I would love to see a modified staff ranged attack animation that does not look like it's part of a dance routine, or adapted from baton twirling.

It's a weapon, point it at the target and fire.

No twirling, no spinning, no behind the back, no slamming it into the dirt...

This probably requires a fully working toolset, I'm guessing.

As far as I can tell the said staff attack animations have a heck of a lot more in common with staff fighting than baton twirling. In fact, aside from the 'slam into the dirt' animation which doesn't make any sense except to look cool and give it a sense of finality, I can assure you that I have used every single one of those movements in bojutsu.

On a target 30 yards away?

Behind the back spin move?

Yes, including the behind the back spin move. It is an excellent movement for conserving momentum during display. Also, as I suspect you are aware, 'on a target 30 yards away' invalidates your own argument as well.

How so?

What I want is for the ranged attacks with staves to feature a basic animation, with no twirling.  The twirling and ground strikes serve no purpose, look silly, and detract from the setting and feel.

And... during display?  Is this related in some way to actual combat usage?

Anyway, I don't suppose that there's any hope of this ever happening?

Hell, I'd settle for just getting rid of the behind-the-back and the ground slam. I'm OK with the part where the mage fires from one end, and then the other, back and forth.

Personally, I think the mages look badass when fighting. I love it.

I agree with Elysium... it would be horrible removing it, shame on you for wanting it!
but seriously, I think it looks awesome to.

Well, I think it looks ridiculous. So I would love to see a mod for this.

I think it looks cool but wouldn't mind this just cause of the amount of times me or a party member has died because that 4th one in the chain has to finish before the character will do anything else (ie heal/barrier)

That's part of why I'd like it changes:  the long delay on that fourth move; the ground slam.

And to me, it does look rediculous... it serves no actualy purpose other than to "look que-el".

@sayle your post made me look at 3 hours of documentaries and videos about bojutsu.thanks
I think the animation looks great, what you could do is what I did, I changed the staff to behave like a Greatsword and I have the same staff with original animation and use swap Weapons mod
so use them for close combat and ranged attacks

well is just a suggestion

I'm with Killjoy Cutter. We could do with a mod that seriously cleans up mages' ranged attacks.

BTW, some of the same issues existed in DAO with finishing moves.  Got whacked a few times because I couldn't do anything else while the "fancy-shmancy" move finished.  Very frustrating.

I don't mind fancy "stick twirling" when mage is actually smacking someone with that stick in melee, but when the attack is purely ranged, not all of those fancy moves are necessary, especially since the animation itself at times takes too long time to complete.

Slightly OT, but that sounds like a bug. If I'm not mistaken, you're supposed to be untargetable during finishing moves. I don't remember ever taking damage or getting killed while doing one.

I think it was more a timing thing than anything else. If you're "on the ragged edge" with health, in a crowd, can't drink a potion, and even a critter-level baddie hits you as soon as you come out of it, you're toast.
