I was wondering if Varric ever reveals anything about his crossbow., as I believe it to be the most interesting item in the game. It appears to be pneumatic, judging from the sound effects, and apparently is self-reloading.
Anyway:
1.) Is Bianca purely a mechanical device, or is it a magical artifact?
2.) No one else in the DA universe has been seen wielding a mechanical crossbow. Can a similar crossbow be replicated, or was Bianca lost technology recovered from an old Thaig?
3.) Why can't I kill Varric and take his crossbow? I'd much rther have Anders tell my story anyway.
What exactly is Bianca?

Kill Varric? That's monstrous! I mean the vey suggestion, and for a crossbow?! I kid, but I do love Varric. I don't think Bianca ia magical because you can place runes on her. Varric probably made her himself and improves upon his design from time to time.
I love how Varric acts like a jealous lover whenever someone tries to touch Bianca.
Edit: Isabella trying to woo Bianca away from Varric was pricless. As was Varric indignation when Sebastian offered to improve Bianca.

Bianca is purely mechanical. It's actually probably more simple than it looks. I know the handle on the bottom controls the reloading mechanism and the trigger towards the back fires the bolt. There would have to be a few gears to get all the energy to bring the string back and some place that acts as a magazine but that's doable with a spring.

An entire DLC should be devoted to the Adventures of Varric and Bianca. I'd buy it...it it were free v_v
