Hackett says at the end of Arrival that Shep has to come "back to Earth to face the music" so this is not surprising. I just wonder, because it sounds like they are, that Bioware is making the events of Arrival happening even if you didn't play it.

That's because it does happen, much like Lair of the Shadowbroker. Bioware is treating dlc much like anyone playing Mass Effect 2 who has not played the original installment. The events still happen; you just did not fully witness them.

Precisely. This is true for both LOTSB and Arrival.

I feel ripped off now. I mean I loved LOTSB a lot but I would never have gotten Arrival (unless it was out of curiosity to see what happened exactly), if I had known this. This is the only thing so far that makes me sad.

I also would like some information on the $80 and $100 ME3 games so I can finally put a preorder down on whichever version I like best.

I was merely exressing bemusement at this seemingly needless change.  Maybe more info will be forthcoming, but with the information we have right now, just seems pointless.

Not necessarily needless Iakus, I and several others have been asking for this for a while now.  Especially the slots thing.  I'm glad to hear that Bioware heard us.

At this point I do not have any "nays".

- I feel that having a comic intro is a bit silly. I always felt that the proper consequences, etc. for imports was a reward for players who had played the previous games, and that kind of takes away from that. I understand it's probably to help them sell more copies to those who may not have played ME1 and/or ME2, but still... I hope it at least only covers major stuff and those of us who have stuck through the whole thing still get more than newbies. Still, if this means ME3 is a little more dependent on the originals, then I can take the hit there.

If it's anything like the ME2 PS3 comic then it means major decisions and no import bonuses and I think that's great!

My wife bought it for PS3 and I really wish they had released one for PC & 360. I have a my ME1+2 playthroughs ready for ME3 import and now that I've created those imports, I wouldn't mind just playing around in ME2 without the mindset of "this will be one of my main imports." Thus, I wouldn't care about the import bonuses or the small decisions, but I don't always want the generic ME1 import: Shepard romanced no one, killed Wrex, let Kaidan die, killed the Council, etc . I think that slight customization is the draw to the original players of the Mass Effect series.

Most of it falls into a “depends on how it’s done” category to me.

- Game begins with Shepard on Earth
- Reapers invade while the trial is happening
- Prologue: Shepard’s escape to the Normandy, off to start finding allies, fighting Reaper troops
- Squadmates include Liara. What about the shadow broker thing? Was kijnda hoping she would have her own important role outside of being on Shepards squad.
- The Illusive Man plays a big role
- Cerberus is out to kill Shepard.
Eh ...if there is a good reason maybe. If they have been hit with the stupid bat, picked now to go on a power trip and bioware has decided to throw all pretence that they ever wanted them to be morally grey out the window then that’s a definite nay.
- Enhanced RPG elements.  Depends what they mean by “RPG elements”. If they mean having to think about Shepard’s and your squad mates builds, better management of squad in battle or more role-playing opportunities then yay. If they mean pointless time wasting things that requires no intelligence such as looting and swapping out one lot of armour for another slightly better version of the same damn thing then nay.
- More freedom with character skills. Freedom in what way? Are they going o go so far as to make classes largely pointless? Sometimes that can be very good, I don’t mind not really having defined classes if you can play in a number of dramatically different ways. Perhaps what class you pick will determine which skill trees you can pick from. Like for example adepts can use all biotics and sentinel can pick a limited number of biotic and tech abilities but again it depends on how well they have done it.
- All classes can wield all weapons unhindered now. See above^ Also if there is and accuracy skill I will cry.
- There will be limited slots to carry these weapons:
- Soldier can carry all weapons at once

- Adept, Engineer, and Sentinal will likely be limited to two weapons, three for Vanguard and Infiltrator.
- Larger skill trees.
What we had in ME2 was way too bare boned so this would be a big yay if it’s not a whole bunch of redundant skills that do pretty much the same thing or its like ME1 where you have a ton of points but putting a few points in anything doesn’t really make a difference however then nay.
- Powers will evolve several times, not just once. See above^
- Weapons are like the ones in Mass Effect 2, have a set list
- Mods returning, swap out different parts such as barrels, scopes (effect both the weapon’s combat performance and its appearance). Hell yes...if it’s balanced and no being able to snipe as well with a pistol as you can with a sniper rifle.

Yay
- Shepard is on trial in regard to the events of Arrival. So he/she should be. No get out of jail free spectre or not. Arrival was big enough to warrent removal of your spectre status anyway.
-Squadmates include Ashley/Kaiden, Garrus
- Confirmed appearances (may not be squadmates): Wrex, Mordin, Legion, and Anderson
- Game will show a “previously on Mass Effect” comic to make decisions if you’re starting from scratch
. If it just covers main decisions it will be good for seeing how other things turn out when you don’t have a save for that outcome. It not like its existence will hurt you if you don’t end up using it.
- Numerous endings. Well unless the pull a fallout 3. Numerous endings my ass. But I don’t see that happen so ill just put this in yay.
- Who you have in your squad and which allies you recruit greatly impact the endings that are available

Nay

- Screenshot shown of Ashley with her hair down. She looks like Miranda and while I have no issue with Miranda I don’t want Ashley to look like her clone.

Don’t care
- Squadmates include James Sanders. Who?
- No multiplayer. Was never really opposed to multiplayer, tho I probably wouldn’t have used it. So long as it dint detract from the single player

Yeah I’m being nitpicky and over thinking things right now. Overall I’m cautiously optimistic.

Will we be able to give new armor (more than 1 or 2) to our squads. Even better, will they be customizable like Sheps?

All sound like yays to me although i am curious about some matters

-as someone stated earlier; will SMGs make a return? I imagine if having to choose between SMGs and Assault rifles, it will be the latter every time
-So does TIM want Shepard even if you handed him the base?
-I'm totally for Liara as a squad member, but will she be doing this while simultaneously organizing the massive resource shadow broker ship?
-It's nice to see Ashley let her hair down (literally)
-Comic book seems like an interesting idea, without it, it wouldn't really be fair to those who didn't have access to ME1
Looking forward to it all. I'll need to continue to be on the lookout for games that will distract me until the holidays xD

To gauge what we've recently read from GameInformer about ME3 thus far, as fans let's gauge what we think of what we've heard thus far. Here's a fairly good list I found that seperates each factor into individual points:-

...

Regarding the "nays" from me:

- I feel that having a comic intro is a bit silly. I always felt that the proper consequences, etc. for imports was a reward for players who had played the previous games, and that kind of takes away from that. It doesn't take anything away from you at all, you still have save game imports, what this does is help other people get into ME that might not have previously played it, this is a bonus as all should be able to experience something like the Mass Effect Trillogy. In short, you loose nothing, they gain something. Don't be greedy and let everyone have a piece.

Everything I've read so far, which is admittedly very brief and not overly descriptive, is either a big YAY for me, or a tepid "don't really care either way." Going by what little knowledge of the game I have now, it sounds like ME3 will be the game ME2 should have been.

Hmm, well at least BW can still surprise me.  Thought for sure they were going to  include multi-player this time around.

Actually, after thinking about it more, the comic thing has actually grown on me. Not because I'll ever use it or think players shouldn't play ME1 and ME2 first, but because it says to me that ME3 may not be quite as stand-alone and isolated as I feared. The comic says to me that BioWare believes players need to know about what came before-hand with ME3, while ME2 didn't have that feeling. That's what I'm hoping and telling myself anyway.

With regards to the trial, I personally think it's great. Even if it doesn't go anywhere it's a great way of showing right from the get go a lot of our choices and thus personalising the experience, and that's always a good thing. It should mean that every beginning is different for every player and import, since I imagine it'll be going over events from the past as a whole and not just isolated to the Arrival stuff. Much like the opening of ME2 with Miranda and TIM discussing several key points about what Shepard has done which change depending, and then who the ME1 squaddie/LI you see running to get you is, etc. but even moreso. To me it's not so much about the trial as it is how it personalises things. This is just me guessing again though.

I think the comic is a good idea in a sense as someone previously mentioned, hard drives etc do die and xbox's do break somewhat (lol) so it'd be handy to know that you dont have to play the first 2, even though if your new to the franchise I'd think a bit silly but the choice should be there.

They'd miss out of 2 brilliant games :)
