UPDATE: Monday, April 11, 2010.
Hi everyone. I hope you had a good weekend. We're working with Valve right now on dotting the i's and crossing the t's for the Steam rollout. Based on our current estimates, we expect the 1.02 Patch to go live on PC/Mac sometime tomorrow (Tuesday, April 12).
On consoles, the 1.01 title update is progressing smoothly through final certification at Microsoft and Sony. No issues have been found and they're currently projecting release dates of sometime next week - we're working with them to see if we can pull those dates in any further.
Last Friday we discussed some of the universal fixes that we’ve made across all the platforms. Today we’re providing a high-level view of some of the platform-specific fixes that you can expect.
CONSOLES:
- The options menu now includes auto-attack.
- Armor values now adjust correctly when changing shields.
- Choosing a target at close range is now easier.
- Cinematics are no longer distorted on certain standard-definition televisions.
- Hawke no longer gains excessive coin and experience from rapidly and repeatedly completing a single sidequest.
- Various technical changes should improve performance, limit crashes, and address memory-related issues.
PC & MAC:
- Various issues specific to DirectX 11 no longer occur.
- It is now easier to select party members by clicking on their portraits when the level-up arrow is displayed.
- The game now functions correctly across different desktop sizes.
- The video options menu now allows a wider full-screen gamma range.
- Various technical changes should improve performance and limit crashes.
- We’ve improved our crash reporting and our ability to analyze those reports. If you’re still experiencing crashes, we encourage you to play logged in so we can identify and resolve your issues in the future.
This patch should address the bulk of the major issues that people are experiencing. We’re already hard at work on addressing further issues with our next patch and we’ll be setting up some specific threads in the various tech support forums to help capture any major issues that you’re still facing after these patches go live.
this update is much appreciated thanks to bioware for listening to our concerns and taking the time to fix the game bugs the biggest issues for me were the crashes and the buggy performance (the one where if you leave the mouse icon on the skill bar the FPS shoots back up) its a real relief to hear that they've been fixed

Why do we PC users have to wait for Microsoft and Sony to approve the patch? If it's ready, just release it now.
You don't. PC users get their patch sometime tomorrow. Console will wait at least a week or so. Pay attention before you post.

Tell you what, they'll get up at 05:14 and put it live especially for you. Sound reasonable?PaganOak wrote...
the forums are back ! so the patch ? where is it ??
Oh wait, No. They won't. Remember that not everyone lives in the same timezone as you.

If I read correctly Rob Bartel only wrote about a steam release. Will it get released for standalone on tuesday too?
Sounds to me like they are waiting on the Steam patch to be ready before releasing it for PC, so yes - that would include retail/standalone.

So, now we don't need to worry about the DX 11 problems anymore? Do I still need the newest Nvidia beta drivers?
There's only so much optimisation possible with the game's engine. I'll be sticking with the current nVidia beta drivers for sure.

Yes. Considering the previous nVidia drivers are not optimised for DA2 at all. If you go back to them no matter how much optimization BioWare have made to the game engine the performance will still be much worse.Kawazaku wrote...

Last I heard that was caused by using a CPU without SSE2 capability, if true I highly doubt it will be fixed with the patch.SteveGarbage wrote...
Here's praying that the PhysX initializing error will be fixed with this patch!
Any CPUs without SSE2 are well below the minimum system requirements (both of those mentioned support SSE3).
I'm sorry to say if you want to play then it's more than likely it's time for an upgrade.

A lot of DA2 performance issues are nVidia issues, so yes if you want it to run right.
There's no qualitative difference between nVidia release and beta drivers other than WHQL certification, which is pretty meaningless.

As for the other changes, the high majority of them will work on the fly. Some, unfortunately, are already baked in to your saves and will require a fresh playthrough. Sorry /images/forum/emoticons/sad.png
Could we get a heads up as to what we can expect those to be?

That is unfortunate. Would it be possible to get a list of the issues that require a new game for the fix to work after the patch is released? That would certainly ease the decision as to whether people feel they should start from scratch or not(I have several characters and playthoughs; for some I'd rather not start again, for others I wouldn't mind deleting them and start with a fresh character). Thanks.
I agree, that such a list would be extremely appreciated!
AFAIK the romance flags are imported correctly and only interpreted wrongly by DA2, so I was hoping that this would be true for all the import issues. But it seems that this is not necessarily the case.
Will the patch notes include a detailled description of which bugfixes need a fresh start and which will work with an exisiting savegame?
Thanks
M.

I'd look at this thread about the romance bugs. The flags are corrupted by Origins DLCs, but then DA2 doesn't make the best use of the information available after that either. The only way for them to fix it 100% correctly would be to go back and patch Origins, ask you for a full set of endgame saves, or just let you fill it in when you create your character. I'll be interested to see how far they went with this anyway.
I'm guessing this will be one of those "baked in" bugs too, but you never know.

Actually Bioware is in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, two hours behind Montreal.

As far as I undestood it, the main problem seems to be that DA2 not only checks for the romance flags, which seem to be imported correctly, but also for the approval ratings, which are appaently not transferred from Origins to Awakening and so whem importing from an Awakening save, all romances are broken. It seems that by eliminating the approval rating check (which seems redundant) these problem should be fixable. At least I hope so...

Well actually they have offices in both locations as you can see from the Careers page.xoxiin wrote...

Though you're probably right, considering DA2/ME3 are being worked on in Edmonton.
(I think I saw someone involved with the patch post about being in Montreal - which is probably why I got confused).
Either way, the point I was making to PaganOak was that the patch is unlikely to be live for a good few hours yet.

No, it's a bit more complex than this. When you import a DAO save you can look at the values in a savegame editor and the approval AND romance status are both imported. If this were the only issue, DAO saves would work correctly -- but they do not, at least not for Zevran.
The approval rating check also is not redundant. Since the flag imported is "romance active" what the approval is is very important. You can be at -25 neutral and still have the romance active.
