**THE GREAT OUTAGE OF 2011** (or, "why is my DLC is STILL not working, just like it wasn't all weekend long?!")

I will never buy an online DRM piece of sh** again. I don't care how good the reviews are. If I can't even play the game, what does it matter if it's GOTY material.

If you choose to log in, then you run the risk of not having your DLC properly authorize. Yes, many times we've seen that this is because a user's PC is not running properly, causing the background services not to load correctly. But it also happens, as we've seen this weekend, when something goes wrong on the company's end.
You missed the post where I stated that I did deliberately logged in just to unauthorise my DLC. When I tried to start a game afterwards it failed with the usual "Can't access content" message. Then I logged out and it all worked again. No I don't have some magical edition of DA that works offline.grYnnAn wrote...
If it was a myth, sure.
Just talked to support about the possibility to play DAO UE offline, the answer was a simple; No
EA support like all companies that provide low-level support is staffed by people paid a minimum wage to follow the same script for all problems. I've seen and corrected the bad advice given out by them on this board several times. I dunno why but most companies don't consider providing highly paid compentent support staff that actually know what they're talking about a priority. It's probably cheaper just to give you bad advice until you give up from frustration.
Or maybe I just do have a magical edition of the game. Guess I'll just go and do the impossible and play DA offline with all my DLC now.
Damn... the condescension in your posts borders on abuse. Obviously this sudden outcry of issues is the result of hundreds or thousands of people's idiocy and couldn't have anything at all to do with the fact something's gone wrong. I'd love it if the DLC I've spent over 400 trouble free hours playing worked simply by logging out after it's been unauthorized, but it doesn't. I can't help but wonder exactly from where your incredible smugness stems...

If however you have followed some of the instructions provided by support and deleted this file or if you have content that you recently purchased and has never been authorized, playing 'logged out' will not help you.

Thanks for any help-
I just want to clarify: I installed ultimate 3 days ago, and was finally able to devote some time tonight. Long story short, spent my whole night reading about this. I can play with all DLCs working offline. Not online. The only difference I've read is online I can post caps and they can check my functioning? I just want to make sure I lose absolutely nothing (even socially) from gameplay by playing offline.
You should be able to play just fine provided you stay offline for now. Your DLC must have been authorized prior to the current issue occuring.
When you read here that the issue has been resolved it should be safe to log in again, and any progress you have made, achievements unlocked, etc should then sync with the server. It would be a good idea to make a copy of Profile.dap to keep somewhere safe in case this happens again. With an authorized Profile.dap file you will always be able to play offline.

Just "bought" the content online yesterday, and thought there was something wrong with the download, so I bought the DVD version today and installed fresh after wiping my HD clean of EA and DAO files.
So all of my DLC content is just new enought never to have been properly activated. I've tried all the fixes in the dozen or so threads posted on this topic over the last year or so. Regardless, I can't play online or offline unless I bypass all of the DLC content that I paid for.

From what I've read so far, the experiences of others, it seems that the authentication server(s) is down. Why do these bloody things always happen in the weekends?
Now I cannot play a single player game because there are some technical issues with authorization, how great is that?
If this shows anything, it is that you, EA and BioWare, should get rid of these draconian DRM measures for Dragon Age: Origins. Please consider making an update that removes the authentication so that it more resembles the DLC of Mass Effect 2, where you log in on the social hub, download it and install it. That's it, it shouldn't be more than that, you know it's the right thing to do. And piracy? Yes there will always be piracy, but this way you are pushing your honest customers away from you, do you really want that?
And while we're at it, please bring out one last update as well for the myriad of bugs that are still in Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. Some are even game breaking bugs that you never bothered to fix anymore.
BioWare, I always held you in high regards, but lately my faith in you has faded away slowly. Show us once again that you are still one of the best developing houses out there.

Then I found this thread on the servers being down. I wonder why this information was not availabele to the support staff yesterday, when chatting with EA. It could have saved me a lot of time if the support staff had just told me to wait it out in stead of reinstallling the game.
So thank you a lot, you helpful players, who communicate such vital information on these forums :-).

It would be quite nice to get a definitive 'the servers are down' message from someone Official. It would have saved me the considerable arse-ache I've gone through this morning in trying to get my game working. If it's THEM then it's just a case of waiting after all.
I did contact support yesterday and after phrasing things a few different ways finally got the rep to acknowledge that it was a known issue their "engineers" were working on. I then asked if there was any sort of "Official" announcement forthcoming and the answer was "No"...I then asked if there was any way for players to check the server status and was told that was not an area "available to players."
I would not expect to hear anything in the way of "Official" announcements about this. I also would not expect to hear any "Official" word when the servers come back up & certainly would not expect that we'll be getting any type of Apology for the lack of communication.
I did recieve a $20 (USD) coupon for "a Future Purchase" from the EA store, so if you have 45 minutes to spend contacting support there is at least that.
I made a very clear point to them in their follow-up survey that server problems are unavoidable, but lack of communication was unforgivable.

But as I say, I wouldn't have minded quite so much if I hadn't just spent 5 hours of my life, re-installing my game, re-downloading all my DLC, re-downloading all my player mods to make sure they were up-to-date and clean and then when that didn't work, going through all the bloody fixes on the various threads on this forum. I hasten to add that I'm VERY grateful to all the people who have made the effort to discover and post these fixes, it's just they weren't what I needed.
A simple announcement on BSN yesterday would have been EXTREMELY helpful!!
But at least I filed a complaint and made a point. But yet again, you lucky North American types get better customer service than us!
I'm quite cross now because of the total waste of time I've had this morning - and I didn't get consolation presents. >:[

@ Deathwurm - Well I didn't get any vouchers, points or anything. I got bored platitudes. "I really understand how you must feel." "You make a very valid point." "I'm sorry you feel this way." However, the guy I spoke to 'Michael' said they thought the problem would be sorted in 24 hours but he wasn't aware of any Official announcement being forwarded.

I was actually quite surprised at the Coupon myself...don't know what the heck I'll use it on unless you can buy Bioware points through the store because I haven't gotten "Arrival" for ME2 yet (and I'm not about to jump into more DLC right now...lol) I know I contacted support at around 7:30 pm EDT and waited about 40 minutes to "chat" with someone...I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
On an unrelated note: it's not my place to do it (a Moderator should) but folks need to start looking at the Titles of other peoples Posts...there are now almost 2 pages of Threads on this Topic and most of them have something about DLC in their title...good information is getting lost.

One weird bug I haven't seen mentioned is that after I reinstalled my game and installed the patch, I was asked to input my EA ID/BioWare Social Network thingy, and it told me there was an error and I had to reinstall the game. I did this (for the 2nd time today) and this time decided not to install the patch, and the verification window did not show up. Does anyone know if this is related to the servers being down, or is this a problem that's happened before?

Also, I can confirm that if your DLCs WERE authorized and BECAME unauthorized, all you have to do is to log out, untick the 'automatically log in' and restart the game to be able to play with all the DLCs.
Yep. But I was stupid enough to buy the Ultimate Edition on Friday, which required an Authorization for each DLC. Heh, punished for spending money on them.

Hmm, just heard this was happening and decided to start up the game to see if it would happen to me too. Sure enough, all my DLC showed up as unauthorized. Interestingly though, if I logged out without loading a game, the unauthorized part disappeared from my installed DLC. I don't know if this will work if you already tried to load or start a game, and I'm sure it won't work if you just installed, but it's probably a good method for anyone who's just discovering this problem and really wants to play.
Worked for me. My DLC had been previously authorized before this issue, logged out and problem was fixed.
