Is it ever said in-game how Hawke's father died? Death by Templar? Death by disease? Death by Mabari?

In the Blight and/or three years prior to the Blight... the game says it both ways, apparently.

Bethany tells Merrill in a banter that her father died in the Blight. But the codex entry on Hawke says he died 3 years ago (before leaving Lothering).

I assumed from those 2 points that he'd died similarly to Aveline's husband 3 years before Lothering

Bethany would have said he died "of the blight" if that was it. She says "My father died in the Blight". The text capitalizes the B even.

Well... that is... confusing. I guess I'll believe Bethany over the Codex?

I assume he could have died while giving your family time to run away from Lothering :).

Hmm, no, that doesn't work--as cool as it would've been. It makes Leandra seem pretty cold and weird--she's devistated over losing her child (whichever one you lose) and still talks about it a year later in Act I, but few mentions are made to her husband at all.

Yeah lack of mourning for the father suggests that it was 3 years ago.
