue build, from arelex, and using a second rogue for using armistice on aveline, will somewhat break my "stagger & Brittle" setup. i also plan on using walking bomb. i've had an ideas to switch aveline to a rogue, but without the shadow specialisation, the "obscuring bot" does like, lost its function.

so, what should i do to have better party synergy without sacrifing my stagger & brittle setup ?

any tactics you suggest to me, or any improvement in my current tactics (it should be the same, except that on my 2 mage, i using this :

hawke:health =>75%
ennemy:target of hawke: walking bomb)

will be really appreciate.

thanks in advance.

So, I don't know if anyone still checks these forums, but on the off-chance they do, here I go.

I'm getting ready to replay DA2, tackling Nightmare for the first time. I've done my homework (thanks, SuicidalBaby and AreleX!) and pulled together what I hope is a complete and error-free set of tactics for every character. Since I won't get to play until this weekend, I figured I'd toss them out into the BSN and see if any eyes more experienced than mine could find flaw with them. Most are pulled from the guides of others, but I've made several adjustments -- sometimes for clarity, sometimes for consistency, sometimes because they appeared to be wrong -- and wouldn't mind a confirmation that everything's going to fly.

If y'all have a minute, let me know what you think. If not, thanks all the same (seriously; just reading the discussions has been tremendously helpful).

Hawke
My goal with Hawke was to do the bare minimum required to keep him alive and useful. To that end, his tactics manage the interplay between healing-received and Blood Magic, deal a little bit of damage, and put up some basic buffs. I'll handle the rest (Force Mage abilities, Blood Slave bombs, etc.) manually.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <50%: deactivate: Blood Magic
2. self: HP: <50%: use item: Health Poultice
3. enemy: attacking WARRIOR: Winter's Grasp
4. enemy: elite or higher: Winter's Grasp
5. enemy: nearest visible: activate: Summon Mabari
6. self: HP: <%75: use current condition for next tactic
7. WARRIOR: HP: >75%: Sacrifice
8. self: HP: >75%: activate: Blood Magic
9. enemy: status: STAGGERED: Hemorrhage
10. enemy: clustered with 3 enemies: Fireball
11. enemy: medium to long range: Firestorm
12. self: any: activate: Rock Armor
13. self: any: activate: Elemental Weapons
14. self: HP: <50%: use current condition for next tactic
15. self: MP: <10%: use item: Lyrium Potion
16. self: at least 1 enemy alive: skip tactics
17. self: any: deactivate: Summon Mabari

Carver
Carver's based on AreleX's Fenris with the passive DR of Lyrium Ghost substituted for the active DR of Silence and Holy Smite.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <25%: use item: Health Poultice
2. self: surrounded by 3 enemies: Taunt
3. enemy: status: paralyzed: use current condition for next tactic
4. enemy: elite or higher: Rally
5. enemy: status: DISORIENTED: Rally
6. enemy: short range: Cleave
7. self: MP: <25%: Second Wind
8. self: MP: <10%: Bolster
9. self: any: activate: Might
10. self: any: activate: Elemental Aegis
11. enemy: elite or higher: Silence
12. enemy: nearest mage: Holy Smite
13. enemy: attacking Hawke: attack
14. self: at least 1 enemy alive: skip tactics
15. self: any: deactivate: Might
16. self: any: deactivate: Elemental Aegis

Aveline
Aveline tosses out a taunt, puts up some defenses, occupies herself during status effects, and runs some buffs. Basic warrior stuff.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <25%: use item: Health Poultice
2. self: any: Elemental Aegis
3. self: HP: <75%: activate: Shield Defense
4. self: surrounded by 3 enemies: Taunt
5. enemy: status: paralyzed: Rally
6. enemy: status: DISORIENTED: Rally
7. enemy: short range: Cleave
8. enemy: elite or higher: Shield Bash
9. self: surrounded by 3 enemies: use current condition for next tactic
10. enemy: normal or higher: Shield Bash
11. self: any: Might
12. self: any: Bravery
13. self: MP: <25%: Bolster
14. self: HP: >=75%: deactivate: Shield Defense
15. self: at least 1 enemy alive: skip tactics
16. self: any: deactivate: Elemental Aegis
17. self: any: deactivate: Might
18. self: any: deactivate: Bravery

Varric
I pulled Varric almost wholly from AreleX's guide, but I bumped BRITTLE > Bursting Arrow above the paralyze > Fatiguing Fog to prevent the latter from blocking the former. I also shut down his sustains at the end of the fight to free up stamina for the next bout.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <10%: use item: Health Poultice
2. self: MP: <10%: use item: Stamina Draught
3. enemy: status: BRITTLE: use current condition for next tactic
4. enemy: elite or higher: Archer's Lance
5. enemy: status: BRITTLE: Bursting Arrow
6. enemy: status: paralyzed: use current condition for next tactic
7. enemy: target of MAGE: Fatiguing Fog
8. enemy: HP: <25%: use current condition for next tactic
9. enemy: elite or higher: Pinning Shot
10. enemy: elite or higher: Brand
11. enemy: attacking MAGE: Kickback
12. enemy: short range: Rush
13. self: any: activate: Bianca's Song
14. self: any: activate: Precision
15. enemy: attacking MAGE: attack
16. enemy: using melee or ranged attack: attack
17. self: at least 1 enemy alive: skip tactics
18. self: any: deactivate: Bianca's Song
19. self: any: deactivate: Precision

Anders
Anders was also taken whole-cloth from AreleX's build, though I did remove the enemy using melee or ranged attack > attack that preceded >=75% HP > Martyr, because it looked like it would all but prevent Martyr from ever firing. Maybe I missed something there.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <50%: deactivate: Vengeance
2. self: HP: <25%: Health Poultice
3. self: MP: <10%: Lyrium Potion
4. enemy: status: DISORIENTED: Walking Bomb
5. enemy: status: DISORIENTED: Glyph of Paralysis
6. ROGUE: HP: <25%: Heal
7. MAGE: HP: <10%: Heal
8. self: at least 1 enemy alive: Haste
9. enemy: status: DISORIENTED: use current condition for next tactic
10. enemy: target of Anders: Spirit Bolt
11. enemy: elite or higher: Winter's Grasp
12. enemy: clustered with 3 enemies: Fireball
13. enemy: medium to long range: Firestorm
14. enemy: using melee or ranged attack: Spirit Bolt
15. self: HP: >=50%: activate: Vengeance
16. self: any: activate: Heroic Aura
17. self: HP: >=75%: Martyr
18. self: at least 1 enemy alive: skip tactics
19. self: any: deactivate: Heroic Aura

Isabela
Isabela roams the battlefield, dealing DPS and directing threat. She combines these two roles into a kind of enforcer, keeping things from getting away from the tank.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <25%: use item: Health Poultice
2. enemy: attacking Isabela: use current condition for next tactic
3. WARRIOR: any: Back-to-Back
4. enemy: status: STAGGERED: use current condition for next tactic
5. enemy: elite or higher: Explosive Strike
6. enemy: elite or higher: Twin Fangs
7. enemy: attacking Hawke: Backstab
8. enemy: attacking MAGE: Backstab
9. self: attacked by melee or ranged: use current condition for next tactic
10. WARRIOR: any: Goad
11. self: surrounded by 4 enemies: All Hands on Deck
12. Hawke: attacked by melee: Armistice
13. MAGE: attacked by melee: Armistice
14. self: attacked by melee or ranged: activate: Savvy
15. self: MP: <10%: use item: Stamina Draught
16. enemy: attacking Hawke: Attack
17. enemy: attacking MAGE: Attack
18. enemy: attacking WARRIOR: Attack
19. self: at least 1 enemy alive: skip tactics
20. self: any: deactivate: Savvy

Merrill
Almost utterly unchanged from AreleX's version. I just included her for completion's sake.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <50%: deactivate: Blood of the First
2. self: HP: <25%: use item: Health Poultice
3. enemy: target of Hawke: use current condition for next tactic
4. enemy: elite or higher: Hex of Torment
5. enemy: attacking MAGE: Ensnare
6. enemy: clustered with 3 enemies: Wounds of the Past
7. enemy: elite or higher: Winter's Grasp
8. enemy: clustered with 3 enemies: Chain Lightning
9. enemy: using melee or ranged attack: Stonefist
10. enemy: clustered with 3 enemies: Fireball
11. enemy: short to medium range: Tempest
12. enemy: medium to long range: Firestorm
13. self: HP: >=50%: activate: Blood of the First
14. self: any: activate: Wrath of the Elvhen
15. self: any: activate: Rock Armor
16. self: any: activate: Elemental Weapons
17. self: HP: >=50%: skip tactics
18. self: MP: <10%: use item: Lyrium Potion
19. enemy: using melee attack: attack

Fenris
Fenris does more warrior things -- tanking, buffing, and DPSing.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <25%: use item: Health Poultice
2. self: surrounded by 3 enemies: Taunt
3. enemy: status: paralyzed: use current condition for next tactic
4. enemy: elite or higher: Rally
5. enemy: status: DISORIENTED: Rally
6. enemy: short range: Cleave
7. self: MP: <25%: Second Wind
8. self: MP: <10%: Bolster
9. self: any: activate: Might
10. self: any: activate: Elemental Aegis
11. self: HP: >=75%: deactivate: Lyrium Ghost
12. self: HP: <50%: activate: Lyrium Ghost
13. enemy: attacking MAGE: attack
14. self: at least 1 enemy alive: skip tactics
15. self: any: deactivate: Might
16. self: any: deactivate: Elemental Aegis

Sebastian
Sebastian works similarly to Isabela, only instead of DPSing down anything that breaks away from the tank, he neutralizes enemies with status effects.

Tactics
1. self: HP: <25%: use item: Health Poultice
2. enemy: attacking Sebastian: Guardian Angel
3. enemy: attacking Sebastian: use current condition for next tactic
4. MAGE: any: Back-to-Back
5. WARRIOR: attacked by melee: Fatiguing Fog
6. MAGE: attacked by melee: Armistice
7. Hawke: attacked by melee: Armistice
8. enemy: elite or higher: Wounding Arrow
9. WARRIOR: attacked by melee: Miasmic Flask
10. self: MP: <90%: activate: Speed
11. MAGE: attacked by melee or ranged: jump to 14
12. Hawke: attacked by melee or ranged: use current condition for next tactic
13. WARRIOR: any: Goad
14. self: MP: <10%: use item: Stamina Draught
15. self: at least 1 enemy is alive: skip tactics
16. self: any: deactivate: Speed

I'm not a good player but I take my potions manually. I use Elf root potions. I think good players use restoration potions which give health and stamina.

At the risk of being mocked as lazy (which would be true anyway) I see what appears to be a feast of information, but in about 7, 9 page threads, with loads of comment and discussion around it: and whilst no doubt very valuable, it looks a difficult job to extract the essence of the advice from them.  I'm just wondering:  is the a link to somewhere where the salient points are made so I can set them up in one of my games and see the affects, and afterwards hopefully feel inclined to read through the lot and understand why they worked ? TIA

(Meanwhile I think I'll print out that first post and study/apply it )

Could it be a simple case of the lesson 2 link being broken ? It takes one to a post by Sylriel rather than SuicidialBaby ? I'll check the rest.

I linked to his post so that the reader could understand exactly what was being discussed.  The whole of it is the lesson as you get the problem and the solution on the same page.

i don't know if someone is still following this forum but i'll try to ask this

i always failed to create a tactic with double conditions.

Ex

Enemy:rank elite or higher:conditions for the next tactic

Enemy:staggered:use Crushing prison

Merril keeps using Crushing Prison even on normal enemies, why?

With the tactic order you are using, the game is checking to see if there is an elite or higher rank present with the only action to see if something is staggered.  If there is a single or multiple enemies staggered, the game will target which ever one it feels like casting crushing prison on.  This will likely be the nearest staggered enemy to Merrill or the last one she targeted that happens to be staggered.  Your tactics are out of order.

Enemy: staggered: use current condition for next tactic
Enemy: Rank: Elite or higher: Use Crushing Prison

If an enemy is staggered, check next tactic
If an enemy is rank: Elite or higher, use Crushing Prison.

This is built in such a way that it only checks the presence of a staggered enemy and if such an enemy exists, that it is of sufficient rank to warrant casting Crushing Prison on it.
