The 1.02 Patch on PC/Mac (1.01 Title Update on X360/PS3) is still in the final certification process with EA, Microsoft, and Sony but is not expected to come out this weekend. Thank you for your continued patience and we look forward to getting this in your hands soon.

The patch includes fixes for over 100 issues. We’ll discuss some of the platform-specific issues in greater detail next week and we’ll release the formal patch notes once the updates are actually ready to download and install but here’s a high level view of some of the core gameplay fixes that everyone will see regardless of platform:

- The effects of various follower talents and item properties are now being properly removed and re-applied when loading and saving.
- Party members who are resurrected during a fight now rejoin combat properly.
- Hawke no longer gains random spells or talents after using the Maker's Sigh potion, then saving and reloading.
- The “Duty” plot will now appear on the Chanter’s Board even if the player accepted all of the board’s quests before installing the Exiled Prince premium content.
- In the “Finders Keepers” plot, if the player leaves Woodrow’s Warehouse before finding the crate, it is now possible to return to the warehouse to complete the quest.
- Merril no longer refers to the aftermath of “A New Path” before the plot has been completed.
- Aveline’s final armor upgrade is now available during the “Favor and Fault” plot.
- Varric is no longer confused about which character Hawke has been romancing.
- Various other gameplay and story-scripting issues no longer appear.

We’ll delve into some of the platform-specific details early next week. In the meantime, a special shout out and thanks to our mighty beta test group who’ve been a big help in confirming how these fixes will behave in the wild.

UPDATE: Monday, April 11, 2011.

Hi everyone. I hope you had a good weekend. We're working with Valve right now on dotting the i's and crossing the t's for the Steam rollout. Based on our current estimates, we expect the 1.02 Patch to go live on PC/Mac sometime tomorrow (Tuesday, April 12).

On consoles, the 1.01 title update is progressing smoothly through final certification at Microsoft and Sony. No issues have been found and they're currently projecting release dates of sometime next week - we're working with them to see if we can pull those dates in any further.

Last Friday we discussed some of the universal fixes that we’ve made across all the platforms. Today we’re providing a high-level view of some of the platform-specific fixes that you can expect.

CONSOLES:
- The options menu now includes auto-attack.
- Armor values now adjust correctly when changing shields.
- Choosing a target at close range is now easier.
- Cinematics are no longer distorted on certain standard-definition televisions.
- Hawke no longer gains excessive coin and experience from rapidly and repeatedly completing a single sidequest.
- Various technical changes should improve performance, limit crashes, and address memory-related issues.

PC & MAC:
- Various issues specific to DirectX 11 no longer occur.
- It is now easier to select party members by clicking on their portraits when the level-up arrow is displayed.
- The game now functions correctly across different desktop sizes.
- The video options menu now allows a wider full-screen gamma range.
- Various technical changes should improve performance and limit crashes.
- We’ve improved our crash reporting and our ability to analyze those reports. If you’re still experiencing crashes, we encourage you to play logged in so we can identify and resolve your issues in the future.

This patch should address the bulk of the major issues that people are experiencing. We’re already hard at work on addressing further issues with our next patch and we’ll be setting up some specific threads in the various tech support forums to help capture any major issues that you’re still facing after these patches go live.

UPDATE: Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Good news - Microsoft has completed their certification process. Title Update 1.01 is scheduled to go live on X360 sometime tomorrow.

In the meantime, I thought I’d take the opportunity to provide a deeper dive on what a couple of the patch notes actually mean.

“- The effects of various follower talents and item properties are now being properly removed and re-applied when loading and saving.”

Yeah, this one covers a lot of ground and had a wide range of symptoms. Some were quite subtle, others… not so much. In general, this covers a wide range of cases where the player’s stats were getting incremented or decremented more than they should. In some cases, such as Hawke’s combat speed, this would continue compounding every time you loaded a certain type of save. This bug, and the corresponding fix, are expected to behave the same on consoles as they do on PC/Mac. It’s important to note that this first patch focuses on preventing the issue from recurring or getting worse. For the next patch, we’re looking deeper into how to fully reverse the issue and restore normalcy in save games where the error has already occurred.

“- Various technical changes should improve performance, limit crashes, and address memory-related issues.”

On the X360 in particular, some players were experiencing issues such as missing textures or “unable to load area” messages, especially if they’d been playing the game for a long time in one sitting. Similar issues were occurring on the other platforms but with less frequency. Memory and performance issues are complex beasts, of course, and we don’t want to say that we’ve eliminated these issues altogether but the patch does provide a lot of improvements and optimizations that will improve players' experience in that regard and make those issues significantly less prevalent than they are currently.

We look forward to getting Title Update 1.01 into your hands tomorrow.

Can't wait to hear the rest of the fixes. I mean 100 fixes is a lot and here you mentioned 9-ish.

Next time you release a game in this condition, would you mind having the word "Beta" printed clearly on the box?

Nice to see a few specifics... sounds like there's a good chance it will hit next week.

I see the getting random spells and talents with Maker's Sigh is fixed... what about how it turns passive abilities into negative modifiers instead of positive?

How about telling us if you decided to include a trigger to "who needs rescuing", seriously, I didn't have too many bugs in my game, but this one was gamebreaking to me at least, personally I like to finish quests that were in the game I purchased

Thank you for keeping us updated, as I know you didn't have to. I'm happy to hear that all the major bugs I've been experiencing will be corrected in this patch. Thanks again.

Thanks for the update. I'm not sure if you guys can clarify this just yet, but are the Maker's Sigh fix and followers' effects fix retroactive, fixing saves already messed up by them?

Thank you very much for this information. It's nice to hear a little something every now and then. I have my fingers crossed that the issue with Merrill's Act 2 quest completing itself will also be resolved.

I'm a touch confused about the platform-specific thing... I'm tired at the moment so forgive me if this is a dumb question: is it possible that some of the issues will only be resolvable on the one platform? i.e. could the PC version contain fixes that the xbox/ps3 ones won't? *angst*

I hope that there arent platform specific fixes. It seems like they've put a lot of work into this patch, which I'm happy to see, but if I have to wait another few weeks (or heaven forbid another month) to get some core gameplay glitches fixed I wont be as happy.

And about the Beta comment, I whole heartidly agree. I would not have minded AT ALL if the game had been released in April. An easter release would have been better than a BETA version of this game. This was clearly a case of something being pushed out when it wasn't ready. Please BioWare; take your time. If it takes you 4 years to make DA3 I will wait for it. I promise. Just please no more cluster****s like this.

Actually- all of you have been lead testers it seems, as the PATCH ITSELF is being tested for release! So, what's the wages earned for y'all, ya think? Including frustration, emotional distress, desire to burn the disc (literally) and make the BioWare team the real darkspawn?

:bandit:

OMG...what if the patch destroys my game??? I'm never going to log in again! LOL!!!!!!

I posted a topic several hours ago, but got no response. I hope it's not against the rules to re-post it on this thread....
Here it is:

" I've just started playing DA2 and I've noticed that my total sum of gold never seems to go up when I loot corpses or chests. Even if I pick up 12 gold or more my total never goes up.

Anyone know what's going on or had the same problem?

I'd really like some help with this issue because it's frustrating to not gain any gold except from quest rewards and selling items."

Holy sh*t. I have yet to see that one...I hope it's remedied. I still want a recall of the game- completely. Then be able to use receipts/UPC labels- etc. to get the FINISHED GAME. This release was like a Ford Pinto. Can you imagine a FIX bigger than a major DLC release??? This would have been the most professional thing to do.

So I take it that next weekend is the soonest we can hope to expect the patch.

Oh, and the first DLC for this game should be free because of all this crap Bioware. Just letting you know.

Awesome to hear that there will be a patch soon; I'm sure it will improve the user experience (and perceptions) greatly!

In the meantime, I've been replaying DAO in anticipation of the updates. By the next time I play DA2, I'm crossing my fingers for a less buggy experience. :)

Sounds good so far, hopefully the compatibility issues with SDTVs (on consoles) gets fixed as well (as discussed here).

Yeah, what a great thing to give us. Oh wait, most of us already own ME2, and on top of that it is only for PC gamers and does nothing for console gamers.

Now I releaize it has become industry standard to release buggy games and patch later, but some gamers don't get the patched because they can't afford interenet access. Also, if I was still in the military where interenet access isn't always something you can get, especially in the middle of the ocean, I would be extremely upset right now for being sold an incomplete product.

So, yes I am glad they are finally coming out with a patch. No, I am not going to give them praise for fixing the game a month after release. No, I am not going to be grateful for them passing out free copies of a game I can go buy used for less than most DLC.
