Isn't Kaidan a biotic? Why's he wearing such heavy armor?

It was retconned. Kaidan is now super badass soldier with heavy armor and Ashley is mighty biotic in catsuit.

Love the new info...but after years of desperately hoping that Ashley will return so that I can finally romance her (didn't know it was an option in ME1, which has since become part of my personal cannon even when re-playing)...she appears so drastically changed that she looks like a character out of one of the Sims games rather than a member of the Marines.  ME1 (and to a lesser extent, ME2) Ash was such a badass...I don't like the new look at all.  If Jack returns, I may end up romancing her (if it's an option...I had a fling with Jack in ME2.)

Really disappointed in Ashley's new look, but happy with everything else!  I lost 40% of my squad in the suicide mission, but so far, only my survivors have been mentioned (Mordin, Legion, Garrus, even Wrex!)

I lost Tali, Thane, Miranda, and Grunt.  Glad to see I might not be missing much after all!

I see they tried to "butch up" Kaidan. Brav-O, BioWare. Another instance of trying to fix something that didn't need fixing.

What are you talking about.  Kaidan looks excellent and "butch" is usually not a term used to describe men.

well the good news is that if you saved the rachni queen, wrex, the council, and everyone survived on the suicide mission, your guaranteed to start ME3 off with a BANG! lol

Kaidan wearing armor is horrible now?

well now, guess i'm going to add it to my list of RUINED FOREVER

/golfclap

BioWare's playing into the pathetic hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine stereotype cop-outs using "new and improved" renditions of 2 characters who needed no tweaking of this sort. It's called cheapo exploitation.

Kaidan looks more heavily-armored now than anything in the Alliance. Perhaps it will be a common look in ME3, perhaps not. Judging by the BS of extreme gender-"normative" outfits in ME2, I'm leaning to the assumption "not." Surprise! The male sentinel in a mech-suit while the female grunt slinks around in a catsuit. I can't wait to find in-game explanations alluding to these changes. More likely there won't be any excuses for these retcons at all.

Compare his new appearance to the ones he used to have. A phallic shotgun? Metal-suit that obscures the shape of his body? He's being passed off as an ultra-soldier/vanguard archetype to assuage the same fratboy audiences that ME2 catered to.

How is their wearing new stuff a "retcon"? That's just absurd.  Their gear hasn't been retroactively altered. That's sort of a requirement for being a "retcon".

I'm really looking forward to the new outfits for Kaiden and Ashley. Although I never saved Kaiden so I won't see his as much. I really don't understand why everyone hates or really dislikes the updated looks. Personally I LOVE THEM! And I will tell you why... It's because I like the change, it feels like time has passed and improvements and or promotions have been reached. Like Armor for biotics has gotten better. And in the case of Ashely let's say she's now in a different role in the Alliance or she's been promoted and that's her new casual jump suit and not her armor. In ME2 TIM said her files are highly classified, who knows she might be a secret agent now working quietly for Anderson.

Anyways I like how Bioware has made them different because I hate when characters never change and they always look the same. It's a little boring to me.

For all we know, thats just the suit Ashley's wearing to Shepards hearing. Or even something she wears in a Shepard romance cutscene. Until we see an in-setting screenshot of when she's wearng it, we can have no idea why she's wearing it.

Hell, maybe she's being forced to wear it by ME's version of Jabba the Hutt. (OK, Starting to exaggerate, but only because i really don't get why everybodies getting so cheesed off about somwthing so petty and, as yet, non-defined.)

I can see why Kaiden got a make-over to be more "bad-ass". In ME1 he was a bit of a whiner but in transition to ME2 he began to under-go more "Soldier" training so he could stand up to the "threat" that will be coming. In ME3 maybe his "beefed up" appearance is due to him really wanting to be "All he can be" for the threat hes about to face.

But honestly i choose Ashley because she is female lol and she was seemed much more useful for my play style than Kaiden.

My favourite two classes are / were Vanguard and Infiltrator - but even when I used non-combat (tech/bio) classes Ashley was a far away pick. I usually used Tali / Garrus in ME1 (Sometimes Wrex) and I normally use a mix between Tali and Garrus in ME2 or Zaeed and Mordin, occasionally Legion when I'm not an Infiltrator.

At first when I first played ME1 I'm like ""ooooo Ashley is cute..."" then as I got to my like, fifth playthrough I thought she was a shallow condensending b...nevermind...I just REALLY hated that racist woman to no friggen end...

As for her make-over in ME3, well that might be her choice of suit..I mean hell Liara took on a more armored suit for her combat ability, maybe Ash took a less heavy suit because it held her agility back - remember men and women are built very different =D!

What we have here are heavy implications that their combat-roles have been flipped. Unless, of course, BioWare wants to claim that a grunt in a catsuit is meant to soak up more fire than an officer who is wearing a mechsuit. Either way only presents an asinine excuse to put the female in something skintight with her hair down, and the male in complete opposite fashion.

After coming out of ME2, it is not beneath BioWare to go the low road just to make salez. The ME2 story was pathetic enough. Disposable villains. Disposable allies. Were it not for the actual debugging and enhanced gameplay in some elements, it would've been just another entry for that year.

As far as Ashley's new look goes, I don't think it is so much out of character as it reflects her character's growth. In ME, she had pretty low self-esteem. She was blacklisted in the military and transfered from one crap post to the next. Nothing she did was ever good enough. Given that outlook, she probably thought she wouldn't look good no matter what she did, so she settled for servicable. Since ME, though, she has been acknowledge as a hero of the Battle of the Citadel, promoted and give a string of important assignments. Her self-confidence has risen, and she feels "good enough." Given that, she is willing to put more effort into her hair and makeup to enhance her appearance.

Or I could be reading way too much into her new look; take your pick.

Anyway, I don't mind it as long as she isn't wearing a oxygen mask, a catsuit and high heels in combat. Running through a cloud of chlorine gas without any eye protection is a bad thing.

Something else the article mentioned was being able to pick up the weapons of enemies you've killed. BioWare stated they are trying to create a shooter as good as any on the market. I did not enjoy the combat in ME2, however, I have enjoyed it in Gears of War and Dead Space, so making it a better shooter can't hurt. Unfortunately, it looks like they are looking to Halo for inspiration, and I don't particularly enjoy the combat of that franchise.

On the other hand, being able to pick up enemy weapons may help with the dearth of ammo in the game.

Wuhuu. Liara is in game. I seriously hope Wrex will join my team because I miss that big krogan badass, allthough it's not very likely as he is now clan leader.

I wish people could stop complaining about Ash's outfit. Has it ever occured to you that it's her casual outfit? What she'll be wearing when on the Normandy because she doesn't want to be in armor 24/7? She's a frontline Marine; she's gonna have armor!

They can complain all they want and change their LI if they don't like so much. Ashley will not change because she has changed status, it involves changing whether we like it or not.

In the new PS3 magazine it says that Kaiden/Ashley are now spectres. So I would presume that that's her casual outfit onboard the Normandy.

Well since I'm female and I like his new look, guess your frat boy audience comment doesn't fit.

No, you can't, because the baton is considered part of their model.

I don't know if someone has already brought this up (or even cares) but...
If the Alliance reclaimed the Normandy and is ripping her apart, what happened to EDI?? I know my Shep would put up a fight if they tried to deactivate her or whatever.

I liked the new look of Ash. I think it would be weirder if she was still in the same outfit she had been wearing for the past three years. Almost like she was still living in the past.

I managed to save my entire squad during my last playthrough so hoping they all feature at some point. Some more than others. I definitely want to see Miranda, Tali and Mordin (as well as Garrus)back as squadmates. The others I'm more pragmatic about.

Hope we get decent romance dialogue and interactions again. As choice has been a component of the trilogy so far, I'm quite optimistic that'll be the case.

I cannot wait for this game. I won't jump to any conclusions but from what I've seen/read...I'm looking forward to it more than ever.
