I don't quite get why not having the ME2 squadmates in ME3 means that ME2 was pointless. I mean, the plot certainly was, but there were quite a few decisions that seemed imprtant for ME3 to me. I don't really see the connections to the ME2 squad though, especially when you consider that the infos we just got were the first solid infos on ME3 we got. Not to mention that Jarret Lee already said that they want to avoid spoilers in the ME3 marketing, so only because we didn't see something yet doesn't mean it won't be there in the final game.
