Mass effect 3 would be incomplete without an obligatory red shirt at the start.
Still, don't remember Wilson or Jenkins being announced, and I doubt they'd announce a red shirt, so I'm pretty sure he is a squadmate.

I believe they annouced Jenkins with ME1, or at least presented him to the journalist as a squadmate.

Hehe.  I sure hope Sanders is not a snooze-worthy character.   His name is pretty blandsville, so that's not a super promising start.  I hope he's Kahlee's estranged brother, the one she never talks about because he's like a pirate or a criminal or something.  If he's a 20-something Alliance soldier I will be annoyed (unless he's the obligatory cannon fodder).

I just had a chance to read the GI article in full, and Sanders seems to fill the role of "clueless guy who is constantly questioning everything so that newbies won't be totally confused." Blerg, I say.

Oh crap. He's the Normandy's Wesley Crusher, isn't he?

He'd better be a colonel, that's all I have to say.

I hope Sanders dies relatively quickly. Don't waste time and resources on a new squaddie nobody cares about, we need closure on the squaddies we already have.

Lol, maybe.  Although I suppose having a character that asks questions like "Who's that guy?" and "What are Reapers?" is better than Shepard acting like a mule kicked him in the head and asking such questions him/herself.  Gotta ease the noobs into it somehow, I guess<_<.

I'm actually hoping James Sanders is more of a badass N7 type, maybe something along the lines of (if you've seen the movies) Bruce Willis in Tears of the Sun or Hoot in Blackhawk Down. I've always wanted a fellow N7 alliance marine as a squadmate. It would be good if he was a soldier or infiltrator with overload or incinerate abilities.

So he's a companion of The Doctor?

I mean, London is under attack by aliens...

I wouldn't be surprised if James Sanders is just another clueless "Leroy Jenkins" canon fodder guy from ME1:

Seriously, how many companions does Shepard need? There's a ton of them already.

I look forward to meting him.

I already hate this guy, because i already have my share of humans (including shepard) and i wanted something refreshing for a change. In fact i thought that having the virmire survivor back they would opt for making the rest of the squad aliens. Well i hope this James Sanders guy is interesting enough and not just some character to introduce new people into the series.

Anyone else want to bet he turns out to be a spy? I can't imagine anyone will like him if he's just some clueless Alliance soldier who asks too many questions.

Subject: Re: Hey sis

James left today. He's been reassigned to one of the new Rapid Response Bases out in the Kepler Verge. Lucky bastard. It's like the ancient west out there — pirates and slavers coming out of the Terminus Systems all the time. He gets to play the cavalry, riding out in frigates any time someone's house gets burned down.

I made some speech about how he was a valuable asset to the squad and he
better make us look good out there, blah blah. I suck at speeches. I
was cribbing from something I read back in history class. I don't think
anyone noticed.

I'm going to miss him. Don't tell anyone.

So you think James is cute, eh? Yeah, well, when you said I should "go
for him" — not gonna happen, kiddo. See, we have rules about
"fraternization". You don't do The Deed with your fellow troops,
especially if they're under you in rank. There's all sorts of problems
that can happen when two people in the same unit get together.

Let's say your unit is in a tight spot. Some bug-eyed aliens are going
to overrun the galaxy. They eat babies, smell bad, and don't have
elbows. Nasty. You're told to guard the rear. To let everyone else
escape, someone is ordered "hold this spot until we're gone." Someone
has to be left behind. You think it's going to be someone you're
sleeping with?

I've served with these guys for eight months now. Yeah, some of them
make me feel tingly (and yeah, James was kinda scruffy-cute). I hope I
never have to decide who lives and who dies. But if I have to, my
decision can't be muddled up by magic-sparkly-hearts-and-stars feelings.

Anyways, I'm gonna knock off here. I've got dog watch in a few hours.
Want to get a shower and a meal before then. Talk to you tomorrow.

- Ash

That GI article said he's seen active duty, so I doubt he's gonna be some clueless marine. Nice find on the letter from Ash! Very sneaky, Bioware. I wonder how that plays out if Ash is dead? Should be nice drama if she lived and has moved on to him after Horizon.

It does seem odd that they wouldn't mention Kahlee having a son in the books, but she is old enough... Maybe he's a distant cousin? lol.
