Tying Up Loose Ends and Storylines

If Bioware only planned to do a trilogy of DA games, how do you suppose they will be able to finish all the storylines started in DA:O , Awakenings and DA2 , and tie up all loose ends in just one game?  I don't think it is possible.

In DA:O the Grey Wardens and the Darkspawn were a big storyline that continued into Awakenings, but only left more questions as to what really happened or what will happen. The Darkspawn were not eradicated after the death of the Archdemon, but rather, they divided into two distinct factions of Darkspawn. The new group can now talk and have a higher level of intelligence, and no longer need to be led by a Archdemon in order to war upon those that live above-ground. The Darkspawn were not even a big concern in DA2, yet they are still a big threat to Thedas. Also, the Wardens seem to be evolving into something more than mere soldiers and protectors from blights. In Awakenings the Warden-Commander becomes more like a Viscount as The Warden rules over the nobility and common people from Vigils Keep. In DA2 the wardens show up in both Kirkwall and in the deeproads traveled by Hawk, and each time they allude to something very big that is brewing somewhere in Thedas, but we don't know what... more loose ends.

In DA:O  ( at least almost all of my versions) Morrigan sleeps with Alistair and conceives a child with the spirit/soul of an Old God. In Witch Hunt she then dissapears through an Eluvian Mirror. That seems like a big storyline that should have far reaching effects. Morrigan is spoken about almost in passing by Flemeth in DA2, but no new information is given. And what about Flemeth? No questions have ever been aswered about her. What or who is she really? Why does her path always intersect with the various Champions and wardens? What is her ultimate goal? How does she effect the future of Thedas? Too many loose ends with Flemeth and Morrigan.

Does Alistair find out who is mother really was and the true story behind his birth? And that he is actually part Elf?
What happened to Sten? Will he return with the Qunari when they invade Thedas and try to convert everyone ('cause you just know that's the real reason behind the Qunari ending up in Kirkwall- spies!)?  The mages versus the Chantry versus the Templars versus the circles storyline has to be resolved... and now you have the Seekers involved in everything.  The Warden is missing as well as the Champion of Kirwall?  More unaswered questions... more loose ends... How will it all end?

What storylines and loose ends do you need to see finished and tied together?  What questions must be answered?  Should the players decide the endings based upon the choices that have been made or will be made? Or will the writers decide all the final endings and just give the illusion that our Wardens and our Champions really make a difference in the outcomes....?

If I recall David Gaider said that Fiona's kid is not Alistair. He's too young for that to have happened. I doubt the Qunari would invade all of Thedas. The years lining up would have been off. Making Alistair like up to 17-18 when you met him and he's older. So supposedly it was good to be the King.

Sweet Maker that'd be bad. There's jsut too many threads going on to be wrapped up in just one thread. There's the OGB for those who did that ending. Flemeth and Morrigan. The Grey Wardens and the Darkspawn. I could go on, but really.. If there were just three games, this third one would be a complete cluster****.

Also about Fiona and Alistair, I don't think David ever confirmed or denied. The most he said was that the timeline for the books and the game were slightly off due to an editing mistake. I've always thought there's a third Maricspawn out there, if only so no matter what happened to Alistair in Origins that there'd be a Theirin in a future game.

brb lol'ing forever.

Anyhow, I highly doubt there will be just one more Dragon Age game. I'm sure there will be more. There are endless stories they can tell from so many aspects of the universe.

Though, I do think we're going to get fairly decent DLC in the meantime.

It really makes me wish they made KOTOR in the age of  DLC. (And not just that extra planet shop. I mean real DLC)

Good sir, I enjoy what you imply.

I would imagine people think that because most of the big game or movie series now days seem to come in threes.

At no point has BioWare called DA a trilogy.

That said, I don't believe it's possible (or desirable) to tie up every storyline and loose end in one game. Especially when you seem to be calling a 'loose end' every question you have about the game.

Alistiar's mother, for example, means nothing to the overall story. (That we know of) Maybe she's Fiona. Maybe it was just one of the Arl's servants. It might be nice to know but it's not relevant to any plot line.

That would be correct.

I have read articles that called Dragon Age a trilogy. Maybe she stumbled on one and didn't realize it was wrong.

All I really want is a game that lets you play as Darkspawn properly, not for 2 hours only like Darkspawn Chronicles.
In the end one could get rid of all loose ends once Blight swallows everything.

Not to mention that the human servant who Alistair thought was his mother died giving birth to another baby? Confirmed by the daughter she spit out as well. The one that resented him in Origins. You can then assume that another baby was murdered to keep the Fiona lie? Probably not.

Will also point out. Attempting to tie up all "loose ends" isn't even necessary. Reason being Thedas will go on no matter what. It's an on going world with many races and civilizations. We haven't even seen them all. You can't expect the 3rd game to tie it all up so the world could be at peace. That is not the way of Thedas so far.

All i know is, if its not written in to the game, that my super happy ending poking Morrigan whilst living in white picket fenced house (you know the kind), out in my back garden on a hammock hanging between two fine oak trees, i'm going to be very unhappy.

I've noticed people doing this as well and was wondering if it was true, wouldn't surprise me if people thought it was a trilogy because of the Mass Effect series.

I have a feeling that there are bigger plans for the DA franchise than just 3 rpg style games. It is a nice setting and development of races and conflicts to create some kind of war game or civ game. Not sure if that would ever come about but they are slowly building up enough lore and such to make it perhaps viable.

Well it more than obvious whith that lackluster ending of Dragon Age 2 , that you put so many things that need to be answered but not even give a single hint IN THE GAME for a possible answer , I mean im still angered that all that time I put to the game ( a 137 hours) to have a cliffhanger ending , sheesh , also you keep adding stuff to the stories only to force us buy more things , I love the setting you didnt need to rely on such low level tactics to make me buy more things Dragon Age , Im sorry for this rant but arggghhhh it makes me mad

Personally I think it's more likely to get an MMO than Mass Effect. But then, the fantasy MMO market is so crowded that might make them wary of that. A shame, because while I want single player DA RPG's for, like, forever I would still love to play around in an MMO version of Thedas if it went alongside them.

Other than that a RTS or Civ style game would have amazing potential.

I don't think Bioware ever implied they only intended to do 3 Dragon Age games. My guess is they want to keep the DA universe alive and kicking for as long as we buy the games. And I'm totally fine with that, looking forward to it even.

a) Wanting to know what happens next is not a "cliffhanger".

B) I recognize that you mean you wanted more closure. Personally I don't think that's what endings are all about, but I get that you wanted it.

c) Thank you for being so personally involved so as to rant. I'll take flaily rants over apathy any day. :)

I think it's just way too many things/stories on the "awaiting closure" list now... Warden, Morrigan, old god baby, Flemeth, eluvian, Harvester outbreak, Black City, Darkspawn, Champion, Leliana... Seriously, just finish one of all those stories already. Otherwise it's like reading Lovecraft's books - all tension and no real resolution, makes me wanna bite my fingers off.

I know I sound ungratefull , but really its been a long time (well since Mass Effect 2) that I was so invested in a game , heck I even got to the no sleep/ realize it is now morning gaming mode , its just that I totally dislike this trend of no closures to games , even more in a rpg that got my interest this high , I loved Hawke , I loved Merryl , Aveline , even i like that back stabbing Isabella , my love Leliana is here ,  I wanted to know more of their destinies I was expecting answers that the seeker wanted , I wanted to know more  at the end of this awesome trip but ....:crying:

Think of it like this. There was closure to a degree for a part of Hawke's past. Their life in Kirkwall had ended. Granted Hawke played a part in the circumstances that forced them to flee the City of Chains it was not directly in their power to stop it. That part of their life is closed. Now they have disappeared 3 years after leaving Kirkwall. We will have to wait and see what comes next.
