I'm pleased to hear that all of the main characters from ME 1&2 will return (if they have survived the events from the previous games. Reasonably ME 3 is the finale to the grandeur that Bioware has built up from "square one" so any implementation of all the main characters from the previous games being put either in Commander Shepard's squad or in crucial story positions is definitely a must if ME 3 is to succeed with a landslide. I'm surprised though.. Liara is going to be a permanent squad-mate this time around. I can imagine why she would temporarily leave being the Shadow Broker for being in the spotlight with Shepard. I suppose her "final" orders to her operatives are to "destroy the Reapers" when they finally arrive and maybe that's how she has the leeway to be on Shepard's team.

I love how the combat-wise gameplay will be improved :) It's tedious to move around and create right-off-the-bat tactics if Shepard and allies mobility is limited. E.G. The issue about how the player has to move into cover behind a wall before leaping/vaulting over it and the lack of leaping over a gap. The implementation of rolling really is a great way to amplify safe combat strategies. In place of rolling, I believe there should be sliding into cover and diving from cover to cover.

As with the AI interaction for players. I think that having the down button on the D-pad should not only bring friendly AI to your location, but also make it a priority to create tactical defensive maneuvers to flank enemies in hiding or to camp in a strategically advantageous spot to gain protection and the position to create offensive fluctuations in the heat of battle. ME 3 is going to be a war-zone, not the typical covert and small skirmish/ 40sec battles. The gameplay will require that every trick in the book of combat be utilized to survive. It's fate that this game will require us to be on our toes and use new moves to navigate, and to be able to be fluid is to be evolving the battlefield into more than just gun-fire. Your squad should be able to tactfully push on the offensive with a simple press of the up button, flank your foes, provide protection whenever your shields are down and when health is low, melee a close proximity enemy *Notably how Grunt does the Krogan Charge melee attack, and alert your squad of the enemy positions, attack styles, and strategies. There are many things that can be be done for this upcoming epic conclusion in terms of combat gameplay, we'll just have to hope and see what kind of implementations there will be to stack up to the hype and expectations of ME 3.

As for the squad-mates themselves. I haven't played ME 1 before (shame on me :[ ) but like some others who said so here, I'd like to see more personal interaction between Shepard and his team. Personally for me, a true commander/leader interaction with his squad entitles that even in desperate situations, there still can be plenty of great pleasures to be done. I'd like squad members to be able to dance along and drink with Shepard whenever he goes to the Citadel or clubs. I'd like all permanent squad mates to comment on things, places, or people that they interact with alongside Shepard. The RPG element that made this trilogy as big as can be should be fully generated to exemplify the importance of being a present team member. I'd be pleased to hear if you guys would agree that not only Shepard has an opinion on topics that he discusses with the various people that he meets.

For the permanent squad setup, here's my list of the most likely returning team members (some of which has been mentioned already):

1) Garrus - If he was a squad member in ME 1&2, why not ME 3 as well?
2) Kaidan or Ashley - They were huge characters in #1 and only cameos in #2. ME 3 should bring them back in full circle as huge characters in this epic conclusion.
3) Liara T'Soni (Samara will be replaced by Liara. See below the list for a reason)
4) Tali'Zorah Vas Normandy - Same reason as Garrus and also, she is permanently apart of the Normandy crew hence "Vas Normandy"
5) Grunt (not Wrex. See below the list for a reason)
6) Mordin Solus - Has nowhere else to go and is bent on stopping the Reapers
7) Miranda Lawson - If you brought her along to fight the Human-Reaper in the Suicide Mission, she will resign from Cerberus if you decided to destroy the Collector Base. Logically she wants to stop the Reaper threat alongside Shepard as well.
8) Jacob Taylor - Same reason as Miranda
9) Legion - Wants to fight the Reapers because Legion sees the Reapers as a threat to his fellow geth and to everyone in the galaxy
10) James Sanders - The Gameinformer magazine confirmed so. I'm not sure why he's on the squad.. maybe he's a die-hard fan of Commander Shepard and runs into him while the Commander is escaping Earth.

*Liara replaces Samara due to the possibility of why she would temporarily leave being the Shadow Broker for being in the spotlight with Shepard. I suppose her "final" orders to her operatives are to "destroy the Reapers when they finally arrive and maybe that's how she has the leeway to be on Shepard's team." Also, Samara's obligation to Shepard's Code has ended after destroying the Collectors. She's free to go wherever she pleases. Maybe she returns to Ilium or Omega to stop crime there. If you traveled around Omega with Samara and talked with her, she mentions that due to the high crime rate, she wants to return to Omega after the mission. She may be at Omega to help you win over the trust of Aria T'Loak when you try to recruit her as a supporter to fight against the Reapers (that's one of the main objectives in ME 3, to recruit major groups and civilizations to fight against the Reapers)

*Grunt replaces Wrex because Wrex has an obligation to form union with all of the Krogan and because of the fact that Shepard is Grunt's battle-master. Wrex will be on Tuchanka to be persuaded to help fight the Reapers. With Shepard's history with Wrex, I believe that recruiting them to the galactic cause is going to be pretty easy.

Generally, I think that the list above is the squad that'll be accompanying us on our latest adventure. Hopefully Bioware can implement some outstanding gameplay that tops their previous outstanding implementations in the ME universe :)

MASS EFFECT 3 gameplay from the E3 Demo. It's looking pretty epic! I'd like to point out some of the cool new features that Bioware decided to implement this time around :)

1) Viewing certain environmental scenes by pressing the Y button when the viewing icon shows up
2) Cool war scenes like the beginning of the video
3) Rolling and switching from cover-to-cover any time
4) Omni-Blade ---> Strong melee attack
5) Improved Dynamic Lighting
6) Improved Enemy AI behavior (Flanking, Tanking, etc)
7) New mobility moves as mentioned from #3 allows Shepard to move around cover, cover-to-cover, and when behind an unsuspecting enemy standing still, Shepard can pull off a stealthy assassination to quick subdue the foe.
8) Throw grenades as such from games like Halo and CoD
9) Climbing ladders and sprint-jumping (leaping) over small gaps

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

Something to think about. If you watched the video and tried to figure out what's happening, it could be possible that the planet that Shepard and the team is on may be a Salarian planet and it could be that Mordin has figured out the cure to the genophage and made it successful on a female Krogan. Thoughts about the character plot and ME 3?

I don't think so, because Mordin believes that genophage saved the galaxy (he says that in ME2), so I don't think he would have that drastic change of heart in 6 months (period between ME2 and ME3).

I'm almost positive that Jack will be a permanent Squadmate in 3... Depending on your previous choices. If Shepard was pro-Cerberus, didn't do her loyalty mission/did do it and sided with Miranda (Why someone would do that, who knows?), I could see her leaving. But otherwise, especially if you romanced her (Even more so because she is a potential romance), I'm sure she'll be back permanently. In my final battle, I need Garrus and Jack by my side. Legion is the only one who could possibly replace one of them, and that would be Garrus. I love Garrus, but if he must die at some point or is needed elsewhere, Legion can take his place.

I cannot be certain of the authenticity of the post given it came from GameFAQs, however the user in question did provide webcam pictures of the magazine. Regardless, it never hurts to discuss the possibility and those who do subscribe can confirm or deny here whether what was said is indeed accurate. Spoilers are obvious to some extent but according to Game Informer, the following has been confirmed.

Liara
Ashley/Kaidan
Garrus
James Sanders (believed to be the sniper from the trailer)

All four will be active squad mates, Garrus obviously dependent on his status at the conclusion of ME2. In addition, there is no multiplayer, Earth will not have significant involvement in the storyline and Wrex, Mordin, Legion, and Anderson are confirmed but not yet known to be squadmates.

The post can be found here. Take it for what you will.

I think they should include all characters from ME 1 and 2 that served with you and are alive and so it could be the ultimate showdown, the Reapers bring their armada and Shepard brings his armada  and then you can officially kick some Reaper ass just my opinion though but still it would be damn epic.
That being said it's going to put me in a rut if they do that when I have to choose who the one romance scene I want to have is with lmao

I want to see something happen with the geth since you could encourage a war between quarians and geth in ME 2 then you meet Legion and that whole arc it would be pretty bad ass if suddenly you have a geth armada helping you.

If Garrus is in, I can't imagine Tali not being in.

What is with all the butthurt about Cerberus being an enemy? First of all, we don't know anything yet. TIM could be indoctrinated, TIM could be dead, TIM could just be a douchebag or any number of other things. Working for Cerberus was forced on us in ME2, and yet I don't see a bunch of whining about that. Seriously, grow up (or just grow a pair) and just wait for the game, which will be awesome no matter what. People seem desperate to find a reason to hate ME3 before it's even out. Ridiculous.

They have capitalized on the weaknesses of both ME1 And ME2, As I have read and heard from others. But I'm sure there is some flaws but they always seem to be good enough... Hope there is a online mutltiplayer or a ton of extra downloadable content.

I'm thinking that Liara and Sanders will be balancing out the romance sides on a default level, with ash/kaiden filling in based on choice, as well as garrus and tali based on what you did in the suicide mission.

Tali and Grunt are sort of in a similar boat where Grunt wouldn't have much to do outside of palling around with shepard, and if Tali gets exiled she literally has nowhere else to go. (i have that encounter on one of my files where I didn't go for persuasion points constantly, and i think i was unable to rally the crowd, so my only choices were exile or turn over evidence. Not a good situation)

Mordin and Legion are going to be too busy to join your fire team again, samara has her justicar duties, thane has his illness, kasumi and zaeed are dlc and sort of felt like characters that were being "brought in to help"....miranda quitting cerberus leaves alot open for her, jacob i dont really see coming back. jack i've been hearing ALOT about on twitter, maybe she'll be back? maybe she'll be in a mission? Maybe they'll be doing more with squadmates than we saw with me1 and 2. After playing Dragon Age Origins I'm sort of seeing what seems like a cool potential level for what mass effect 3 can do with it's group.

I think ALL original ME1 squad members, say for Wrex, are likely to return (assuming Tali and Garrus survive ME2 and come on, it's not hard to get everyone to survive). Out of those from ME2 I think is the question - honestly, brand new squad mates will prove annoying if that means replacing others, by ME3 we all have favorites and connections with many I personally don't want many brand new squadmates if that means instead of others from ME1 or ME2.

I think Miranda is likely I hope. I don't see why not Jacob, Mordin I can see major fan support for - Jack the devs have mentioned tho not as a squadmate yet. Thane well, he'll be dead sadly... I don't see Samara/Morinth being a squadmate. Grunt maybe - Legion perhaps later -

All the squad members from ME1 should return, as for your squad selection I think it would be like this. Assuming they survive.

Ash/Kaiden
Garrus
Grunt
Tali
Legion
Liara
Morinth/Samara
Vega
Miranda
Jacob (hopefully not)
Jack (if loyal)
Thane
Mordin (maybe but most likely not)
Zaeed (maybe, Cerberus did pay him after all and Vido's death could be the final straw)
Kasumi (not sure, don't have her DLC)

*Wrex will rally the Krogan for Shepard if he lived
*Samara did swear an oath to Shepard but it's extent may have only been until the suicide mission, Morinth however will stay with Shepard considering she really wants him
*Thane dying and wants atone for his sins before he dies, will probably think best way to do so is to stop the reapers
*Bioware has said that Jack will return but as a more mature character
*Jacob will probably stay, he is one of your most loyal followers after all
*Mordin is a maybe because he might try to complete Malin's cure for the genophage after reaper invasion seeing that the Krogan may be a pivotal fighting force
*Miranda will almost definitely stay cause she would have no where else to go after she quits Cerberus
*Cerberus allegiance still un-clarified, ramifications of suicide mission still unknown
*Aria may be allies with Cerberus
*More info covered in novels and comics
*Bioware has said that help will come from unexpected places, even said that a Thresher Maw could help you for once

Hopefully
-Blasto is a possible team member
-Batarian, Volus, or Elcor squad member?

If I'm not mistaken, Liara and  Ashley/Kaidan are the only ones that are sure to survive the first two games. Am I wrong that all the others could have been killed off in ME1 & 2?

I really hope Miranda is around somewhere, if you saved her in ME2.

We need more Legion, screw the rest, i dont want a bald whiny psycho on my team or a deformed turian, hell i could even do without the british chick and her nice arse.

Just give me the sweet robot and the perfected reptile and lets call it a day.

Edit: Why more Tali? Does anyone even like her, let alone use her? Since i played this series the ONLY time she has left the ship was when i did her loyalty mission.

Seriously everytime i hear her speak i just want to slash her suit and watch her die from some random germ floating around in the drive core.

Besides, her race attempted genocide on sentient beings with no provocation, they deserve their exile/extermination.

That is all :bandit:
