When Bioware listens to what guys like, it's catsuits for everyone!
When Bioware listens to what women like, it's a crazy monster with visible mandibles and an awesome personality!
I wish Bioware had released the actual figures, but all the ME2 surveys I've seen have Miranda as the favorite Maleshep LI and Garrus as the favorite Femshep LI. Now if they redesign Kaidan to try to glom on to the popularity of Garrus...
Not sure if want.

Whoops, never knew a pile of ashes could look so good. Ah well, I'm assuming if they did a rework on Ashley, Kaiden will also get some cool new look.
I hope Jacob was not their idea of "the kind of thing that most girls like, right?" Or if he was, I hope they realized that they were incorrect.
I actually thought Kaidan's Horizon armor was cooler than anything he wore in ME1, so something like that would be nice. Basic black and sophisticated. Too bad he had to open his mouth and ruin everything. Yeah I said it!

Glad to see Mordin is back, I never get tired of hearing: Flammable, inflammable? Forget which, doesn't matter!

Of course they didn't, it was stated several times that VS has a minor role in ME2 because their survival must be assured for the third installation.

Yeah, They revealed 4 out of my 4 favorite characters are in the game in some way. It would be difficult for me to be happier.

Though I guess by dork standards she wasn't hot enough? Though the romances in ME1 were a bit odd as well, and basically amounted to "I think you're cute, you wanna jump in my bed sometime?" ME2 was a little better in that they actually tried to develop a relationship of sorts, and make it less of a fling.
Also it's pretty obvious Miranda was added as fanservice to the guys. She's pretty much got the proportions of a porn star. The genetic engineering is just kind of convient way of saying: well this is why she looks hot. Also it's pretty apparent they hyped up Tali's sexuality as well. In ME1 did I in no way get the vibe she was drooling over male Shepard. Frankly I thought Quarians were semi-cyborgs to be honest. Then in ME2 she's literally the cute chick with glasses with a crush on Shepard. Erm what? Of course it's not Mass Effect if male Shepard can't get his Captain Kirk on.
So I'm really not surprised they amped Ashley's look up. As I'm guessing Miranda won't be a permanent squadie. Although a Ashley vs. Miranda catfight would be interesting... *ahem* But yeah no doubt they were going to make Ashley hotter to compete. It would have been nice if she had remained the same, although I don't find her new look bad since she was always meant to be attractive to the male audience.
As for the looks of video game characters. I mean yeah they tend to go a bit overboard making women look sexy. Also probably doesn't help most character model designers are males, so surprise surprise that females have rather large cans. But you can't honestly tell me that most male characters are more realistically proportioned. Most male protagonists are such big beefy dudes (just look at GoW or any fighting game) there's no way any guy can look anything like that, unless they get on some steroids. It's not as if Kaidan, Jacob, or Thane for that matter are lacking the "hot bod".
Frankly I think male shepard and female shepard are probably some of the better proportioned characters you'll see in a video game. They're fit, but they aren't unreasonably muscular or unreasonably curvy per say.
But yeah it goes both ways. Thing is people prefer to look at attractive people regardless, so it seems unlikely the trend will change.

I think they just wanted to sexy her up, considering how much more popular Miranda was, even though Miranda had a fraction of the personality and depth Ashley had. Nobody liked Miranda for her personality, yet she was one of the most popular characters. Ashley, on the other hand, was rarely given a chance by most fans.
I don't really care how Ashley looks, but if you're upset about the visual change, blame yourselves, the people on this forum, instead of Bioware or EA. The fans have made it clear what's "important".
On a positive note, has anybody considered this may mean more variety in character appearance? We know Ashley is a Soldier. It's likely she'll look like that while on the ship, but wear armor (and possibly her hair up) while on missions, which would be really cool.
This is wrong. Many people did like Miranda for her personality and were annoyed by her trashy sex scene. "The melting of the ice queen" is how they view the romance not the "sex in the engine room".
