I just disconnect the modem, start the game, load the saved game, then reconnect the modem. Seems to work just fine.

Indeed.  IF your DLC was authorized before, then thwating the game's attempt to re-authorize *should* work.  This will still be a problem, however, for those who purchased the game this weekend and are doing their first authorization.

Like it's not enough already that I need to stick the damn dvd into drive every time I play, now this bullcrap too. Can only play offline, nothing else helps.
And how about changing the need to use dvd each time you play ME2 and DA:O, it's really getting old and DA2 manages to do that just fine.

This Friday officially sucks.

Managed to get through a long, crappy day at work and was hoping to take out my frustration on some darkspawn - and finally finish the game.

FML. Looks like alcohol is my only way out :)

I might be doing something wrong but logging off, cutting my internet connection then restarting the game does nothing for me. The DLC still says unauthorized. Is there a particular trick to this method that I'm missing?
And when (if?) the game starts working again, should I always stay logged out once tDLC becomes authorized again?

I should add that I'm playing on Mac version and i 've had game for about 4 months with no problems to DLC and zero mods or any hacking of any files.

Also it seems that since I have migrated the folders from my old computer to my new one, I am also envountering the same issue, which is strange since I have already played the game before for about 30 hours.

Strangely, I used to automatically login, now I'm not and it won't even allow me to set it to that. And changing the addins.xml works fine, as long as I don't want any of the DLC or the associated equipments/other rewards. I've tried a handful of fixes, and it seems to me that if you already turned it on and the game de-authorized you're DLC, you're screwed, end of story. Being logged off or even disconnected from the internet isn't helping me; it's still unauthorized. And I've been playing it for days, no problem, so I'm pretty sure it's nothing I did.

So good luck, everyone else, but I wouldn't hold my breath. And Rean, how did you turn off the intro movies? I don't see an option anywhere in the launcher, but it's not unusual for me to overlook what's staring me in the face.

I have not changed a thing in the files (unless you count using mods in which case I'm going to have to call BS) and I'm still having issues tonight.

Why would I BS about this? What's my gain? I just resumed my last save (which happens to be Golems, so it's a DLC) and it worked perfectly. Why? 'cos my DLC is correctly installed and my system is configured correctly to work with DA. There's no magic involved, Bio did not make it so that you can't play the game when their servers are out (which is patently stupid and Bioware aren't that stupid). You can play as long as you log out, if your DLC is correctly installed. You only need to be online to authorise DLC and update characters/acheivements, non of which is required to run the game.

So basically what your're saying is that you were already logged out when this issue happened and thus it never actually had any impact on you, right?

Okay, then try logging in now. Wait until your DLC has been marked unauthorized and THEN try getting your game working again. If you manage that by simply logging out once more then you're more than welcome to come back here and call the rest us simpletons. If not, then consider it a lesson in "the ability to see a problem from different perspectives". ;)

*EDIT*
I should mention at this point that I just tried metatheurgist's suggestion and when I log out in the game menu all the unauthorized labels on the DLCs disappear and I can load my game. Considering my current save game consist of my dual wielding rogue using Duncan's sword in one hand, Maric's sword in the other, wears the Battledress of the Provocateur and the Helm of Hornleath as well as having Shale in my party and Morigan wearing the Vestments of the Seer ... if the DLCs didn't work the party should be buck naked and one short.

I can't say for certain if there are any sideeffects to continue playing an otherwise logged in game as logged out, but for now it seems that metatheurgist was correct. (I'll leave my original comment so everyone can see I was wrong )

I have the same problems regarding the DLC, unfortunately i reinstalled the game today to add the german language pack to it. So now my DLC stuff (and all the other promo stuff of the collectors edition isn't available anymore, the list of the available DLC's is empty and the update of this page doesn't seems to work anymore. Thats pretty frustrating that the update servers seems not to run anymore, that means that i cant play the game till they have fixed this problem? Ahhh and if this would'nt be enough, i bought some bio-ware points to get the latest DLC packages. That means nothing to play this weekend. :-( Right? But ok at least i think i found the cause of this problem.

Sry for my bad english but i hope you are able to understand the meaning of my post. :)

New solution:

Once this issue is resolved, and all my -paid and registered- content is properly authorized, I think I will refrain from logging into my EA account in the game from now on. Since there won't be any future DLC for Origins, and I have no interest in comparing Achievements or whatever, it seems a lot more trouble than it's worth to play while logged in.

Aww, this fondly reminds me on the times when I had to reinstall the game and couldn't get the DLC's to work for the sake of my life. Makes me warm and fuzzy inside with RAAAAGEEE. Now it is even worse. I can't load a single save-game without the game telling me it needs the DLC's for it that are suddenly UNAUTHORIZED again.

Image IPB

EEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAA, I can't even play my SINGLE player game now, that I have legally PAID for? WTF? *rage*

I'll try to start the game without internet connection once more and hope that helps (since my DLC were authorized before). I'm sure the trainwreck DA2 works just fine. But I want to play the GOOD DRAGON AGE GAME, you know? *argh*

*Disclaimer: This was writen at 5am, not having slept much and with a slight headache. It's meant to make you chuckle, but then again I was sleep-drunk*

My sad tale: Once upon a time, I acquired the sequel to a well renown Roleplaying game, and thought, "Oh, you must play, and finish the first part before you start this one". And so I did, and alas, I was overjoyed by how wonderful the plot, and characters were! Sure, there was a slightly annoying stereotype of religion being good, and lack of it being bad. Being an "positive" atheist myself that was slightly annoying. But nothing that couldn't be fixed by hardening Leliana, and just keeping Morrigan in camp (Yes, it was slightly disappointing to have the atheist look unfavorably at the good deeds, since being one myself I am a goody-two-shoes. But alas, other than that, the plot was wonderful, and the openness in the character's relationship, MARVELOUS; The writing, flawless, and the overall deliverance, enough to make you fall in love, over and over. It's difficult to dislike any character - good or bad - as they are so well written.
I had become an addict, and mind you, it was not something that happened often with Single Player games for me... but Dragon Age accomplished it. Because of this, sometime earlier today I was contemplating on downloading one or two DLCs, when I suddenly thought: "Redundant Cookie, just get the Ultimate Version, you want EVERYTHING!", so eagerly I backed up my character folder, and my beautifying mods and then proceeded to uninstall the game and to purchase the Ultimate Edition!

But egads! To my bitter, bitter unfortunate surprise... their servers are down. I cannot play my newly purchased Ultimate Edition, and not even my lonely DA:O with the few DLCs I had. Is this, my dear beloved Bioware, the way an overjoyed, faithful, admirer and follower of your divinely inspired masterpieces must be treated, after neglecting budgetary precautions to make yet another monetary sacrifice to your artistic cause? Oh... sadness swallow me whole! Please servers return soon, so I can wake up once more in Ferelden, the time I can spare on leisure time is very limited!

PS: And while I'm wasting all of our times here with this sillyness, I might as well make the post useful. I have a question for those who may know: I already had Origins (Vanilla) plus 3 DLCs. Can I just add the Ultimate package (which includes Origins again) to my account in order to keep my Achievements and whatever I had saved to my account? - This is my second run, and I definitely won't restart for the sake of having to get achievements again under the Ultimate edition. Thank you :D

PS2: I don't suppose anyone knows why none of my characters has ever saved to my account profile? - The games are all registered...

PS3: Sorry if my post seems slightly out of topic. The main reason for me being here is the server issue, and hoping they get back up soon, so that when I wake up in a few hours I am greeted by the pleasant surprise I can play the game that I just purchased.

I am starting to think BioWare hates their followers. First they give up a new game they should have finished before they released it and now we can't play Origins. It is a sad day and I pray somewhere Bioware is going to offer us a "boon" for the patience we are needing since the release of DA2. Hope they are working hard on getting this issue resolved.

The only difference between the collector's, ultimate, and normal edition is the packaging and the free content you got. All the software works exactly the same way. It would cost them time and effort to change it to work differently with each edition. It would introduce new bugs. Why would they do that? Because they don't get enough complaints on the Tech Boards? Because they want to cut the proft they make from selling multiple copies of the same game to the same people?

The difference between Ultimate, Collector's, and normal edition is moot, really.

The fact is, Dragon Age DLC requires online verification every time you log into your online account through the game, checking it against the entitlements registered to that account. Once your DLC is verified for your account, it is Authorized. You can then access the DLC while logged on, or log off and still access it. Every time you log onto your account, though, it performs the same verification check, even though it doesn't need to.

So, if you log on and the servers are down (or whatever the reason is), the game cannot verify your Authorization, and thus marks all your DLC as Unauthorized, voiding your previous Authorization.

So, yes, Bioware did, in fact, make a single-player game with addons that you cannot play when their servers are down, providing you log on through the game during the time period in question.

I have tested it and could play my Ultimate-edition without problems WHEN I had the internet disconnected. This requires however that the DLC had been authorized once, so this won't help people who had to reinstall the game or had newly bought it.

The DRM is teh suck with Origins. Seriously. As much the game DA2 itself bores me to tears...the DRM is handled better there.

Because this myth just needs to die...

Guess what I just did. I started DA while logged out with everything authorised. Then I logged in just to see everything unauthorise. Then I logged out again and all DLC was authorised again and I could load my save. Why? Because if your DLC is properly installed and authorised you can always play offline.

1000 years from now when EA doesn't even exist anymore and my computer won't even understand whatever IP protocol passes for the internet - an archeologist wil be able to dig up my machine start up the game and continue playing my game of DA. And there are no differences between any editions - it all works the same.
