(And it really bothers me that you can't even try to save her. As Huon seizes control of her, it's obvious that something is going to go very wrong, and you're stuck standing there watching the stupid cinematics that BioWare has become so enamored with.)

But then, I sometimes get the feeling that we're supposed to be following along with DA2's story, rather than determining the course of it ourselves...

Surely, Hawke could have gone to the alley in daylight hours (and therefore before Emeric), because that whole note thing oozed of 'this is a trap', and then waited until whoever was going to ambush Emeric appeared.

Agreed, it felt a lot like a movie where you could make interjections but never alter the course.
In fact, many people have started referring to DA2 as an "interactive movie" game, and NOT an RPG.

I was kind of hoping you'd get to lure Huon into a trap by letting one of your party elves dress up as Nyssa (Fenris or Merrill). Especially since Nyssa is a tailor, and it would've been hilarious to see Merrill or Fenris react to being bait (Fenris being dressed as a woman notwithstanding)
Damn, now you're making me wish that had actually happened. Forcing Fenris to crossdress would've been hilarious.

I've looked all over, and I cannot find a screen shot of Nyssa. (Huon's wife from the quest "On The Loose".) Does anyone have anything they could link or post?

I wanted to save her too. I offer to help her, and really the only person I helped was an insane, balding elf.
It wouldn't have been so bad if you arrive a bit too late, like you see Huon using his blood magic on Nyssa and you see Hawke running to save her but he kills her. And then Hawke beats himself up over it because he promised her he'd keep her safe. Instead Hawke just stands there and goes "Oh you killed your wife? that's cool. Oh you're gonna try and kill me now? Not gonna happen."
Ah well.... C'est la vie

For the most part, you just get to pick the tone you say it in.

- I love your avatar. makes me laugh every time.
- I'd say more than half the time what Hawke said was what I was going to say. However, the rest was kinda "Well I wouldn't have said that, but it still works."
- I think DA2 is starting to move the DA series in the right direction, but there is still a LOT of work that needs to be done because DA2 didn't fully complete the good things.
