Apparently, this guy will be a new squadmate in ME3.

When there were more than a dozen in ME2 already.

We don't know much about him, but I'm guessing he's either a soldier or a scientist we pick up early on in the game.

Will he be the only new squadmate? Or does BioWare have plans for more?

They confirmed it isn't the Big Ben Sniper, right? What I wonder is, is he related to Kahlee Sanders from the books? o__o? Seems an odd choice of surname if he isn't.

/hugely curious

It could be, who knows. I think it probably is him, but there is no certainty on that yet.

He could be related to the woman from the books (though I haven't read the books).

Re: Certainty -
Oh I thought I read somewhere that they confirmed it isn't Big Ben. 0:
Edit: Yeah. Thanks, Pacifien.

Confirmation that he's not the sniper guy from the trailer. He does, however, share a last name with Kahlee Sanders, a character from the novels.

Well it says here that he's her son.

Edit to note that yeah I know there's no guarantee about reliability/accuracy, was just posting interesting link I found. :]

I am in the mood for some speculation today :) - i got feeling that James Sanders would be just an temporary squadmate. I can see him asisting us in the first levels just until we get to Normandy.
Why adding some new unsignificant human to the squad ? If he is realy to become fully selectable squadmate he'd better have some good story about him, last thing we need is some borring unsignificant Team member.

That can't be true surely ?  I mean I have read all the books and Kahlee Sanders is one of my favourite characters in the ME universe (really hope to god she is in ME 3) and nowhere does it suggest she ever had a son or even a brother.  I was under the impression she was an only child, never married and never had children.

I think the metro article is taking what they found in the Gameinformer article and then jumping to conclusions. Nothing in the novels suggests that Kahlee is a mother, but then again, she's the hidden offspring of a legend, so... you know, whatever they want.

This guy might just fry chicken for a living for all we know. I dunno how there will be enough time to develop this guy to the level the rest of Shep's crew will have been done by the end of ME3. It'd suck if he were just some forgettable guy like Jenkins.

Notice that he also shares a name with a man who served with Sarah Williams.

I seriously have a bad feeling that this guy will be ME3's Jenkins. The video that Game Informer saw was of the prologue right? We all know what happens to the second squadmate we get.

Mass effect 3 would be incomplete without an obligatory red shirt at the start.
Still, don't remember Wilson or Jenkins being announced, and I doubt they'd announce a red shirt, so I'm pretty sure he is a squadmate.

Bioware have announced a red shirt as a squadmate before, just look at Mhairi ^, poor poor Mhairi :(. They even gave her a trailer when Dragon Age: Awakenings was being made. So I wouldn't trust them until I've seen footage of this james Sanders outside of the prologue!

Whenever I hear that phrase, I start hearing the Brood War Aria in my head.

God, it's a glorious song.

Just some crazy thoughts here about "James Sanders" more for the fun of speculation rather than believing I am right: What if Bioware is intentionally deceiving us concerning the gender issue a bit like with "Jack" in ME2? Remember that the next novel will be named Deception and is about Gillian. My crazy theory/wild guess: James Sanders is Gillian Grayson. My clues: Gillian is hiding among the quarians from Cerberus. She must wear a suit at all time which is perfect for disguising even your gender. Gillian's parents are dead. The closest thing to a "relative" is Kahlee Sanders. Wild guess again: Maybe Deception is about how Cerberus are trying to recapture Gillian from the Migrant Fleet and she has to go into hiding disguising herself as a boy/man?
